How exactly do "upsells" work?

I'm a little confused by this...

Let's say you buy an internet product. The initial offer is $67. You put in your credit card information, hit that "next" button and then... UPSELL! So, let's say you accept the upsell. Do you then have to put in your credit card info AGAIN?

This is what confuses me... are people expected to put in the info twice or does the system "store" their information?

It depends what system/platform the vendor is using.

Some platforms offer one click upsells meaning the payment information does not need to be entered a second time.

However most platforms will require the customer to enter their payment details again.

Pretty much what Will said. It all depends on your merchant processor/network.

Some allows one click upsell which means the customer does not need to enter their information again. They just need to click a button and it automatically takes the funds out.

Most though, do require the customer to re-enter their information.

If you have a Paypal account it's super easy to just log in again. I could see it being slightly annoying to enter your credit card in again though- might be worth getting a Paypal account.

I know with allot of the stuff that I see you will make the first initial purchase and then purchase the upsell separately.

So essentially, two different transactions. Although I am sure there are people out there with different platforms that bundle them together.

Either way, Paypal usually makes it pretty easy to keep it all organized.
