Just introducting myself

I am brand new to this forum and wanted to start by saying hi to everyone. Also, I am joining to learn more about how to market my business. I have an online insurance agency in Michigan and am struggling to generate home and auto insurance leads. I have a website that I have been working on for about 1 1/2 years on and off. I would love some excellent advice if anyone wants to help. I appreciate any advice. I don't have a budget, so I need to market with hard work and for free.

    Hi Jayson !

I am assuming you are targeting the local market with your website. Have you listed yourself at the local business center of google and the local search for yahoo ? This may yield good results considering the niche you are addressing.

I am also assuming that you are generating leads online and servicing them off-line. If that is the case, you would obviously need to find the cost of generating a lead and the value of a lead and aim at reducing the cost and maximising value of a lead. If your cost < value, you are on your way. ;-)

    Best Regards

    Jay

Hi Jason, welcome aboard; I hope your insurance brokerage is a big hit.

I have been involved in IM for about two years but offline marketing for over 30 so I have advice based on both. I have learned that the best way to entice clients or customers is to offer them something of value. For example one of my fields is real estate brokerage and earlier in my career I decided to offer a free newsletter to households packed with hard hitting real estate information that was specific to the neighborhoods I targeted. This newsletter differed form the boring generic crap my competitors put out because I included actionable information and valuable advice. This newsletter, which went out to over 2,500 homes at its peak, was so successful that I had to cut back on the mailings because of the volume of calls it was generating (I didn't have adequate systems in place at the time to handle the volume).

You are in a great field because insurance is an esoteric topic to most of us and we need help understanding it. Focus on becoming the insurance guru for your area. I would do this by first off filling your website with valuable, actionable insurance tips and information. Explain in layman's terms different types of insurance and why people need it. Describe typical insurance mistakes people tend to make and how to avoid them. Be generous with your information, I found that the more information I freely gave away, the more people sought me out to work with me.

Specifically, I would start writing articles on insurance issues to submit to the article directories such as EzineArticles. I would then link those articles to my website or even better link them to a new insurance blog where you will try to build readership and a following. You could even have one blog for auto insurance and a separate blog for home insurance. The blog will then link to your website.

Good luck Jason, I hope this helps. I believe your business has tremendous potential in tapping the power of the net.

    Hi Jayson,

Welcome to the WF... I am sure you will find great advice and tips on all you need to know to increase your marketing results.

With effort and proper strategies you can generate some immense traffic to your sites even with no budget... This is how most of us started out with little or no budget to speak of utilizing the Web 2.0 sites to offer some free traffic.

I would suggest reading up on some article writing techniques and SEO strategies found in the archives... (just do a search in the top)

Good luck in your marketing success.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I have been thinking about starting a blog, so maybe I will do that. Here is a simple question as well. My website is pulling up for a term that is extremely valuable for me in yahoo and msn. aaa michigan insurance. I represent them and was generating leads off this at one time. My question is this: why does my description read so horrible and all the others read in sentence format? I have a description and title in the meta tags, but maybe that has nothing to do with it. my website is shop4insurance.org. I would love any help with this as well. I think this would get me off to a good start allready and get me some click through.

Another quicky.. I pull up on yahoo # 6 for michigan insurance quotes, #1 for michigan auto insurance quote, and #2 for michigan auto insurance quotes. I get absolutely no traffic at all from this. I would think these keywords would be perfect for me being a michigan insurance agent. Am I nuts here??
