Its been thousands of dollars I've burned through for
the past 8 years and haven't made a profit. I spend countless money
promoting this or that and get no returns at all. I truly feel helpless now.
I create a squeeze page I buy domain names, I do everything the gurus tell me...
Yet I don't make a single profit.

This month alone I spent $800 on advertising and haven't made
a single profit... I buy traffic from Facebook or another "top teir" traffic source
only to be left on the short end of the stick... again.

There has to be something I'm doing wrong, after 8 years and not turning a single profit
there has to be something I'm doing wrong or am I just having bad luck in life ?

Over the 8 years in IM I probably spent close to $4000 in buying training courses,
ebooks and the next best thing, also jumping into MLM but, failed at everyone. It annoys
me because everyone else on the internet makes it seem so real and easy. Please I seek help, I'm 24 years old and running out of options.

Thanks,
samthewildone

Sam, what have you done, specifically? You said you've spent a lot on advertising, but how did you go about it?

Giving more details about what you did will help others give you better feedback...otherwise you'll get vague replies like you have already.

Ya, something is wrong if you haven't done well in 8 years.

But, there are so many reasons, your not being very specific. You buy traffic and send it to a squeeze page. What is the conversion on the squeeze page? Do you have a sales funnel in place? How well is that converting?

How big is your list(s)? how often do you mail them? What do you mail them? What is your open rate? What is your CTR?

It can all be tracked and should be tracked, then you can pin point what is not working.

Could be so many thing. You gotta give more info.

I would recommend that you get yourself a mentor.

I have been struggling for a few years myself without making any money, but after I got myself a mentor I started seeing money coming in.

That is what I would recommend you to do.

I didn't make much in my first 8 years online - but then, I didn't spend much, either. Just time and energy, learning and trying out things. It took that long to figure out what works - for ME. After I did, things took off like a rocket.

You may be just on the verge of hitting a hot streak. Don't give up. Learn from the rich experience you've acquired - and keep hanging on.

Failure is a stepping stone to success. So don't give up....

I suggest you to choose one business model to focus. And don't forget to build a list whatever your business.

You need to get a successful mentor and meet him / her to consult.

    Stop Spending Money.

Listen, I began in the business 20 years ago. This was a time when no one really had a clue. You had no moneymaking guides. Blogs didn't exist. And if someone had suggested paying for private access to a forum, people would have pointed and giggled.

Investment is a key ingredient to a successful business. BUT . . . you need to know how to invest first. No offense, but you don't. Stop spending until you do.

Now, instead of writing the typical 20,000 word dissertation you often see in this vicinity, a wordy novel with literally zero worth, I'm going to give you some pointed advice. It won't be perfect because I don't know you well enough, and it won't be all you need, because I don't have the time.

    1. In case I haven't made myself clear already: Stop spending money.
    2. Learn how to setup a squeeze page and a sales funnel.
    3. Learn how to send FREE TRAFFIC from Youtube, FB, G+, and Twitter.
    4. Grow your list.

If you don't already have hosting and something like aWeber, and I really hope you do after blowing 8K, you can get them cheap. It costs nothing, if done correctly, getting traffic on those social networks.

You take my advice and in 3 to 6 months, you'll have a real business. Carry on doing what you're doing and you'll just be another guy who blew a ton of cash and failed.

This is your wake-up call, buddy. Time to make some money.

You say you have lost thousands of dollars promoting products.

Instead of trying to fix what's broken, why not try another route? Specifically, why not create your own product? Then get others to do that pesky promoting for you.

I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.

Failure gets you down, and eventually it comes to the point where you feel it's almost impossible to succeed. This is where most people give up, but this is actually when you're closest to success - the important thing is to get through this barrier.

When something doesn't work, don't give up on it and try something now. Stop, and figure out why it didn't work. People always blame the products... If it doesn't sell it must be a poor product...

The truth is in internet marketing it doesn't matter about the product, the customer only finds out about the product once they've bought it. You need the master the art of selling, and the best way to do that is to start with a crappy product, because if you can sell that - you can sell anything.

