PayPal in US$ - Australian based - how to charge GST?

Hi,

I sell a subscription to an online language reading course.

I use Amember as my subscription interface. I am in Australia but the currency I sell in is in US$.

The issue is that when an Australian purchases they are not charged GST (10%) to the Australian equivalent of the US$ sale price, and we land up having to pay the 10% out of the money we receive.

I phoned PayPal and they said that they cannot do a selective GST fee charge, it will be either on or off. This is no good as the purchaser from the USA is not liable to pay a tax on top of their purchase price, and quite rightly so!

I am wondering what people in a similar situation to me are doing.

I know I have purchased things from the UK and don't pay the VAT or purchases from the USA from certain states that have a tax that I do not pay either - so there is 'smarts' somewhere along the line but I am not sure where or how it is done.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

JR

Simply reduce or increase your price and complement it with a TAX when people are buying from the U.S. Those from AU won't get a discount or price reduction either way. It's a bit complicated but I've done similar things in PayPal when creating a subscription for my services.

The real issue is, what happens when guys from the U.K, NZ, Canada, etc subscribes to your service

As an example I clicked on the ad on this page and got taken to: http://myppctsunami.com/

At the bottom of the page it says: VAT applied within European Union. (paying via paypal)

So why can't I have something similar with Australian GST?
