Do you have your business outline on paper yet? Flow charts, costing, etc? Write a needs assessment and apply for a grant is the best way to go so you don't start out in debt. Investors can be demanding - can you meet the demands?

Grants -- Non-profits can get grants fairly easily, but you can cut to the chase for a grant if you can show how the business is planned to become self-supportive even if non-profit. Certain age/race/sex demographics can qualify for grants -- as can businesses that will improve community...such as getting a grant for a business that will bring in tourism interest, or community member involvement of some sort.

If you have a grant-worthy project, write a tear-jerker of a needs assessment, stick it on the front of your business plan, and then make sure you fill out all paperwork precisely.

If your business is capable of instant profit margin, go for the loan, but remember, you need to pay a loan back so if you can't bring in instant money, you could be cooked unless you can get deferment of payment on the loan.
