How Long Until I Make My First Sale?

Hey guys,

Quick question... every time someone joins my team they ask me 'How long till I make money?'

Now, I personally do not think that there is an answer to this question because every individual's work ethic varies but I do like to mention that the harder they work and the faster they fail and learn from their own failures, the faster they will see results...

However, no matter how much I seem to motivate them I find that they quit working hard to achieve their dreams simply because they do not see results within 30 days.

I am trying to take a different approach to this in order to result in having more down-lines putting in work and quitting so easily because I want to change more people's lives and I want to have more recurring commissions...

Here is what I have in mind... I thought it would be great to get on a Skype call the minute they join my team and introduce who I am and put together a plan of attack...

After a week or 2 follow up with them with a more in depth coaching call and send them a couple of videos that help them understand the big picture (i.e. they need an end goal in mind and plan), and what to focus on to get results...

Now, my idea might not be the best so if you have any suggestions on how to retain people please let me know... would love to hear them

I don't think it matters too much about delivery at this stage: email, on-page, Skype, or turning up in a Clown outfit and singing. Just give the goods. Deliver it however you like. Communicate the system perfectly, whether using any of the above methods, and if you can do that well, if indeed you can actually get quick results yourself, then your team will get quick results and everyone's happy; problem solved.

I think your idea of an introduction and extra coaching sounds like a good idea.

Achieving their dreams in 30 days? Perhaps they need to learn about how persistence and not giving up early on is the key to success, that and the fact that failure is a part of life and needs to be embraced.

They need to focus less on "how long till they make money" and look at the bigger picture as you say. I suppose it's all down to how you are going to change the mindset of the newbies on your team, give them clear goals and targets to work towards and make sure they are aware from the start that it's not a way to get rich quick!

People always seem to want a quick buck with the least amount of effort. Of course, reality is, building anything that's going to have a strong foundation that lasts is going to take good hard work and lots of patience. So, yes, I think you're on the right track...try to communicate, encourage and work with your team. People often need a lot of hand-holding and encouragement initially. There will still be those who are lazy and will fizzle out, but you'll get a small percentage who are willing to do what it takes to get success if they get the help they need.

What you're experiencing is real-life evidence of the reason why so many people fail at Internet marketing. Most people don't have what it takes to motivate themselves long enough and hard enough in order to see success so they give up before they have given it a fair trial.

My suggestion, and know this is different than you'll hear from anyone else, would be to focus on signing up people who have been successful in other similar ventures. You want to find people who can motivate themselves and who have done similar things to what you're asking already.

Focus on those people that have already shown they have what it takes to make money with this business model.

You will soon find out that it's not worth the effort to try to teach new comers to this game - to try to motivate them to sell.

Sign up as many as you can specifically looking for those who can be successful - those that can do it without much help from you. Just let the others weed themselves out. A few might make it and that's fine. Help them if they ask for it. But focus on the already proven successful candidates.

I'm not in the MMO niche and don't ever plan to be. But if I was, I'd be sure to follow this great advice.

Probably 90 - 95% of people fail in IM. Yes, with a great coach you might be able to make the success rate a little better, but the fact is that some people don't have the skills to succeed, the talent to succeed or the motivation to succeed. So why waste your time on them? For a quick buck? If so, that seems short sighted.

I'd rather have fewer -- but better -- clients. Not only will they last longer in the business (thus increasing your revenue as you're able to build upon a long-term relationship), but their success will be your success. If you could show that 50% instead of 5% of the people you coach go on to succeed, that would be huge (and you'd probably be able to raise your fees as a consequence). But just as importantly -- if not more importantly -- you'd be doing a world of good to both the people you worked with and the people you didn't work with. The people you worked with would know that they already had a leg up on many others and would likely be more motivated. The people you didn't work with wouldn't waste their time or money.

Top universities like Harvard have outstanding graduates only partly because their great universities -- but a large part of their graduates' success is due to the fact that the people who are selected to get into top institutions are smart, motivated and successful before they even set foot on campus. If I were coaching that would be something I'd try to emulate too.

