Starting As An Affiliate in Thailand Promoting Products To Thai People - Feasible?

I have this visa issue, I either have to go to school to learn Thai or start my own company with four or five Thai employees.

Don't get me wrong, no problem with the language but I truly hate school and it interrupts my working schedule, yes even when it's only 4 hours a week.

The alternative is the company with Thai employees, however most Thai speak pretty poor English, let alone write it

As most of my work is content based they won't be of much use for my current activities.

However Thailand does have ecommerce sites and affiliate programs so I could employ Thais to write content in their own language. My boyfriend could manage it / confirm that it's well written I suppose as the lazy sack does nothing all day long besides watching X-factor 24/7 and playing games on Facebook lol. Up to him, I don't care really.

Anyway, I wonder if Thai people actually shop online and I wonder if the huge amount of foreigners in this country shop online.

Thailand is not as poor as surroudning countries like Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia. Bangkok has a lot of middle and upper class as well as a ton of foreigners that make good money.

What do you think?

I think its a bad idea. Why would you want to earn Thai Baht from people in Thailand when Im sure theres more money to be made from other parts of the world. Thats the good thing about the internet, its global.
There are many groups of IMers in Thailand that you might like to contact. Try Chiang Mai Internet Marketers Group. They may be able to help you

To form a company and keep it at least break even.

Most foreigners open bars, restaurants and that's almost always a failure and besides that I can't be bothered with a business like that.

My Thai wife makes good money selling stuff on facebook to her group of Thai friends .... anything from clothes - skin whitening products - herbal treatments and even real estate ..... There is money to be made for sure, but as an affiliate? ..not so sure.

A farang friend of mine, his wife also makes good money selling on ebay through facebook....Buddha images which she ships direct.

I think the key to selling to Thai's is facebook ....

Thanks I do run daily into these whitening / herbal treatment ads from Thai friends at Facebook indeed, silly I didn't think of that, so Facebook marketing it is then.

They also have this lazada.co.th in Thailand, no idea how popular it is but once again probably need to send them from Facebook to there. Lol I just read that Lazada says that SEO traffic is not allowed, what a joke.

Wonder if Line also has a way to advertise, time to find out.

It's crazy, I know tons of people that spend thousands of bahts a month on these whiteneing creams. Maybe I should employ some people with large and popular Facebook accounts, I think I know a few or maybe better focus on paid ads to get more exposure as friends are often limited to 5000 for normal users.

Now that you mention real estate, it wouldn't be too bad to rent a small office here, same like many do, and drive traffic from Google, hire one well spoken Thai with a university degree to run it, do you know how that works? Eg is there a database we can pull clients from, as it seems many real estate offices promote the same condo's for sale and houses for rent. Need to get a finger in that pie, could be quite lucrative combined with SEO.

If I can throw a thought into the ring....

I love traveling and am currently working to create a biz that supports my dreams of working from anywhere in the world.

What I have come to conclusion on, is that we need to earn our money in the "rich" parts of the world.... such as USA, Canada, Europe, etc. and with any luck - live in the under-developed countries such as Central America and Southeast Asia have to offer. I've been to Thailand (BY FAR my most favorite country yet) and you can stretch a dollar a long way by bringing in US dollars or Euros, and living on the Baht.

Is there a way you can earn $$$ overseas, and still enjoy the perks of cheap living in Thailand? I bet there is.... (I'm still working on mine)

    Cheers and good luck!

I think you're missing the point here as I'm already doing that.

I'm looking for ways to achieve a visa through company formation and for that I need to employ 4-5 Thais and they won't be of much use to my current activities due to their lack of English writing skills.

I can't really advise you anymore than I have already, I don't speak Thai but simply help my wife occasionally when she asks. My wife is clever at marketing "herself" ie she uses pictures of herself to sell the whitening products.. she was featured on Thai TV when they became interested in her comments on facebook about herbal treatments for a particular illness, followed by radio and again TV ...

The real estate thing came about by accident. She was selling our home via facebook and other websites and put herself up as an agent ... she was contacted by someone who was looking for land .we went looking around the area for suitable land, advised the client who to contact to buy and she ended up with a nice wad in commission ... a couple of hundred thousand Thb and it's gone on from there ... she has now a circle of "agent" friends and they all help each other sharing commissions.

It aint what you know....it's who you know! ..... would she be successful if she decided to set up an office.... couldn't say.

    Any way .good luck

Thais's definitely prefer to do business based on recommendations from friends & family, same applies when they're looking to buy a motorbike.

In case I would deal with real estate I would personally focus more on foreigners though, they do search in Google and 9 out of 10 of the real estate office here in Pattaya (where I live) are owned by foreigners with a Thai employee (maybe their partner) which is often fluent in English as well. Though nowadays Russia and China seem to be the new gold here.
