I've been mulling this idea over for a while and decided to get input from a variety of members here at the WF. I would appreciate your help, and or ideas in bringing this project to the market.

The Idea
Just a little bit about myself, I write content and have been writing content for the market for several years. Having said that, I know quite a bit about what it takes to be a successful freelance writer even in today's tight wallet community. I have experienced many of the troubles that most new freelance writers have experienced at one time or another and found ways around them.

I want to provide an ebook/kindle book/pdf that would be the go to book for new freelance writers, internet marketers who want a useful resource to help them outsource content to their writers, and anyone in general who cares about fresh content for their websites with minimal effort.

How much would this work be worth to you and how much would you be willing to pay for such a book? Please don't mention some obscene amount like $9. Remember, I'm a freelance writer and I have developed this routine to enable me to stay home and make money at an almost effortless rate.

So I guess my questions are:
  • What would you pay for this one stop resource?
  • What would you like to see in this said book that would achieve my goal of making this a one stop resource?

Thanks for your input!

    I would pay $8.99...

This has been done over and over again.

As far as a one stop resource, well it never stops and such a resource would need constant updates.

I think it could be a one hit wonder as a standalone ebook, as a website with updates as a blog for newbie writers/IM'ers it could go on for years.

    Your choice I guess.

The thing is, I've actually developed a system that makes it so it won't take a huge chunk of time out of your schedule. I don't think it should take an hour to write an article. More like 15-20 minutes per article. This is from a human writer, not some rewriting and rehashing software. I'm basically sharing my process

To be completely honest, it's really hard to just pull a number out of thin air when you're talking about a concept. I mean, we understand it's a book to teach new freelancers the process to quickly write an article, but we can't actually see the content or the quality of the ebook (this isn't to say that it's not the best ebook ever written on article writing, which I would assume it would be if you're the expert on writing haha) but this also brings me to my second point.

If you truly want a real answer and a realistic one, when you asked for our opinions about a price, why would you start off by telling us what price you don't want to hear? (you said $9) What if that is what us warriors would value something like this ebook at? Why wouldn't you ask the question, check the results we give you and then start consider scaling your project if need be?

I'm just saying that if you want us to be honest, don't give us a number you specifically don't want to hear because you're already altering your responses. I understand that no one thinks their information should be worth anything less than $100 but you have to look at what you're providing and how you're providing it.

For starters, you're targeting a bunch of newbie freelance writers. So basically people struggling to make money, and people who probably don't have $50 to spend on new writing tips right now (and I know that it's not just "writing tips" but to them it may seem that way until they get access to the actually training so selling it at a higher price may be tougher).. Also, you're delivering the content in an ebook format, rather than a step-by-step video course which is much more personal than an ebook.

Now let me step down off my soap box. I'm not saying all of this to bash you or criticize you. I'm genuinely trying to help you out and give you some ideas to think about. I applaud you for bringing the questions here to a group of experienced marketers, and I hope you get feedback that will help you reach your next step of launching this project.

And to answer your question about pricing, depending on your sales page, I may price this ebook at around $7 - $17 and then I would have an upsell (customers are much more willing to buy a higher ticket item after being drawn in with a low ball offer like $7)

    Keep up the hard work!

I am a writer and have already done what you are talking about.
You can't necessarily say that just because you have a wealth of experience that you can charge a high fee and expect to make lots of sales.

There are lots of similar books out there, and I have some of them myself. All have some different pieces of information. Many I got for free.

It's a numbers game. The higher the price, the less you'll sell so you need to decide if it's more beneficial to have more copies out there at a lower price or having a smaller number out there at a higher price.

You can always have upsells and cross sells and OTOs to make extra cash.

I would definitely go with a lower price and high volume. So any price for less than 9 bucks is what it should cost.

As the author, what's YOUR price? That's the price.

Thanks so much for the input, especially from another established Author (laurencewins). I think I'll be working on a rough draft and posting a thread in the review section of this forum. I just want to help other writers who are not exactly sure how to go about the writing process, or feel overwhelmed by it. As for people who outsource their content creation, the book would be useful in establishing guidelines for all their VA's or writers so that the articles will be predictable in style and formatting(regardless of how many VA's you have).

    Thanks again!

I would develop a solid back-end and give it away free as a membership. Keep updating and give people incentives to keep them engaged. The fortune is in the follow-up.

Maybe you do not want to invest the time but I am guessing that you could get more money by offering coaching services and us the book as a lead generator. Also, really just comes down to market so you could probably do a little research to see what similar books have sold for and quantities sold.

When pricing a product you have to separate that from your personal feelings. It plays out everyday with people selling cars and homes that they are attached to. They cannot make an objective assessment of the market value due to their personal feelingas about the object.

I am guessing the point is to make some cash. So if you could sell 150 at $9 ($1350) or 50 at $20 ($1000) I would take the $9 plus volume. Best of Luck!
