Don't make the mistake of using wordpress.com or blogger/blogspot, where you won't own the site yourself, and the terms of service and their inconsistent interpretations and enforcement may well catch you out - you can lose your site, that way (as so many Warriors have!).

  It's not 100% essential, if you use one of the suggestions in my post above. You can do it all free, and safely - probably "less than ideal", though.

  I suggest you to open a free blog on blogger.com and convert it to a private website with good hosting service provider like godaddy or blushost. I have had used ooowebhost.com and faced so many technical issues. The site speed is slow and many times site was down. I nearly lost my site and then transferred to godaddy by converting it to private website from blog. The blogger also provides free hosting, you can aslo utilize that feature without going for godaddy.

Every free blog provider has a "catch" to them. If you really want to be serious about your internet business, pay for a quality blog. I currently use Wordpress. I love it. I hated it at first because i loved Blogger. Then Blogger said "screw you" and deleted my blog, and now i love Wordpress even more than my old Blogspot site. Erase the whole idea of a free blog host. Pay money and get in the game.

You have to know that the free version has a limitation. If you want to customize more than the version have, you need to use the paid version. If you use the paid version features, you will be able to use anything, there is no problem. Thanks

All you need is a hosted WordPress blog (wordpress.org = the open source site) -- not WordPress.com (service)

Also don't use
- Godaddy
- Yahoo
- 1&1
- Dreamhost
- the 50+ EIG brands, including Hostgator, Bluehost, Justhost, iPage, Fatcow, and a crapload others

Aside from that, you should be fine to do what you want.

Totally agree with Alexa. You definitely don't want to be using WP.com or Blogger due to their restrictions. In fact, if you read the terms of service, WP.com even have limitations on themes. If you ever want to use a custom theme you are not allowed, unless you upgrade to their highest paid package.

To customize your theme you'll need a good understanding of html, css and php.

You can learn all this stuff at Team Treehouse, who offer a 14 day free trial. But it's not a skill you learn over night.

Regarding your changes not showing up in the browser after you've changed the font...

This could be for one of three reasons....

1, there's a cache on your site and the browser is showing the cached design. Some webhosts automatically have cached features built in to their service. It's great for page load speed, but not so good during theme customization because you can't view your changes unless you clear the cache manually.

2, You need to clear the cache on your browser.

3, There's an error in the changes you made.

How did you edit the font? With code or a plugin?

I think without paid domain you can not get good seo Rankings.
What so ever you can host it on blogger.
Simple way to do so is Have a free blog on Blogger and purchase a domain from any domain hosting service and link both of them

Just read their T.O.S and you'll be safe. Whether it's paid or not, the important thing is to backup your site always. So choose free blogging that allows you to backup your blogs.

I'm surprised and disappointed, to see two or three people here recommending that the OP should used "Blogger", because this really is a very bad, risky, ill-thought-out, inadvisable and completely unnecessary idea.

The way to be sure that things like this don't happen to you (

) is to stay well away from Blogger.

It doesn't even matter exactly what the rules say, there: they're so idiosyncratically and inconsistently applied and interpreted that there's no point in trying to decide these things "logically" or "reasonably". Even Blogger themselves openly admit that blogs are sometimes deleted as part of an automated process, without human intervention, when people (competitors?) "flag" blogs.

It makes no sense at all to let any part of your business, unnecessarily, be dependent on a site you don't yourself own and control.

The reality is that there are only really four (partly overlapping) groups of people (in "internet marketing") who use Blogger ...

(i) People who are completely unaware of the unnecessary risks

(ii) People who imagine that those risks are all problems that happen "only to other people" and that they'll be ok "if they stick to the terms of service" (this is, of course, nonsense but a lot of people still believe it

)

(iii) People who don't know that you can have your own reliably self-hosted WordPress blogs without even paying anyone a penny for the blog, the theme or the hosting

(iv) Very few people who still imagine that "they must rank well because Google owns Blogger" (seriously, there are still a few people who believe that - it's also utter nonsense, obviously).

And if anyone wants to know even more reasons to avoid Blogger, there are plenty more listed in the threads like these and a few hundred others in this forum ...

You've noting to surprised or disappointed. More than 30% of my business runs upon the Blogger platform. Do the right thing, you'll never ever get any bad bargain.

How to find the difference between right thing and wrong thing?