There has to be something wrong with your sales funnel. You need probably need to optimize for more targeted conversions.

Make sure you study hard on how to create a high converting squeeze page, valuable products, and high converting sales pages.. You can do this just by paying close attention to how well established experts are doing it. Keep improving, split testing and tweaking it.

Well 8 years is a long period of time for not seeing any success, especially if you have spent a good amount of money.

I would first of all focus on setting up a solid sales funnel. If you do'nt have that then it's hard to make money.

When you have a solid sales funnel set up, send targeted traffic to it and optimize it until you make a profit. Start slow and scale when you make money.

    Good luck!

Then I reckon it's time to re-evaluate what you are doing. See what others are doing and follow one successful method or mentor. The road to success is simply to find out what works and what doesn't.

If it doesn't work, simply ditch it or find a better way to do it. If it does work, just scale it up and see if you can make it better.

Don't give up! Success could be around the corner.

I totally agree. No craft in life should take 8 years to get good at. If that is your case, then IM is simply not your craft amd you are better off reallocating your assets and efforts somewhere else.

This is the most horrible business advice you could possibly give. In business (IM is a business) you need to realize quick when to relocate your ventures if the yield is not happening.

Saying "NEVER QUIT" to someone who has been banging his head against a wall for EIGHT YEARS is the most silly thing to say. Instead of keep going in the same direction, shouldnt he steer clear of that wall?

What has kept me going is the fact that I have personally met people at events who I follow and I know are ultra successful . I know that what I ultimately want, time freedom and financial freedom, is truly possible. I want the freedom to be with my family and to be able to give others a leg up when I can.

That is a philosophy and a belief that keeps my fire burning, regardless.

Having said that, your list is your most important asset. Whatever you have or have not done in the past, start now focusing on building your list.

The auto responder you invest in will be a cheap investment, you already know something about squeeze pages, and they are not expensive, and you can start buying the smallest packages for solo ads inexpensively as well, upgrading to the larger packages in time.

All three of those combined will not hit you very hard as far as expenses. You may have them set up already, I'm not sure.

Get people coming into your list, providing value first, and every 3-4 emails describe the BENEFITS they will receive from a particular product you already know will work.

Not the features of whatever you promote, but the benefits.

Keep providing valuable information, keep following up with people through your auto responder, and keep offering products. It may take, and probably will, as many as 7-10 emails promoting any given offer before a reader gets past skepticism and gives it a try.

Your auto responder campaign will hopefully help your reader develop trust in you as they receive your emails

One more thing, don't ever talk yourself into quitting. You are the only one who can make yourself quit.

You will be successful if you keep working, and I am talking about building your list above all other efforts. Your auto responder campaign is not static. You will add to and tweak constantly.

Be tough buddy. Believe in yourself and be tough. We all have to do that.

I hope this helps you. This forum exists to help people.

I think that just about sums it up. You know the saying: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Now that doesn't mean your plan's going to work, but if it doesn't, you'll know where it went wrong, and you'll be able to avoid making the same mistake again next time.

You're probably doing the same things over and over again, and making the same mistakes over and over again.

The fact that you've been at it for 8 years tells me you've got determination and drive. So that's great.

I suggest you read "The One Thing" by Gary Keller. It's a brilliant book that will help you focus on a single, clearly defined path. Then, as others have mentioned, build a real plan, starting with list building, then moving on to product creation and joint venturing. Ignore the shiny objects constantly being thrown at you and stay on your path.

And forget being an "Internet Marketer". Instead, build a real business that allows you to serve a clearly defined group of people.

Sometimes, we try to give up one thing too soon and go to another one. Then you feel like doing everything and still not getting results. However, the problem is, you might not have given enough time to master one thing. If you used Adwords, you should really master it and put all the effort into it. It eventually will bring some results. Then try solo ads or FB ads or whatever else. All these platforms are a little different.

