Amazon Affiliate Cookies?

If you drive traffic to Amazon, how long will you earn commissions from that traffic?

What if they click your link, don't buy anything and log off, and then log back on a week later and buy something? Do you get credit for the purchase?

Thanks.

A simple search here picked up this recent thread. http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ffiliates.html

If you are thinking of joining Amazon head over there. Today is a great day to work on Amazon sites.

the cookie lasts for 12 hours I believe... no more then 24 hours for sure.

ebay I think is a week or a month... but they have a different system... they do give sign up bonus though and that's cool, not sure if amazon does.

Ebay (EPN)'s cookie only lasts 24 hours nowadays, So if there is anyone out there promoting stuff on EPN its best to show BIN items or items ending soon.

Thanks, they mentioned about putting an "Amazon Shopping Cart" on your site so you get 90 days if they put something in their cart and don't buy it yet. Does this require a programmer?

An Amazon cookie from a regular affiliate link lasts 24 hrs.

Anything they buy in 24 hrs after visiting your link gives you a commission.

If a visitor adds anything to their cart in that 24 hr period but does not buy, the items in the cart have a 90 day expiry period for your affiliate commission.

If you link directly to the Shopping Cart then the cookie lasts 90 days because the items are on the Shopping Cart 90 day window.

You don't need any special plugin or programming to send items to the Shopping Cart. Amazon shows how to send items directly to the shopping cart with an affiliate link here:

onSubie, let's say I did that, they added the product with my aff link to their cart and did not buy. They log in a week later, and buy $1k worth of other stuff.

--if they kept my affiliate product in their cart and bought everything along with it, do I get commission on the whole order or just my product?

--if they deleted my affiliate product in their cart before buying all the other stuff, do I still get the commission?

I do not use the direct to shopping cart option for these reasons. I don't know.

I use direct product linking with an affiliate link, I don't send to the cart.

When someone adds to cart, they get sent to their Amazon shopping cart for checkout. That doesn't really lend itself to browsing Amazon and buying other products. It puts them more in a "buy or abandon" situation.

I also use contextual links. It is a bit incongruous to send them to a filled shopping cart from that kind of link. Better to use an "add to cart" button or "buy now" button (I think) if you want to send them to the shopping cart.

Reading Amazon's terms they keep referring to the items in your shopping cart relating to the 90 days.

What isn't clear and what I would like to know more about is similar to some of your questions.

Does your commission apply to all other items added at a later date through a non-affiliate link?

If they empty the shopping cart, do you lose the 90 day cookie?

i.e. The customer comes back to shop through a non-affiliate link with an active 90-day cookie from an item in their cart. They empty their cart. They shop and add items to the now empty cart and buy.

Do you lose the commission or as long as they have any kind of cookie identifying you as the affiliate when they arrive Amazon pays?

All I know is that I am definitely getting commissions on products that did not have my affiliate link, which is awesome. Maybe Amazon has an algorithm that measures individual sessions, and credits anything the shopper buys after clicking your product affiliate link. For example, they click your product affiliate link, don't buy it, and instead click a "Related Items" link and buy something there. It seems like this would be a legitimate case for receiving credit for items outside your affiliate link (in your Reports page the "All Other Items purchased" column).

However, if they click your product affiliate link, don't buy your item, turn off their computer, and then six hours later go directly to Amazon.com and buy something, I do not believe you would get credit for it.

As has been posted: the cookie lasts 24 hrs and credits anything they buy.

So if they log off and then log on six hours later you will still get commission.

If they log off and log back on a week later you will not get the commission.

The question is: if they click on a link that sends them directly to the shopping cart with a 90- day cookie, but they do not want to buy so they empty the cart and leave Amazon, is the 90 day cookie still in place?

My guess is no. From reading Amazon's terms it seems to me the 90 day cookie is tied directly to the shopping cart. As long as the cart has items in it, there is a cookie that keeps it "alive" for 90 days. But if the cart is emptied, the 90 day cookie also dies.

But that is only my interpretation from reading Amazon's ToS.

As onSubie said above: Simple answer is 24 hours for a regular link and 90 days if added to cart.

Just make sure you're not cookie stuffing lol. Blackhat method that could land you in jail.
