How to find out what people want?

Most successful sites provide something that people really wants. Are there any resources to let me figure out what people want? Beside keyword research tools.

I'm not talking about niche level. I want to find a topic and create something better than competitors. For the ideas I came up with, either entry barrier is too high for me, or the site I thought of is not something people wants.

You can look at successful products on Clicbank.
Sort them out by gravity and it will tell you what people buy the most.

      Hi

here are some simple tips you could try

      1. Google trends
      2.Yahoo Trends
      3. Twitter Trends
      4. EBAY Trends

If you have a niche already,
      1. Find forums and see what people are saying
      2. search yahoo answers and similar sites to see if you can spot a problem, find a solution and sell that solution to those people with the problem

One thing is for sure, from JAN until the start of summer people are going to be looking to LOSE WEIGHT, GET IN SHAPE, ETC... Its always the same.. NEW YEARS resolutions

Great post. See what is selling at the moment. See what others are enjoying today. Find what people in a certain niche are mainly in need of.

In the end, your goal should to be to:

Find a need (or problem) and fill it (or solve the problem)

Try jvzoo.com and see what the top products are selling in the last week or 30 days.

Gravity tells you the number of sellers- not the number of buyers.

Gravity is an indicator of how many affiliates have made at least 1 sale in the past week. It gives ZERO indication of the numbers of buyers or sales in that week.

      1 Seller + 100 sales = Gravity 1

      2 Sellers + 50 sales each = Gravity 2

      10 Sellers + 10 sales each = Gravity 10

      100 Sellers + 1 sale each = Gravity 100

In this example, Gravity 1, 2, 10 and 100 all have the same total sales of 100.

Gravity shows the number of affiliates who made a sale, not the number of sales.

Search for a forum for whatever niche you're in and see what people are saying. You will usually find some very good ideas this way

The problem here is people dont always know what they want. A good example of this would be a quote from Henry Ford, "Before I invented the automobile if I had of asked people what they wanted they would have said faster horses"

Your point is spot on. And thanks for sharing. I think it is true of people.

However, I think it's popular myth attributed to Henry Ford. https://hbr.org/2011/08/henry-ford-never-said-the-fast/ Even so, it's a good concept to remember.

Also, here's a great article which I think goes deeper into innovating:

That is just Henry Ford not understanding what people want.

When someone says "I want a faster horse" they really mean "I want to travel faster".

It is important, when asking people what they want, to read into the feedback to find out the true desire.

You need to figure out the "what do they really want" not "what are they asking for".

I want a faster horse = I want a vehicle that travels place to place more quickly

The most successful marketers answer the NEED behind the request.

Since the car wasn't invented yet, what did Henry Ford expect people to want?

    I agree with BizMath.

Sometimes we make things hard and yet they're not !

If you want to sell something, you have to become a buyer !

In addition if you want to sell weight-lose pruducts,
you have to think what YOU want to hear.

So as we say .... KISS ! ( Keep It Simple Stupid )

I like Adrianhenry's reply and the quote from Henry Ford. I think it's best to have a general idea of what people want in an area that you have quite a bit of passion.

You then have to keep up with the current products and attitudes around that passion and write/email people about things related to this. You ask people for comments and questions as you write.

You will know from the comments you receive and the replies to your emails if you are in the ballpark. If not, you know you need to make adjustments.

There are few sites or social medias through which you can find out what people want like Facebook trends, Digital trends, India trends, Twitter trends, Google trends, etc. Try it and get connected to people.

    Check out Amazon

Search for the best sellers in your niche.

You can get a plethora of ideas from that tactic alone
