Honestly, I think MOST people never really make any money. I think it's because it's hard work [and a lot of people are lazy]. There's no real shortcut to making money online...you have to approach it like a real business (because it is). If you're trying to make "$144,578 in just 10 minutes a week" or whatever, it's probably not going to happen. Everyone who is truly successful online works their butt off. If they seem like they've got it made now, that's only because with the extra money they've earned they are able to outsource and delegate tasks freeing up their time. Once you can get to that point, things start to grow exponentially and compound on themselves.

There are many people in IM that don't make a single cent, but it is easier than you think to make money in IM.

There are 2 keys missing in most people that contribute to their lack of making money in IM.

        Focus & Consistent Action.

Alot of folks who want to make money in IM jump from one opportunity to the next without any focus. If you do pick something, you give up the minute it looks like you're going to actually have to put in some work.

Next shiny object...and this sad cycle continues.

Contrary to popular belief, It Does Not take hard work to make money in IM. You must take action, but it has to be consistent, even if little by little.

The work you put in should be focused and consistent, not necessarily hard.

Eric is correct, "hard work" was perhaps the wrong word I used. It IS about taking action--most people just try it for a little while and when it doesn't immediately show the kind of results they want, they give up and move to something else. If something isn't working it doesn't mean the idea is necessarily bad, the approach just needs to be tweaked.

Just to introduce a completely different perspective (), I strongly suspect that for very many of the people who earn nothing (or next to nothing), lack of taking action isn't actually their problem at all.

I know many people who have been members here for quite a while, have taken loads and loads of action, and still haven't earned anything worth talking about, because they've set off (sometimes repeatedly) in the wrong direction. Their action has - in some cases - even been approaching "tireless", but it still hasn't helped them, because they're making fundamental errors. Typically, they lack good education and appropriate orientation, not action.

I was there myself, when I started. I took loads of action, and earned nothing at all for 3 months and very little in my 4th, because I followed lots of advice from people who actually didn't know what they were talking about at all. Some of them were making some money from selling advice (rather than from having acted on it themselves, clearly!). I made all these mistakes, and as long as I was making those mistakes, I couldn't earn anything. Such situations are very common. They have lots of direct equivalents in other "internet marketing business models". And I still see hundreds of people here making all those exact same mistakes as I made (among many others).

At some point, unless they get lucky very quickly (and let's not deny that there's typically some pure luck involved, too), people have to go through some kind of process of "deciding who to listen to".

This comes more easily to some people than to others. It involves some judgment of life, of other people's credibility and perhaps to some extent of business, too.

The specific problems involved in doing that are (a) that in a field of endeavor in which most people are unsuccessful, most information is probably going to be unreliable (so "going with the majority view" will very often lead to failure), and (b) that people who are themselves involved in IM-related and/or MMO-related niches are sometimes (for quite a variety of reasons, not all of them immediately apparent) the ones regurgitating advice that sucks. To put it bluntly.

Just the skepchick perspective, you understand.

          .

Well, it's not so much the fact that many don't make money, it's that many don't take enough action to make the money. I see that just about every day.

Or they keep looking for the easy button, or jump from one thing to another, never spending enough time on one thing to make money. Course this has been discussed MANY times on this forum.

I would add to the fact that some people do earn money but since their ROI is less than 100%, they believe they will just keep wasting money and thus give up, while this is just part of the process. They declare Forfeit in front of a Failure that is hiding a Success.

A ton. Most people quit after they get 1 or 2 sales. Then sales stop for 2 months and they say that the internet is a scam/doesn't work/etc. Less competition for me. Question is though... are YOU one of those people out there who has never made 1 cent thus far in your online business career?

I personalty have made money online but I would guess about 80 to 90% of people never make any money because they get overwhelmed and frustrated because they do not have a good product, good plan of action and good direction. Also making money online is not a get rich do something once thing, it takes allot of hard work and persistence.

Since I have been studying internet marketing for some time now something that I have realized is that it is a lot harder then a lot of people would have you feel. You see the problem is a lot of people would make you feel that when you come online that you will begin to make a lot of money when you are just starting, but I will tell you that this is something that I have learned the hard way.

