Hubpages and squidoo... send traffic to those as well.

In my opinion things like facebook and myspace can get you some quick traffic but do not really help long term. It depends on what you are marketing also. If you're marketing some sort of upto date music single for example then I think social sites are good for this. If it was something quite in-depth and an investment then I have tried in the past and it didn't work for me.

Youtube is good for ranking quickly and long term, the middle stages are a bit awkward. What i mean by this is that google will rank your vid quite well within the first 24 hours. But then after that it will get a bit forgotten about and slowly pick up traffic. But then, once about 3 months rolls by traffic starts to get pretty high resulting in more and more people watching your video. Depending on your keyword also!

    Hope this helps,

    YM

Great detail. Thank you for your input. I'm working on a Youtube channel now with some new videos.

Thanks for all your input. Anyone else? Come on, let's help each other out here. What are you doing that's different and effective?

It depends on your market and where your market is "hanging out"

Trying to market the latest indie band on LinkedIn would probably be a waste of time, but you would kill it on MySpace.

Actually there are two different approaches to Web 2.0. Using them strictly for SEO purposes and using them to build a following. Both strategies have merit, but you implement the strategies differently.

Short term strategies for good SEO rankings:
Simply post your content on the following sites and bookmark them:
    1. Video sites -- YouTube being the most important
    2. Article sites -- EzineArticles, Squidoo, HubPages and Scribd
    3. Podcasts

Long-term strategies involve giving lots of value so people want to follow you:
    1. YouTube -- develop your channel out, build a subscriber base
    2. Twitter -- there are a ton of success stories coming out of Twitter. If you provide good content and attract and find a good following -- some of the friend adding tools can help, don't waste your time on most of the follow me and I'll follow you back lists you'll just get spammed to death.
