African Safari tours, Any advice to grow their business globally?

Hi everybody,

A friend of mine is running a tour and travel agency here in New York that offers African Safaris with high quality (they have been featured many times in travel magazines in the US).

His marketing methods are mostly old-style channels such as TV ads, (sometimes Google ads), word of mouth (since they are in business for more than 40 years), etc.

Now, he is coming across the fact that he is losing millions of customers around the world that want to travel to Africa, but simply don't know these guys. So he wants to grow his business beyond just New York, (and probably USA), I told him that he should think more of online marketing strategies, but honestly don't know which online method work best in this case (social media marketing, SEO, email marketing, or other methods) . What do you guys think are the most efficient marketing channel for him to reach to outside the US?

Email. Like an email newsletter featuring color spreads of exotic African locations. The emails should be very targeted to specific individuals that have shown an interest in traveling to Africa. You will find these leads on lists that can be rented. For this type of campaign, I would think it's going to be fairly expensive for targeted leads but that's the price they will have to pay in order to find those that want exactly what the company is offering. Since they want to promote outside the U.S. they will have to have deep pockets.

TV ads are not targeted enough. How many folks that watch TV have the wherewithal to travel to Africa on a tour?

Thanks Steve. How about buying Google ads to bring traffic to their website, and then have the traffic sign up with their emails to get a freebie (free catalog or something), to make a list?

Yep build an email list and then send out targeted email to those customers. I would also set up a facebook group called "African Safari's" and start promoting it through facebook advertising and by getting friends and family to join the group. Then ensure that there are plenty of posts linking back to the main website.
