Free and best method to build list?

What's a free method to start building your list? I realize an auto responder is a required investment, but how do I go about driving traffic to the page to capture e-mail addresses? Should I build a quick lead page, or work on a site with more content? I'm new to IM and want to make sure I'm on the right path.

    I just discovered how valuable Facebook Groups are (I know I'm late ;-)) - last month I made 520 Euros just by posting on Facebook helping others and giving them what they need. Beside that - I'd say YouTube and Pinterest

    First try to build a high converting squeeze page, then go to your facebook account and join to some Clickbanking/Adswaps groups. And first try to send clicks and buy 1 or 2 solo ads. After you completed the clicks what you promised, then they will also send you clicks and you will build your list like this. Which called Clickbanking. After that don't spend money and try to communicate with 2-4 persons in same time. You can easily build 2000 subscribers within your first month.

    You can use guest posting, forum marketing, commenting on other blogs, social media as free traffic methods.
