invision has a add on that can be used as a classified and seems to be reported to work well / read more here or flynax has a plugin that you can bridge phb or VB more here both have free trials or you can probably pick up some free scripts.

Sure, all you need is WordPress, set up a classifieds theme, or plugin on a decent theme, then install bbPress as your forum, have your navigation in the menu bar - simple

This is probably a good way to go. Set up Wordpress with a classifieds theme. Then just install forum software in the yoursite.com/forum directory.

I think tryinhere has it. I remember years ago looking at classifieds for VB. They used to exist and I presume still do.

You can do this with wordpress. But it also depends on your niche. Forums don't work unless you have a topic/niche that people are highly opinionated and care deeply about. You must stir up those discussions, or people won't care to be a member of the forum.

You have to build (and maintain) a forum one person at a time and that takes a long time. Most people are fiercely loyal to their favorite forum and won't just jump ship onto a brand new forum where there's no one to talk to.

This could be why very well established forum keep getting bigger and the new one easily go out of business.

I probably should have mentioned that I don't like wordpress, never have, especially their bbpress and classifieds options.
