Productivity is Overrated

From my experience, the most common trait you will consistently observe in accomplished people is an obsession with completion. Once a project falls into their horizon, they crave, almost compulsively, to finish it. If they're organized, this might happen in scheduled chunks. If they're not -- like many -- this might happen in all-nighters. But they get it done. Fast and consistently.

I just read this and couldn't agree more. Sure, we're all different and work differently but, for me, this hit the nail on the head.

A great example is making a to-do list and feeling like you're doing something when truth be told, you're just procrastinating, getting organized but not necessary finishing a task. More paper shuffling..

    Agreed.

I have a responsibility to be organized. People are relying on me and my businesses to put food on the table or deliver on products and services: employees, clients, students, members. By nature I'm driven and organized, but even forgetting those two things, organization is a necessity. I'm a big one for To Do lists. There's a certain degree of satisfaction to be had from ticking off each item and moving on to the next and finally ticking off that list item. Good post, buddy.

      I'm also in agreement.

I particularly like the battle cry of Seth Godin and Steven Pressfield: GET IT SHIPPED. Any Warrior who is struggling with procrastination would be well-advised to read Pressfield's Do the Work.

Pressfield's other book, The War Of Art, started me down the path of doing less, making more, and having more fun. It's a combo-strategy of outsourcing, making play as important as work, caring less about "achievment," and more about actual satisfaction.

It's also nice when you really enjoy what you do.

The things I really MUST do won't end up on a TODO list, they are printed in my mind.

For me todo lists are more of a reminder of non essential things.

@nik0 I think you hit the nail on the head with that one, the urgent stuff just gets done.

And I've heard lots of good things about Pressfield's book(s) but not heard about 'Essentialism'.

Fingers crossed I get them from Santa!

Focus on the things in your business that get you out of your comfort zone. Those are usually the things that should be at the front of your to-do list.

I'm actually working on my latest launch right now and when I read this I just thought "yep. 100% correct"

and it's funny because the last thread I was on had the topic of individuals who never take action on anything they learn.. irony
