Just pick a good product to promote with lots of broad appeal (high traffic niches + impulse buys are perfect)... advertise it where the people who'd buy it likely are, and qualify the traffic by making them take AN ACTION (opting in, clicking through a link, etc...) and then make the pitch to only the qualified traffic. People buy because of emotion, so mix emotion with SOLID content that would be helpful to them. Also, never surprise people with sales pages. You are never going to sell anything if you direct all your cold traffic to a lame Clickbank offer.

      Tym,

I was where you are a week ago. I decided to start real simple:
      1. I got an affiliate account at Clickbank and chose a product and keywords
      2. I wrote an article and submitted it to Ezinearticles
      3. I registered a domain
      4. I got hosting for the domain
      5. I set up a redirect from the domain to the affiliate offer and put the link to the domain in the article resource box
      6. When my article is approved, I will backlink the article
      7. I will write more articles for the same offer and keep backlinking.
      8. I will evaluate and figure out where to go from there.
If you've been learning for a year, all these step should be doable. They can definitely all be found here on at Warrior Forum.

Thank you this was great steps! Did you have a hard time pining down your niche?

Actually, I did the niche/product steps reversed to what most suggest. I selected a niche and product I was comfortable with and knew a little something about first so I could write my articles easier. Then I found long tail key words, which weren't optimal as far as monthly searches and competition, but at least I got started.

For me it was the article writing that was my blocking point. By selecting a niche I was comfortable with, the first draft was actually very easy to write. I purposely did not go into too much detail in my steps to you, but I also plan to spin the articles and submit to the other article sites after they're accepted by ezinarticles. Again, this should be pretty easy since I'm very interested in the niche.

When I'm set with this niche, I'll need to learn another skill, researching a niche I do not know too much about. Then keep adding skills as I go along so I can implement some of the finer points of article marketing. That's the plan anyways.

It sounds like you just need to get moving. If you have been researching IM for a year, then you have to know something about IM by now. Just start small. Find a product you want to promote. Research the keywords. Then write articles based off of those keywords and setup a simple program. Rome wasn't built overnight, and IM works the same way.

If you still don't know where to begin after a year, then maybe this isn't for you. After spending a little time here, my mind is just spinning with a thousand different things I want to do. IM is not necessarily for everyone. Some people just don't take action, and some people can't wait to take action! I don't know what category you fall into, but i would pick one way to make money and stick with it for awhile. You might be surprised with the success you have.

Why don't you start by trying to make a simple Adsense site? Pick a niche and create a simple 10 page website by choosing 10 longtail keywords within the niche and then writing a page of quality content for each keyword. Once your site is uploaded then work on building links to the site, both the homepage and the inner pages. You can use Angela's links to get started. You can also pick 5 more longtail keywords from your niche and write an article about each one. Then submit each of those articles to a couple of directories with links pointing back to your site. It may only get you a few cents a day in clicks, but once you start seeing gains it will give you more motivation to continue.

    Stop reading, take action!

If you've been reading for a year on IM you have enough knowledge to accomplish the above. Don't worry about making mistakes or not making a lot of money with your first site. Just build the site, start to market it, and learn what works for you!

P.S. If you don't think the above works, that's how I got started three years ago. Then I slowly starting adding to my 10 page site until it grew and grew until it was making about $1000/mo. I finally decided to sell it in December to focus on other sites and I got $20,000 for it.

  • There are lots of low cost courses and coaching on offer from warriors here, why not start doing something like that where you have someone to encourage you as you get started? for me it works better to join a coaching group or a challenge so I actually get things done, rather than just keep reading about getting things done.

Well my first point to you is make your posts easier to read.

Use paragraphs. NOT one LONG joined up post that is hard to read assimilate and understand.

You can't see the forrest for the trees because you are, quite honestly, not looking in the right direction.
Stop buying every WSO, special report..... signing up to each new free offer. These are only money takers and time wasters.

You need a solid plan to put things together. Good. Here is your assignment for the week.

    1. Decide what it is that YOU want.
    2. Go fnd how you can acheive what YOU want.
    3. Find a decent web reseller account that you can afford.
    4. Register domain names as and when you can afford them.
    5. Build sites on those domain names... any kind of sites, authority sites, review sites, wordpress blogs....... whatever..... just go get on with it and do it.
    6. Make sure you can link payment buttons to your sales pages for your products.
    7. Make sure that if you are just being an affiliate for others products, your affiliate links are working on the order pages.
    8. Start building your own mailing list..... you know about squeeze pages don't you?
    9. Decide what it is that YOU want.

