Do you hide your website from others?

i have a main personal website thinking if i should link my few other websites to it under the showcase section.

For the whois part -
1) domain proxy or buy a po box?
Do you buy whois private registration to protect your information? with whois, underlying information could you write a fake one? Dont wish to put my information over the web.
with a po box, is like your personal address, people could trace all the website you own.
2) must the address be full? could it be just a generic term like country "USA"?
3)How does domain by proxy works? after you purchase, they provide you a common generated info(name, address, etc) and you update to your domain manually? Do they keep track the people who purchase their service? or anyone can just use their generated information for their domain?

Just get privacy protection from where you registered your domain. Most every registrar offers it for a few bucks extra.

I wouldn't create fake info for your domain registration, if you have have trouble and need to prove it's your domain, how will you if the info is fake?

Whois services only pull data for the domain registration, so you can't actually change whois information, they are just displaying the information

You really must not use fake info for your domain registration, it is completely illegal to do so - all domain services will warn you to update or correct your info annually.

Keeping your registration private only costs a few bucks a year and is worth it to avoid unscrupulous 'renewal' emails and spammy offers for domain names that are close to yours.

Using fake info is a risk because it violates new ICANN policies and can get your domain locked. Although enforcement seems weak as many marketers still use pseudo info.

Privacy is good and Namecheap offers it free for the first year on every domain. Other places privacy is about the same as registration $7-10/yr.

    Thanks guys for your info,

i heard that in case of domain dispute/ icann, domain with privacy does not have your personal information when they look up, and it belong to the private registration, you might have a issue here, correct me if i am wrong.

Could i use virtual address on my domain whois? does the domain still belong to me although i rent a address?

      No that is not correct.

Privacy just hides the public disclosure of your personal contact information. It means anyone who wants to reach the domain owner has to go through the privacy contact (usually the registrar).

The true owner identity, contact and billing information is still disclosed and known to the registrar.

In the case of an ICANN dispute, it is the actual owner not the privacy contact who would be involved.