1.Create a niche Blog on Blogger.
2.Write 5 own articles and publish.

Wait for 10-12 days............

3. Go to several article directories and find 15 niche articles.
4. Publish all of them on your Blog....

Wait for 1-2 days........

5. Log in to the dashboard of your Blog..... and READ THE WARNING MESSAGE.

You can even import your Blogger style blog into the Wordpress. There is a place in your settings where that is possible. You can find a tutorial online to explain more. Just mentioning this as many times, a blogger.com site will have hundreds of posts already and you don't want to have to manually copy all those posts over to the new site.

If a person uses Blogger to host their blog, and if they use their own domain name and keep regular backups of their sites, they will be at no more risk of losing their site than if they choose to use one of the shitty free hosts you recommended in an earlier post and which I've quoted below.

Using somebody else's subdomain is a bad idea no matter where your site is hosted or what you're paying for it. And if you don't download regular backups because you think the host you pay for is going to do that, then you're going to have a bad time.

You can put up a blogger blog with your own domain name, and as long as you backup your site regularly, then you've got nothing to worry about.

I think you need to pay to get a good website

But I have tried blogspot one time and it looked good. I have found premade themes that looks very pleasing. I made use of tutorials as guides and it is good that there are some that I can actually follow easily. Good thing it worked too.

I just installed wp on 000webhost free account, seems to be alright.I had to do it manually couldn't get there installer to work for me.There are youtube videos on how to install wp to 000Webhost as well as tons of videos for making wp sites.I think it's a good no cost way to start out but if start getting good amounts of traffic watch your bandwidth they don't give you much as a free member.As far is having problems with themes and customization search youtube there are some great videos for making your wp site like I mentioned earlier

The 2 worst options to use as a free blogging platform are without a doubt WP.com or Blogger /Blogspot.

I have had so many of my free WP and Blogspot blogs deleted I have lost count of them. The worst part of it is that the ones which were taken down, had original content and were of higher quality, while some of the lesser quality blogs which I had set up to be auto-blogs are still going strong (even though they don`t get enough traffic to even deserve a yawn).

The best thing you can do is invest about 10 bucks to buy a domain on NameCheap, then another 5 to 10 bucks a month for hosting (I recommend HawkHost). Then you have complete control and can start a real business.

In the meantime, if you do not have the funds to make that small investment yet, I recommend using Weebly, Typepad, LiveJournal or Tumblr as free blog options.

I have over 100 blogspot blogs, and a couple of WP.com blogs, and have used them without a problem or any deletion since 2008. Really, why do the apostles of "pay for something, or you're not serious about IM" presume to speak for everybody's experience?

Getting your 'own' domain (which just means renting a TLD name, not owning) and hosting space is merely the preferred or first class way to go, if you want more flexibility to protect yourself from artificial limits or adverse decisions. Since a majority of marketers are not making money from their sites, choosing the 'second rate' option of using free sites may have value, and is not a "mistake." Perform prudent workarounds to minimize the disadvantages, and you can thrive with blogspot and wordpress.com.

I've had "secondary" blogs on Blogger, Wordpress.COM and Tumblr - and they have been around for ages. Years and years.

No, I'm no advocate of building assets on "other people's" properties... but sometimes, hosting blogs on platforms not under your control has value.

Of course, you must consider their terms of service, and are bound by some of their restrictions - but then, you're getting a lot for free, like stability, security, latest updated software etc. It's a trade-off, which may or may not be right for YOU.

For free sources I can only suggest weebly.com .

It is always better to own your site though and not use a sub domain. A sub domain being How relevant is Your Domain Name? - Home.

Now you can get a site going for very cheap. Just head to godaddy.com buy your domain name. They have them on sale for $1.49.

Then go to freehosting.com. After you have everything set up and wordpress installed you will be good to go.

First, it's important that you host your own wordpress site to have 100% control over the content and customization. I can help you set up a free custom wordpress blog for free with a premium theme and a my best plugins, this will save you a lot of time and at least $100 on buying a premium theme ( see my signature )

1) Here is why you want to avoid free blogging sites like wordpress.com or livejournal or blogger - at any time they can choose to take your content down if you break one of their rules, and you are limited to what you can do on a free platform. When you own your own domain and blog, it's yours 100% and you can do whatever you want with it.
