Is reselling hosting plan is a great idea?

Hi warriors,

Have you ever tried resell hosting plan, I have seen that famous hostings like bluehost, hostgator, fatcow etc have resell plan.

This means that we can run our own hosting company but using their server, we just need to attract and contact clients.

What do you think about this?

By the way, what is the best web hosting resell plan, in your opinion?

Thanks for any reply.

Don't forget the support, billing, etc. that is provided by you now and not people like HG.

How will you handle the support?

Will you install a phone so that your customers can call you?

Will you hire people so that you have 24 hour support available like they do?

Are you familiar enough with every minute detail of hosting that hosts get asked such as "what should be the file permissions on wp-config.php 655 or 555 or 777? And how do you change them? And what is FTP and how do I do that? My site won't load?

It can work but it's not riches waiting to happen for most people without the time and appropriate resources to handle it properly in my opinion.

    Mark

Mark is right on point here. I have been a developer and involved with websites for quite a while now and I still dont think I would know enough to be confident to answer a lot of the questions that could be thrown your way by customers. Even if you had the knowledge you cannot man the phone yourself all day every day so you will have to hire someone or have a lower standard of customer service.

These are all things to consider but if you think it through and come up with a good plan I have no doubt that it could be made into a profitable venture.

    Good luck

I own a web hosting company and can tell you, it is a super competitive market.
The support alone will keep you busy. Years ago I started with a HG reseller plan and eventually grew to 5000+ clients so needed to go dedicated for all servers.

If you can attract the business (don't bother with SEO or online advertising) then I would say setup your WHMCS and Payment Gateways and all automation and then go for it mate!

FYI: All of those are the same host, and it's known for terrible service.

Reseller hosting is good NOT just for reselling, but as a multi-domain host for a single person, Because each account is a separate Linux account, it has higher security than shared "addon" domains.

I have done that in my company. You'd better resell from an excellent hosting company, with minimum downtime and great support to you... because your client will call you for support when their website is down, or they think it's down, but in fact that's their ISP at fault.

If you plan to do that I think it's better to host the sites your develop for clients... nothing else.
    Billing is also complicated.

    I hope this helps.

Think out of the box and you'll do well.

I resell hosting but this is only one element in the package I resell. Using Host Gator, you'll receive $125 per signup after you hit 21 signups in a month, which, with the right system, is very easy. If you concentrate on reselling hosting alone, you should be looking at $3,500 and up, but combine that with other products, and on-going products, and $10K a month is achievable. More. Another thing to consider is selling your own hosting. Long-term, you'll make more money, especially if you go after eCommerce sites. You can charge them more.

Those companies are all now owned by EIG, whose business model is apparently to take over previously good hosting companies and turn them into unreliable customer-service nightmares. You'll need to decide for yourself whether that's really something you'll want to promote. I wouldn't.

It's like everything else in internet marketing: it's a great idea for people who have the skills to generate targeted traffic for it and to build trust-based relationships with people in need of the service/product, so that the recommendations offered will carry enough credibility and weight for people to buy. Without that - not so much. The success-potential is determined - as ever - by marketing skills, rather than by the niche itself.

I do reseller hosting for my local clients since they would end up coming to me with issues anyway. I also charge them a monthly fee significantly higher then what a web host would charge. If you go to web hosting talk they have an entire little instruction manual on how to do it...

Another idea is to flip a PLR site with 3 to 6 months of free hosting. Most will remain when you start charging.

Thank you for the reply Mark, but what if I use user end reseller hosting such as skynethosting or innohosting? - they can provide me technical support for my clients

Thanks for the insights, can you suggest me a few or at least one great hosting that I can resell. Is there any?

There are pros and cons to doing anything. I say if it doesn't cost much (or anything) to start, then try it out. All you can do is fail...and failing isn't really a bad thing at all. That's how you learn. I tried reselling hosting years ago and sucked miserably at it, so I learned I'd be better at doing something else. We're all good at something, maybe you'll be a reseller rockstar.

I bought a reseller plan (not from EIG) but I got it for myself, not to actually sell hosting to others.

I have several websites and having them on one single cPanel is a bad idea mostly because of getting hacked. If one of the sites gets hacked you can pretty much lose all of your sites in an instant.

Reseller package offers me to have a separate account for each website. Oh, and after chatting with a few hosting providers I was able to get a reseller package for less money that I was paying for a shared plan with hostgator. Finally I left hostgator which makes me really happy

You might do better by just being a host plan affiliate, especially if you don't want to deal with all the hassles that go along with host reselling. If you can find an affordable plan to start with and already have a built in source of traffic such as your email list, then you could easily branch out into reselling over time.

If you are a developer, web designer or similar reseller hosting is awesome so you can have your clients hosted under you without much trouble and maintain each one individually without compromising security & privacy for every client.

If you are building websites for clients, having a reseller hosting plan is a good idea to make some extra cash on a monthly/yearly basis.

    Advantages:
You dont have to be an expert at hosting or servers etc - most hosting companies have excellent support and do regular maintenance on the servers etc

    Disadvantages:
The money you make from hosting is not that great compared to all the client hassles you may get.

If you want to do this to get rich, i would recommend reselling another service, like SEO - there's much more money in SEO reselling than hosting reselling. - just my personal experience.

    All the best

If I were you - you can sell or include free hosting for client you'll get as
a web consultant of some sort.

Hosting reseller looks interesting, but you need to get ready for support.

reselling hosting plans directly is no good . if you give away a report with alot of value on how to to make money with a website and then have your affliate links in the report. this would work.
    but, provide alot of value.