Internet Marketing is hard and many people that are successful today because of it have worked extremely hard to get to the point that they are at right now in there internet marketing careers. I know a lot of people might be hurt by that statement but I have been studying this for a few years now and it is hard to make money online because there is a lot of work involved.

The biggest tip that I could give anyone that is getting started online is to take consistent action every single day and in the long term it will pay off.

I do not think that there will be anyone in this forum that would admit to something like this that they have yet to make any real money online from there efforts.

You need to focus on only one thing until you are successful, i..e don't spread your focus. Also, keep on after it. Too many people rush off to new things, and you're starting over each time.

Most people treat IM as a hobby instead of a serious business venture. They lack a focused attention on a specific business model. They suffer from the shiny object syndrome which makes them spend 90% of their time learning and only 10% doing the actual IM work.

Most people here are selling products how to become rich. If it really made them rich why they sell it? Well obvious it doesn't, the selling of these things is their core business.

I ain't gonna outline either in exact words/steps how I came so far and if I would it wouldn't accomplish the same results as 2-3 years ago cause times change. Eg people are scared of SEO/Google so you'd make much less sales then I did back then.

So you can either go two ways to make a lot of money without investing too much:

        1) Offer a real service, like writing service, SEO service, PPC service, web design service and give it a lot of time to grow, and obvious deliver a top notch service (for cheap if you advertise here) or you'll never grow, simple as that

        2) Join the rest selling the idea of "making money online", do so by creating awesome sales funnels and what not, if others can do it so can you, but I wouldn't be very proud of it.

Anyway that are some ways to get started without investing much money and that can potentially grow out to a lot of money if you give it time.

Now I passed that stage and I do have money to invest so I wouldn't chose either of these paths anymore, sure I keep working on my service business but it doens't really feel like working anymore, more like maintaining it but that's a different story.

When you do have the cash flow there are again two ways to become successful (obvious more ways but generally spoken as it's all about traffic).

        1) Paid traffic, PPC/PPV etc where you can make it quickly

        2) Organic traffic (from Google), which is my preferred way for now, sure Google is making it harder but far from impossible and for me it's all about ROI and I think right now I can make a higher ROI from SEO then from PPC.

When SEO comes to a level where it becomes hardly worth it or takes too much effort then I'll have a closer look at paid traffic.

So when you think of it I let Google lead my life and I'm perfectly fine with that, it probably won't make me a multi milllionaire but I don't have much serious fancy wishes like driving a very expensive car, I already live in a large house with 3 bed rooms (for what we only use one) and a private swimming pool in a warm country (Thailand) and a very handsome partner so what more would I want? A private jet or helicopter? Lol that's wouldn't be too bad I admit

Oh I forgot to mention the whole point I'm trying to make:

Those WSO's are not very helpful as it's all based on one thing: TRAFFIC, and traffic costs money, one way or the other it always comes down to investing, so when you keep thinking the next method will make me money then you're in a loop that you have to break. A lot of money is a result of hard work and'/or large investments. There are no shortcuts.

Lesson: When you look to buy the next WSO for $7,- then tell yourself that you're not spending just $7 but that you are opening yourself up to spend thousands of dollars, so that WSO costs you let's say $1007,- to get started, if you knew that upfront would you still buy it? Guess not.

If I plan to spend $10.000,- as I like to make considerable amounts of money to sustain my lifestyle then I don't let some $7 WSO lead me, instead I look for real expert help or teach it myself by falling and standing up.

Quick tip: If you do want to provide some sort of value, don't want to be attached to a service and have little to spend then just focus on something like buy at Amazon/Alibaba and sell at Craigslist or worse start to resell Fiverr gigs or something. That's really the quickest way to some start up cash.

You knew back then with ALN/BMR/UAW and tons of others, that all required like $69/month? Most didn't want to spend that so what I did was combine these services and sell it as one diverse package and when I started I didn't have much bucks either but I found that some people at Fiverr sold these exact same links on 2-3 networks for $5,- I combined a few of these people to offer links at 6-8 networks, made my first bucks and signed up myself for these services as that was even cheaper and from there I moved to my own private network and so on.

