pros and cons of capture paypal email address

Warriors,

I'm thinking of using script to capture my buyers email address instead of the opt-in email.

Is this good ideas? Will this higher or lower the open rate?

Anyway, i'm in IM niche.

Hope to hear some good advices here.

thanks in advance.

No - not at all, Jason: if you're making a sale to someone, you're perfectly allowed to send them email, after they're your customer, which is why many autoresponder service companies allow people to be "automatically added" to lists under such circumstances. (Of course, you still have to be fully Can-Spam compliant in all the aspects of whatever you send them.)

Normally, yes ... but not if they're buying from you.

Your conversions will be significantly higher when you capture the pay-pal address and build your own buyers list.

or ask them to opt-in with their own preferred email address for receiving email, in case those two email addresses are not the same.

            1. Yes, it's a good idea. A lot of people in the IM niche use multiple emails. Generally, their primary email is the one connected to paypal.

            2. Your open rate will depend on how you interact with them. If you start sending advertisements right away, you'll most likely see your open rates drop, or people unsubscribing from your list.

Exactly right. You should start with a fairly simple "Thank You" email, since they just purchased something from you anyway!

This gives you the chance to introduce yourself on a slightly more personal level, and let them know that you will be sending them extra information that is related to the product/service they just purchased.

You should also let them know that they can unsubscribe from your list at any time, and explain how.

An extra bonus: Let them know how to contact you, in case they have any questions. Questions you receive can inspire new content that could benefit your entire list. Don't do this if you plan on ignoring the people asking questions, or don't have the time to answer.

Depending on what autoresponder you use - you can set this up with PayPal.

They integrate with Aweber, Getresponse and Mailchimp - and I'm sure others as well.