Good luck! As other say, dont give up! I always say to my clients - "Be happy it is not easy, otherwise you would have a ton of new competitors every day"

Hey. I know I spent alot of time jumping from program to program when I saw that it wasn't working out. What kind of website do you have? If you don't have 1 yet, that is the 1st thing that you need to do. Find a niche that you are interested in with health, dating, video games, apps, hobbies etc. Get an autoresponder & use adsense, amazon, related ads & even clickbank to make money. Add 3-4 articles a week to your website in order to get free organic traffic. Once you have 30-50 articles you should see a BIG difference in your traffic & start to make some sales. Only start spending money on advertising once you have made a profit & until then just do some research on the forum, post at least once a day on here plus related high ranking sites & videos in order to build up your backlinks. Give it plenty of time in order to see results & with dedication you'll be doing much better this time next year

The problem is most likely your lack of focus. It can be extremely difficult to focus in IM when you are essentially testing everything at the same time, i.e. you are testing both traffic and offers at the same time. You're constantly changing both of them and you just end up spinning your wheels.

That's where the power of the mentor comes in. They know what works and that gives you the confidence to stick with something until you get it right. It also makes you accountable to someone which in turn, improves your focus.

Spent the last 5 years tinkering with silly projects, buying shiny button syndrome products and jumping from one thing to the next when it didn't work after a week of "trying". Now I am with a few mentors and slowly getting results at last. I find sticking with one thing and seeing it through to the bitter end is always better than the buy, try and dump cycle. Focus on something you really want to get good at (list building, affiliate marketing) and work your fingers off the bone to get some results to give you confidence to then ramp it up.

Btw it always seems that others are having it so easy but in truth they are not. You don't see the months of work and sweat that usually go into projects just the outcome. I've been working nearly every night after work since last year just to learn learn learn and then start building up my infrastructure, hard going but is very worth it. The trick is though you start refining your processes and ehat took you months will then take you a few days. Automate the boring stuff and concentrate on building your business and improving it.

I also think mentor is the key.

I was also struggling until I find mentor. With mentor everything change...

Heres all you need to do to make money in this business.

    1.) Pick/generate a hot converting offer

2.) Stick with that offer until you make it successful.

3.) Drive traffic (blog, videomarketing, paid traffic....) to a squeeze page and build your list.

4.) Build relationship with that list, market to it, share helpful tips and focus on 80% value 20% promotions.

5.) Take profits, reinvest, scale up

    Thats it!!

    Looks simple, but without mentor......

Find tousle a mentor or coach to guide you through. Using Google Ads or FB ads if you don't know what you're doing will burn money seriously! Have a look through the forum and WSO's and see if there is a respectable coaching program and one that you can afford. Hey Wild One...

Keep your chin up! Trust me you haven't cornered the market on struggling, or on spending a lot of money. I understand.

    Completely.

    Few of things I recommend...

First, take at least one week(month even) and stay clear of the Internet. Clear your head. Trust me, the Internet will still be here next week, still able and ready to take your money. So,

Second, while you are away determine what it is YOU want to accomplish with this crazy thing called Internet marketing.

Third, decide also who it is you will listen to when, and if you even decide to, return.

Should you come back, come back with a simple plan to follow, Follow it. That's all. Include in your plan measurable accomplishments such as... I will continue doing X until I can measure Y at the level predetermined, then I will add to the mix Z, and only then.

Simple step. Simple step. Simple step. Make sense?

Last, I said it above, it's worth repeating... Keep your chin up!

well.. experience is key.. so that's one thing you now have... you need to pick one thing, make a really good plan, understand how it works, and follow through.

take a look at my website... its in my sig... see it?.... I have slowly been building it up over a few months... searching keywords.. updated daily.. getting some okay backlinks.. and making sure my content is interesting to readers.

its now trickling in sales everyday. and its just a baby site, not even close to grown up yet.. people check out my content, seeing something they like, and buy it.. some come looking and other just happen to do it.

it takes time..this site is 3 months old...I don't expect it to become big for like a year.

but from experience... I know if I just keep making it better... expanding on it... advertising... it will get more traffic and sales... then I can monetize it even more

I had a plan... I knew how it would go down from experience of small successes in the past... now my site gets thousands of visitors. it happened by having a good plan of how my site would be and why people would want to go to it... how it would get seen... following the rules and tempermate of google... good advertising.

as for advertising ... its mostly free.... paid advertising is often a poor ROI... I know that from research, and a little experience... thus I learned.