    Rinse and repeat..............

Study who YOU think is successful, not from their postings here, but from their site stats, use the tools that are available, google, alexa, wayback machine etc.

You will be surprised at what you find.

And remember "All that glitters is not Gold".

Yes, you need help, but the only person to really help you is yourself.

    Stop trying, and start doooooooooing!

Good luck and Get on with it.

The first thing to consider is that to succeed in business for yourself, you have to be a self-starter. I mean that there is no supervisor or boss leaning over your shoulder to tell you to start work, so you need to be able to start working on your own. Some folks can and a few more can learn to, but some folks never do get the handle on it.

I'd suggest you do what I did. Find something that looks like you want to try it, then go buy the domain name and order up some hosting. Then, when you start putting your business together, you can come back here and ask questions if things start getting confused. You can't let fear keep you from moving.

I hear ya. I was the same way a year ago, ebook after ebook. Now, I've got a path to follow, and got lots of ideas in my heads.

I would go with Steve Weber's RealWebsite Pro. Really good stuff on how to build your website that is search engine friendly. He explains SEO from Google's point of view about what to do and not do. What makes a good website rankable or not. Completely eye-opening. If you haven't mastered SEO or have a good understanding of it, then you can't really proceed forward.

Wish I had known this a year ago.

Steve's very helpful. And he's from Oklahoma, too.

You should find something that Interests you, stick with that and take some serious action, alot of people make the same mistake by bouncing around from one idea to the next and don't get anywhere.

If after you have done all you can with your first method and it's just not that profitable for you then you can move on to something else and try that. You will normally end up trying a few things before you find the right method for you.

    All advice here is spot-on.

I've been thinking about an internet business for over a year and after a few failed attempts, decided to sign up for a coaching program to get going.

I, too, was often overwhelmed by the stuff I read and the amount of things that seemed to be missing.

Through coaching, I was able to go step-by-step through the process of product creation and setting up an internet business. It's been great and the site is finally live.

One thing I learned, that no matter how much money anyone promises you, these things take time to build. Your first attempts may fail but you will learn in the process and once you get it figured out, you'll be on your way to something.

You just need to get moving and stop thinking about it. And, don't expect immediate success.

    Hope this helps, amy

    Tym,

I just posted a thread about the mistake(s) I made in my first month Not sure if it will help, but here it is.

I guess I am newbier than you, if you've been reading for a year.

Still i feel I have one piece of advice for you.

    KISS
    (KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID.)

Forget all those detailed eBooks on how to make a million dollars.

Just build ONE website(in a niche you like or think has a demand), put the best damn stuff there, give away(give for free) what other people are selling and make sure people going there are signing up.

So ALL you are doing is trying to build a list.

Stop your head-spinning, stop reading, stop analysing and over-thinking, stop spending money(if you are) and just build the best site in some niche with NO intention other than to build a list.

Once you have a list of 2000 or more, come back here and ask the Warriors what you should do with your list (presuming you don't know).

    Viva le list!

Hey, I just found a list of steps I copied from here.
You find step by step, how to start posts all through this forum but this one is one that appealed to me.
Credit should go to the OP, but I can't remember who it was.
Anyway, it was a post to help people starting out and I think it's one of the best as far as being staright forward and not leaving gaps.

    Hope it helps:

    1. Find a hot niche. There are many ways to do this, using everything from Google Trends to Twitter Trends, searching eBay and Amazon top sellers, or even just seeing what is hot on Clickbank. Try to focus on smaller sub-sections of bigger niches. For example, instead of "home electronics", try "satellite TV systems". Smaller market within a bigger marker, but satellite TV systems still sell very well online.

    2. Find an affiliate product. Actually, you'll want to find a few. In markets like satellite TV, go for big brand names with affiliate programs on CPA networks as well as info products - the brand recognition and high conversion rate will help you make more sales. Don't just focus on high commission offers, either. 10% of 100 sales is better than 75% of none - make sure you look at the conversion rate, too.

