Are Forums Effective for Selling?

I've been promoting an Amazon CreateSpace book for about a month now and been spending mostly on FB Ads ($10 per day) Clicks have been about .26 per click.

Are Forums really a good method for Traffic? Been cranking away at Social Media as well but most of the "Likes" are from friends, friends of friends and Paid Ad Likes on FB. Seems like the content doesn't get too much attention - totally unique postings with pictures.

    Are forums effective for selling?

Of course, check out the WSO section of this forum for further proof.

Obviously most forums don't make it as easy to accomplish what WF gives us...

But there are many other ways of monetizing forum posts.

Yes, but you have to find a forum that: a) Is a good fit for your niche, and b) allows advertising. Obviously, if your book is about IM, running a WSO is the way to promote it. Other forums are not so easy - some require you to be a member for a certain length of time, have a certain number of posts, or even a certain number of "liked" posts before you're allowed to post an ad or have a link in your sig (or even have a sig at all).

Hi moneymagneto, forums is still effective for selling if you find right forums with high traffic.
I tried FB but it's not effective, just give me some clicks and no sales

    You have to be clever.

    Let's put things in perspective.

This isn't a real-world example that I'm using. It's just here to give you perspective.

Example: You write an eBook entitled How to Make Money by Playing Video Games.

A lot of people play video games. A lot of people want to make money. Your eBook combines both passions into one helpful product. Now, it won't appeal to everyone, but it will appeal to quite a few I'd imagine.

Gaming forums are huge. They're huge and they have huge traffic. Of course, not all of them allow signatures, and some that do won't allow a link to your eBook. But the trick is to find those that will allow that link. You spend an afternoon putting together a list and joining these forums and then you spend a few days (minus signature link) participating. Show the mods that either you're not there with the express reason to profit or, at the very least, even though that is the case, you're at least going to contribute while you're at it.

If you can get up in the morning, open up 10 gaming forum tabs, and plonk down a few posts, you're going to get traffic. And if your landing page is clever, you'll be getting people to take action.

But . . . doing that every day is a lot of work, right?

Here is where you have to be clever. I have to be careful how much I give away here because of one of my products, but I can tell you this much, and it should help you a lot:

    1. Think of forum posts like article marketers and video marketers think of articles and videos. This doesn't mean write articles on forums, just think of them in the same way. These posts rank in Google, right?

    2. Quality posts trumps quantity.

    3. Outsource.

    4. Affiliates.

    I hope that helps!

    Some forums are, some aren't.

And even on the ones that are, not everyone knows how to "sell"

If you invest time and energy to provide value, establish trust, build a brand and be helpful, you'll be richly rewarded - in many other ways, too. I say this from personal experience, right here on this forum!

You know you are exactly right.

I will say there does seem to be a certain group of people here who are just blatant about their participation in this Community.

It is one thing to Post very useful information on a regular basis here ( and be rewarded but doing it in a very respectable manner ) but it is another thing when some people here provide useful information to the Community but every other sentence they talk about how long they have been doing this and how many students they have successfully Coached and go on and on about how you need a Coach to make it far in this industry etc...etc...etc...

Is it abiding by the Rules here ?? Maybe

But I don't know, it is just a turn off to me

There's a huge difference between being helpful and establishing oneself as an expert in a niche and simply bragging and some marketers don't know the difference. Being helpful on a forum, involves putting other people's interests before one's own and trying to see the problems from their point of view.

Most forums won't allow you to link directly to a site using an affiliate link or state that any site in your signature must be your own. There's no real easy way to get around that requirement except to link to a Hubpage or Tumblr review of your affiliate product.

Forums are indeed effective for selling and there are different ways you can do so but whichever way you use you must be careful not to break the TOS or you might get suspended or banned.

The 3 main ways you can promote on forums are:
    - From your signature.
    - In the buy/sell section (like the WSO section of the Warrior Forum).
    - By paid banner advertising.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9677971].message }}
  • Yes they are.

But you gotta be careful where to promote you might get banned.

    Happy Selling.

Forums are not a direct marketplace now because of greedy spammers.but you can use your writing skills to build relationships on forum.

When you post something useful ,member follows you and ultimately they can become your customers too.

But it takes time to make your reputation and you cannot risk it by promoting affiliate links.

Outsourcing of forum posting is not recommended as it will ruin your reputation .Try to make useful posts and be active in your niche forum .Sometimes its not money ,the relation are more important

      Thanks

Yes, but don't forget to first search the right place where you will get the right audience. Here, right audience means who are interested on your product or services.
