Over Exposure Scenario - Will This Kill Email Marketing?

Here is my scenario!!!

Okay so you spend a ton of time building your email list.

Being careful to build a great relationship with your list so they know that you will only promote quality products and services to them.

You then promote products to your list.

Your subscribers then opt-in to the lists of the product owners you are promoting.
Who in turn begin to market to them other services.

As a result your subscribers end up opting in to even more lists and the cycle continues.

The net result is that your subscribers will eventually get so many emails that your voice is drowned out.

Does anyone have experience of this and does anyone have a different perspective or remedy.

Adele's voice cannot be drowned out no matter how many Miley Ciryus's are singing next to her. That's because Adele actually knows how to sing and has a great voice.

It's the same with email marketing: most people have no clue how to write emails for their subscribers and they all read the same. So if you are good at it and develop your own "voice", then your subscribers will hear your whispers no matter how loud these pseudo email marketers are screaming.

Bottom line? Focus on learning to write great emails, and your competitors or product owners won't stand a chance.

I like the sentiment of your reply and agree that writing good emails is essential but an not convinced that your illustration is completely accurate.

If you're implying that most marketers can write good emails then you're wrong. Just look around this forum: people actually think 20% open-rates are good. Some even see that as an achievement. If they were so good at email marketing, they would have much higher open-rates.

This is an interesting topic, and you're definately right that most of your subscribers will be on multiple lists.

However, as stated, the quality of your emails, the value you offer your subscribers and having authority in your niche definately play a big role in your success.

Just ask yourself every time you right a mail: "how will this help my subscribers?" and you should do fine imo.

And ofcourse you need to keep adding new subscribers to your list on a daily basis too.

With all due respect, I have to disagree.

What will help them, and what will help keep them reading are two different things altogether. The truth is that, writing great emails is a skill, most people don't really spend time learning it.

It's like being a parent - most people can bring a child to the world, but to raise it the right way is no easy feat. In the same way, it's not really that hard to get people on your list - but to build a real, profitable relationship has to be learnt and developed.

There are many nuances that most people will miss. I think the biggest one will be that since most people don't read and write in general, they have very little notion of how to communicate via written content.

I hate to break it to you, but they are already on a ton of lists before they get on yours.

They are also buying stuff from other people because as someone once put it: "they are not just YOUR customers".

Don't sweat it, keep promoting stuff and doing your thing.

Reciprocation is also a big part of this game. So those people you promote today may promote you down the road and the roles will be reversed.

Relationships with other sellers or anyone else with a list are the best kind of relationships to build since these people are in the position to help you grow your business quickly.
