Can anyone help with Windows Movie Maker

Hi,

Does anybody know if wimdows movie maker is any different with windows vista that with windows xp. I am changing some plr AVI files and on my vista machine it only detects the files as audio whilst the XP machine detects the actual video. My XP machine is not as powerful as my vista computer hence why I wanted to use the vista one.

Any ideas if I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Regards

Josef

Have you tried checking your settings? I read in someone's blog where they had the same issue and it turned out to be something they didn't have right in the options section. You might Google, I can't find the blog again sorry.

Thanks Traxmaker, Not sure what settings I need to look at as there isn't anything I could see about settings or options. tried googling an answer but most of the problems seem to be with cameras etc not being picked up whereas my file is detected but only as an audio. Really weird as the XP computer picks up the audio and visual part of the AVI file.

Well I didn't find the blog that was chatting on this but I found a forum where something similar was an issue. You may or may not find the thread helpful, but I thought it might be a nice starting place. Good Luck! Windows Movie Maker

I have been using Windows movie maker and its perfectly fine. What I don't know and haven't tried working on it on Vista, my OS is XP. If you can't solve this problem, try using Ulead Systems

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to be spending anymore on bits and pieces at the moment and I find altering PLR material in movie maker an absolute doddle but I was just confused as to why one system didn't pick up the video but logged it as an audio file.

Also not sure how to go from camtasia to burning onto DVD and got other things to learn first.

I will play around a bit and see what happens. No great problem if I have to keep working on the XP machine just easier to have the laptop by my side whilst doing other things.

    Regards

You can use this to determine what codec is being used in your avi file that is not on your vista system. GSpot Codec Information Appliance

This is a reported issue with Windows Vista - missing AVI codecs. You should go to the Microsoft Support website and then do a search for AVI codec. There you will find information and links to where you can download it.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but while we're on the subject of Windows Movie Maker, can anyone explain why it freezes every 5 seconds? I'm using XP and Windows Movie Maker will literally freeze up on me for no reason. Any ideas?