The truth is most marketers don't know the secret of succeeding online.

If you want to make money online, you need traffic and conversions.

But the foundation of succeeding in internet marketing is a landing page or review page.

Frankly speaking, the difference between the very successful marketers and the 95% who don't make it online are the number of landing/review pages.

Probably 95% of successful marketers have landing/review pages while 85% or more of the unsuccessfuls have never built one.

If you dont capture leads, you cant improve your conversions by follow emails and you wont have a list which is ready free traffic.

In the alternative, conversions zoom up when you have a review page.

These 2 are compulsory as many advert platforms such as google, facebook and so forth hate affiliate links.

The sooner newbies wake up to this fact, the better

Here's one thing I think is missing so often. It's like what i do for my offline business. What i do takes a very skilled individual to do it well, and consistently. (I have a "body shop on wheels" and I service car dealers.)

That doesn't stop every one and there brother from trying to get into the business. (I've made $1500 in a day at my high volume dealers.) So like anything if there is money to be made there's a lot of people doing it or trying to do it.

The people who are good, really good, stay in it year after year. While others fade away.

People who are good are willing to look at what they are doing and make changes if need be and or improve what they are doing that works, as well as if you made changes that didn't work, go back to what you did that did work!

I'm not an expert at I.M. yet, but I will be! Because these principles apply to all aspects of life.

It's like the saying I heard a long time ago..."if you gave everyone in the world a million dollars, those who are rich now, would still be rich in a year, and those who are poor would still be poor!"

I've heard that it's something like 90%+ never make any money, but I find that heard to believe. As long as you do your research, find a solid business model, and stick with it, you'll make money. I guess lots of people give up before they get there, and I think it also has a lot to do with your mindset.

Golden you sure are bold, anyway its funny that all 25 people didn't really answer the question (including myself)

But I will say that I have many, many, many, unfinished projects that never made a cent, most of the time because I got lazy when I realized how much work they were, or jumping to another project. It took me a long time to get my first check, still remember it, $135.04 from adsense, and that's when I realized how much work it really took.

Changed my whole approach of how I went about things, scheduled daily tasks, taking notes, no shortcuts,( no tool can run an entire campaign for you) no get rich quick searching.....

I feel like its good to go through that newbie stage of "failure" cause you start to see what really works and what doesn't and a better filter when reading ebooks, just my two cents

New people are constantly coming in and trying to learn how to make money online and they buy lots of different courses and tools until they figure out what works, if they don't give up and don't get bankrupt in the process. I am one of them from some other working I am earned money but from past one year I am here in this forum.Reading the posts and Info's. Still I didn't earned any kind of cash.

I have analysed it why I didn't earn. There are few reason is my view:
I am a student of engineering so I will be in the class from 8am to 5 am everyday except Sunday.
So,i didn't get much time online.I have to cook my food, wash my clothes, clean room and prepare for exams every months.

2nd problem is I am not have PC or laptop I have only a mobile and a tab I got recently.so its hard to work from tab or mobile.

I was not having any payment options but recently I got my PayPal verified.

I am not a native English speaker and not frequently use English.

I learned HTML from w3school and created a mobile site which got 100000 visits in one year after my hard work. Its on free hosting and adsense disapproved it.I used some adz to earn but never got any clicks.

Finally I left everything for 3 months becoz of exam and again came back.I tried writing articles.

    I know c program very wel .

still thinking about some methods with which I can earn at least 5$ a day.

Interesting question --- thank you for asking! I guess I'm a typical example of someone who has spent a lot of time and money searching for the ONE thing that will help me make money online. A lot of the products I bought were great, but I didn't follow through. I became distracted by the next shiny object that promised to make me even more money and quicker! Earlier this year I finally came to the conclusion that I wasn't going to get anywhere on my own. I needed a mentor, someone who would show me where I had gone wrong, and what I should do about it. There are a lot of mentors out there who are more than willing to share their expertise. There's probably at least one in every single niche and some of them are experts in several niches. Once you've decided which niche really appeals to you, perhaps you could ask a question in the Search box on this forum, or go through Google. I wish you good luck in all your endeavours and hope you will keep smiling!