You spent $4,000 over a period of 8 years for your online business.

Man, I spend like $30,000 + during y first few months and pretty much lost it all.

I didn't read any other posts but from what I can see, it doesn't look like you're building a list. Also, you need to sit down and actually try to understand what "Marketing" really is.

Don't ask questions like why you ain' profiting or making money. Ask better questions like why ain't they buying what you're offering. Then slowly work your way back.

Is the offer proven to convert? If yes, it could be the traffic source. If no, promote something else.

Is the payout good enough? Refund? Are they clicking on Buy Now but abandoning and so on.

In regards to your mindset. No such thing as bad luck in life when it comes to marketing.

You're taking action which is good but you need to work out your marketing strategies and focus on that.

      Thanks for all the responses...

I have built a list but, it seems that it never converts and I usually end
up cancelling the service or deleting the list.

Being a young entrepreneur money is hard to come by, so when I invest just
about $4 grand, it means a lot to me. I've purchased all types of ebooks and
the "next best thing" and always ended up failing it. Then I got into MLM which was
another fail because after I scorched through my list I had no more leads.

So after failing that, I went back to affiliate marketing which I had small wins but,
      nothing to be proud of.

Currently I'm a student, so funds are just dwindling like smoke.

I'm not sure you really have experience that is going to be valuable in moving forward. You've spent money, but that doesn't mean you spent wisely. You might be bouncing around too much for you to gain any traction.

Instead of saying how much money you've spent, you should share what all you've done or tried so far.

8 years is a long time, but you started when you were only 16. No profits over the past few years is somewhat concerning, but that's probably due to a lack of diverse information sources.

Many people here are recommending that you get a mentor. This is usually code speak for paying a get rich quick scammer to teach you how to sell get rich quick scams to newbies newer than you are. If you want a legitimate mentor/coach/consultant you will first have to decide what it is that you want to do (there is no such thing as a "make money online mentor") and then seek out someone who has experienced recent success in that field. They should be able to name in detail what they've done and it should be verifiable.

You are wrong. Firstly you have to know how to do business, then you can make investment. Unfortunately you invested thousand of dollars before knowing the business. To do business, you must select which business should you done, then you can go ahead. Such as you should select the option from a ton of way. Will you do the Adsense or, Affiliate marketing, or FOREX, Or Stock trading. then you have to make a plan. How to do the business? because all the business strategy is not same.

Wow, ok there are a lot of things that could be root cause and there are probably more than one.

First I'd like to commend you on not giving up in 8 years. That is rare and you have a quality that is very important which is determination.

One thing I will say about affiliate marketing is that depending on what you are promoting, it can be a flawed system. If you don't have a way to turn low cost sales in to bigger profits on the back end, then you will most likely spend more on advertising than you will make.

The best advice I can give you is to get help from a coach or even a mastermind group. It will make a tremendous difference.

When it comes to paid advertising be sure you are testing a lot too. Don't put a lot of money in to any one campaign until you know it's converting. Then, and only then, do you scale up.

But be sure that whatever you're promoting has large back end ROI potential.

I hope this is somewhat helpful. It's hard to go in to great detail without knowing more but keep on plugging away and focus on one traffic strategy.

Now that you've done everything wrong, it seems.

It's time to do things right, find someone who you know is doing what you want to do the right way and invest in their mentorship.

You will learn what you've being doing wrong.

The day that turned my fortunes in IM is when I stopped investing in things and started investing in people.

    Best of luck!
