Stop Learning!

OK, I that was a bit of a drastic title, I didn't mean in general, I was trying to get attention to my thread, did it work?

What I wanted to say is that there should come a time when you say "Right, I've learnt enough about this topic now to go and try something out for myself and see what happens."

Otherwise you'll never implement, you'll keep looking for more information on the subjects and just keep on going and never actually take action on what you learn.

I was on a course recently and the guy (or girl!) running the course hadn't got round to putting up some of the recent videos that were supposed to be provided on a daily basis. And while other people were frustrated and complaining (that's not the point of my post, a separate issue), I was actually thankful because I got on and began implementing what I'd learnt in the previous videos instead of watching more videos.

So make sure you get to a point where you stop learning, only temporarily, and actually implement what you've learnt about something, until you get results. And then continue to research a bit more and then implement even more. That way you will grow by doing and experiencing and get better at what you are doing.

    True, and it's a problem that goes beyond IM, isn't it? People learn too much about dieting, about exercise, about learning languages, about self-help. There's a generation of folk who know the answers to everything, but lack the key qualities of perseverance, patience and effort.

      One of the things I have learned is that you do not need to know everything in order to start taking action. And it doesn't need to be perfect. Just get it out and improve it as you get along if need be.

    That's true ... but in reality I think that for every person failing in internet marketing for not taking enough action, there are almost certainly ten (and maybe twenty) failing who are taking plenty of action but have set off in the wrong direction through not having done enough learning first.

    I accept entirely that your perspective, expressed above, also applies to some people - I just think they're a really small minority.

    Most of the people I see failing (and in an internet marketing forum, that's a lot of people) are trying to set the ball rolling without first understanding in which direction they need it to roll, and all too often without even knowing which ball it is in the first place.

    Totally Rob Harris!

    If you can't put what you are learning into action as you go, then what's the point of getting started?

    Honestly, the only way to avoid overwhelm is by learning stuff in bite sized chunks and implementing it as you go. Once you learn how to do that, then you move on to the next thing.

And then continue to research a bit more and then implement even more. That way you will grow by doing and experiencing and get better at what you are doing.

    Exactly. I feel like so many people do nothing but continue reading and reading and reading, and they never take the time to actually out any of it into action.

    Without actually doing it, money cannot be earned.

    People need to stop TRYING to learn, and to instead put into action the things that they do know. Results may not always be immediate for everything that you do, but it's better to learn from trial and error than to not learn at all.

      Great Post.... I see this a lot with my coaching clients...We teach them something, assign tasks to be done throughout the week and ask to see their results so we can help them.

      Half the time I get responses about some new shiny doo hickey they bought and how it is going to change their life.

      Fear of the unknown plays a huge factor in taking action and unless a person can overcome that fear they will keep filling their time with anything else to avoid action.

    The definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results..

    What many marketers are doing again and again is stuffing themselves with information overload and never taking action and then they're frustrated that they're not producing an income.

    The vicious circle..

    I think for a lot of people (myself included), it takes a while to wrap your mind around some of the concepts.

    Getting started in IM is also like following a road that endlessly splits into forks -- most are profitable for some people, but many are not suitable for everyone! It takes a bit of learning to figure out what floats your boat.

    I think learning about IM can be a hobby too that some people figure they'll implement "some day."

    We call those folks "customers"!

    And also "stop doing everything" if I can add to that up. Keep focusing on one thing or method first until it become settled business, then you can try other method.

    Yes there are definitely many people who have been visiting this forum for years 'learning' instead of taking action.

    But the problem is the ONLY Way to learn is by 'Doing'. By trial and error! The ONLY way.

    However, the great majority are not 'risk' takers and want to understand and see everything 'clearly' before actually getting started.

    That is like getting things perfect before actually taking any direction.

    That would drive me nuts.



    I would rather be 'Ignorance on Fire' any day than be they guy trying to get all my ducks in line.

    This happens to me all the time and I've been doing this for a couple of years now haha. Taking action will always make you more money than researching and trying to learn more and more.

    I knew where your thread was heading as soon as I saw your heading. What a genius I am

    It happened with me a lot. I kept learning and did very less. One day I told myself that's enough and here I am in the forums

    If you don't take action while learning, you forget a lot of things you learned. When you take action while learning, you understand more and you don't have to memorise. It becomes a habit. You also make mistakes. And what could be a better teacher than experience? Beware, this doesn't mean you should lose a million dollar in the name of experience

    When you learn, you know. But there is still doubts lingering. When you do, you experience, learn more and become confident.

    Thanks Rob, an excellent reminder for all of us!

    Plus the beauty of just the task of 'doing' teaches you far more through trial and error than reading ever can.

    I can tell you how to throw a curve ball. I can write an ebook full of diagrams and technique promising a career as a major league pitcher, but you will never be a pitcher just because you read my book.

    You will never throw a curve ball, not one consistently, until you go do it...consistently. And, only then can you begin practicing 'placement' of the pitch - yet more hands on learning.

    I would recommend learning about one thing a day and putting it into action in order to see results. What is the point in learning if you never use it anyways. I think for me it was a matter of learning what really works online & to stop jumping from product to product hoping that I would make a sale in 2 weeks To keep this short I will list the 5 major things I've learned from joining the forum.

    #1 You need to have a website in order to be successful & direct linking just doesn't work very well online

    #2 You need to build a list yesterday & you should have a great webform in order to build your sales leads

    #3 You need great products to sell that can range from Amazon, Clickbank, CPA, etc & these make money

    #4 You need a attractive website & alot of content if you ever want to get a good ranking in search engines

    #5 You need a way to advertise your offers online & these can range from solo ads to social media shares

    These are probably the best things to know that I can think of & then remember that you can never fail if you never give up
