If I can't get a .com (and they're rare, especially if your niche phrase has great numbers), I'll always go with a .net next, then a .org. If I can't get any of those three, I'll try the phrase with dashes. If I can't get it with dashes, I throw it out. I won't even touch a .info or .us or anything else, for that matter.

I knew someone would ask me that. It's not available, so...... .net or .org?

Nick says that .org is better if you are looking for getting the site ranked high up. Still try for a .com with little variations.. not for the search engine alone, but for a repeat customer.

If your site is abcd.org, most likely the customer at his first visit will remember the domain name abcd and not the .org part. When they return, they are bound to type abcd.com.. there goes one of your repeat customer

its better to have myabcd.com, abcdvariation.com that abcd.org in my opinion

Not sure who Nick is, but that's what I'm looking to do. Basically let's say my keyword is "Fuzzy Blue Widgets". Right now I can register fuzzybluewidgets.net or .org. I can also reg. myfuzzybluewidgets.com, but I'm thinking an exact match as a .net or .org has to be better for SEO, no?

Oops sorry about that.. Nick is WarriorForum - Internet Marketing Forums - View Profile: nichemarketninja . In one of his recent WSO's he mentioned about going for Keyword.com and if .com is not there, then Keyword.org should be the second choice .. Thats what I mentioned too.

I suggested KeywordVariation.com instead of keyword.org only from the repeat customer point of view. Not very sure SEO point of view..

Well you never stated it wasn't available so I didn't know.

But I'd go for .net after .com.

      .org

I have noticed, although I cannot confirm it, that .org gets a higher priority from Google.

    .net

Just my personal opinion, I always associate .org names with charity type websites so I don't use it. I stick with .com or .net when possible, sometimes .info.

most people associate .org with non profit or charity stuff. .net can look cool with the right name.

I would avoid .org if .net is available ... however, see if you can twist it a bit to get a .com - nothing like it!

to me i will get .com first if i want to make website for affiliate or about selling my owner product . because first google will index like this .com , .com.xx , .net , then .org . and second because to make trusted website . but if i want to make some site like free music or something like that. i will choose .org because org for organitzation its look like free site .

Some of my sites get better rank with org. I use both. But org is quite strong in SEO.

Yes, I agree. I also see some good SEO with my .org sites. "Net" are great but .org can be very strong for searches. In my sites I see that .org is pretty good in comparing to my net sites.

If you're trying to sell something on the site, I'd go with a .net. A lot of people still have the idea that .org sites are non-profit websites. I don't know what's better as far as search engine rankings though. Google doesn't have a preference I think. I've seen a lot of mixed results with .net and .org websites

If it's for SEO then for "all things being equal" a .org is better than a .net in terms of rankings.

    I've tested it

Grab the .net and the .org while you can. You can always change your mind later . This will give you time to think about it and you are only out $10. Better that than have someone grab it.
And you can redirect one or pop a blog on it later.

I bought a .info to get my key words when I couldn't get the .com and its pretty high up there and had some sales. What is wrong with a .info?

I would have to say it depends on what "service" or "product" you offer, I would use .net if you are offering a "Network like niche", (ie: game hosting, domain registration), And like everyone has mentioned .org is associated to "Organizations". Why not .us or .co.uk if its available to you i would suggest they are just as valiuable as .com's.