This is a great suggestion! It really works like recruitment (I was in HR) however there are people that do want success and provided their thinking patterns can be adjusted, I think it's okay to give them a go.

I personally market in a way to target my ideal customer but you still end up with a lazy bunch, but again, I like this suggestion

I'm not very much into network marketing, however I'll say this. If you lead others will follow, your job is to help your "team" in the best of your ability if they don't take action so what? One less action person for hand holding.

Someones people need you to take them by the hand and show them how to crawl like a baby before they can walk like an adult. ( Analogy probably bad )

Your idea for videos is great I use them in my courses, tutorials, etc... It is the next best thing to being there with that particular person watching over their shoulder and showing them how everything is done.

Sometimes PEOPLE need that extra motivation as well and if your videos are good they can be that motivation that your team members need to get that pesky first sale and many more after

Very good questions. Actually there is no fixed time to make a sell. There are many things are related here. Such as WEBSITE, TRAFFIC. You need to make good content on your site. You also need to take the targeted traffic. Page rank & so on. If you have every things in the good position, there's no need to time to make a sell. If you have the targeted traffic, sell must be.

Yep there is no fixed time to make a sale and I tell them this especially if they are looking at having a long term business strategy...

We need to do things right the first time, have a good system in place and master traffic... this takes time but we live in an ADD society and we want everything now!

A short coaching session with them via Skype sounds like a great idea. You should also try to come up with a nice proven blue-print they can follow very easily.

Come up with a 'Daily Tasks Plan' for them. Some people like to be told exactly what to do, and when they don't have such guidelines to work with, then they tend to feel frustrated very fast and eventually quit because of lack of productivity - which ends up with no results!

You also need to hit their emotions with inspiration and motivation as often as possible. If you don't inspire them and motivate them to keep pushing forward, then they have a higher chance to quit.

Emotions are very powerful, and it is also what drives people. So, you need to hit that part in them. Someone that is REALLY inspired and motivated to change their entire life, is more likely to do whatever it takes to make it happen!

I personally have my own training site where I teach my team members exactly how to market on Facebook, how to build a successful blog, etc.

I also offer them audios where I inspire them as much as possible. The right Mindset is VERY important in this journey online.

Never forget that success is 80% Mindset and 20 % Massive Action!

With that being said, you should work a little bit more on your team's mindset - the action can naturally happen from there!

    I hope this helps!

I wish you the best of the best!

    Cheers!

This is what I am talking about! I resonate a lot with this idea cause I am a firm believer in mindset... every time I fall on my ass, it's because my mindset is not as superior as it should be...

Have you ever considered a business model that only depends on your own motivation and action?

You can't make people something they're not, no matter how hard you try.

What I do massively depends on my own motivation and action but a big part of this is going to be automated by time but I know that if I can have people in my downline who work as hard as me, then my success is greater.

Also, I enjoy working with people and I believe that everyone has potential inside them, especially if we can find a way to tap into this. As FreedomBlogger said, it all comes down to mindset. So if I can find a way to handle the way they look at their inner potential, then I know they can achieve whatever it is they want to achieve with my help

It seems worthwhile to instill this into your training program. Have a brief, action-based approach included for maintaining motivation long-term. You may also consider integrating other methods for overcoming behavioral inhibitions, such as having them track if they are taking the actions that are part of the motivation program each day ... and then report the tracking data to you. Explain to them that this is necessary to help spur them on so they are more likely to keep going until they succeed ... and also more likely to succeed sooner as a result of the heightened motivation.

Increasing motivation in others tends to be a simple matter of making a study of it yourself (or hiring someone who knows it well), and then using that information to enhance your training program. Both adding it to the program, and altering the program in ways that makes it require less effort in order to follow it ... while still delivering the same results.

Patience & motivation is key...They have to realize that it is all dependent on how much effort they put in. Also, it would depend on who is their mentor/coach. Some people get left hanging after they sign up with somebody promising them the world. Ugh...Being left high & dry just to make a sale is the reason why so many people in this industry fail.