    3. Now you want to research your keywords. This is a long, hard process for many niches... You have to dig down and find out which keywords are getting the most search engine traffic with the least competition and the highest ad cost (highest ad cost because that means people are making money from it already!) There are tools and membership sites that can do these kinds of things for you, but since I'm focusing on free methods here, just do the best you can with Google's Keyword tool and other keyword tools available for free online.

    4. Find content for your newsletter or a free report. You can use PLR for this, its pretty easy - especially when you get into smaller niches, because chances are, no other IMer has used THAT PLR product in THAT particular niche. Most people go broad - you're going small, mean, and lean, then expanding out. If you don't have the money for PLR, try just writing an informative newsletter first. Once you've made some affiliate sales, buy a PLR product and offer it to your subscribers as a free bonus with links to more affiliate products.

    5. Write articles and posts (or use PLR) that are related to your small niche. You can even outsource these if you want, but once again, focusing on free methods means writing them yourself. Make them keyword rich, of course, but remember - it isn't just the search engines that will be reading them. Make them readable for human beings, too! Get 5 or 6 different articles and posts together, then move on to the next step...

    6. Find a domain name & hosting, and then start a Wordpress blog. Don't think I need to go into TOO much detail for this one, just pick a reliable host, a relevant domain name (or a generic one and use subdomains for each blog you'll make) and install Wordpress. If you don't know how to do that, there are lots of resources around to help!

    7. Create a landing page. This can be an actual landing page (separate from your site) or an opt-in on your blog. Separate landing pages work better with this method, but the choice is yours. Make your copy persuasive, short, and to the point. Give the prospect every reasonw hy they should hand over their email address in exchange for what you're offering - make it look like a no brainer to pay $97 for what you're giving, and then tell them it's free. Tip - try to get your opt-in above the fold. It does wonders for conversion, unless you have a proven template that works better

    8. Turn your articles into blog posts. Post them on your blog using keyword rich titles. Pretty simple to do, if you need help I'm sure you can find info in the Wordpress manual or forums.

    9. Link your blog posts to your opt-in page (this is why a separate page works best.) Don't just say "hey, you could sign up here..." You need to have a call to action! "Click here now to get FREE info on blah blah!!!"

    10. Setup an autoresponder account. The choice of autoresponder is really personal preference, there are dozens of threads on this forum discussing them so choose which one suits your needs and your budget best.

    11. Write your promotional emails using the content from earlier. Add in links to the affiliate programs you found earlier, with a real call to action ("Click here to get blah blah now!") You want to give as much useful information as you possibly can, but still offer that little bit more with your affiliate products.

    12. Add your free report (if applicable) to free ebook sites. Link this version of your free report back to your blog. Submit to as many ebook directories as you can.

    13. If you have PLR to any software, now is the time to use it. Upload the software to software directories, with a link back to your blog. Submit to as many as you can.

    14. Submit your newsletter to ezine directories.

    15. Blog about your new report, newsletter, & software.

    16. Use social bookmarking to tag all of the above - every blog post, every submission to a directory, and every trackback you get.

    17. Create a quick video version of your ebook. Upload it to YouTube. Link it back to your blog. Use social bookmarking to bookmark your video.

    18. Make a post on your blog about your video and embed it. Bookmark the video.

    19. Ping your blog using Pingoat or Pingomatic.

    20. Watch the traffic roll in! Tweak your landing page and emails until you get a conversion rate that you're happy with, and then start over again in another niche.

Give it a couple of months, and you should be making a half-decent income from these steps.

So there you have it... I could have fluffed that up into an ebook and sold it, I could have turned that into a WSO, I could have even made it into a seminar - but I didn't. I put it here so you guys can put that info to good use.

And that, right there, is why.

    1. What are you passionate about or at least interested in?
    2. Research to see if it is a profitable niche.
    3. Build a website making sure you SEO it and collect list opt-ins from day 1
    4. Ideally make, or have made a product, or find products to promote
    5. Use PPC and other free methods such as articles, social, forums to start acquiring visitors.

Keep going whatever happens and do not be obsessed with monthly income - it will come.

Of course you will need to learn PPC, article marketing, list building etc, bt all the information is right here in these forums.

    Tym,

Unless I misunderstood your post - I think you and I are in some ways alike. My problem is that I keep getting excited about new things and rarely finish what I start (I have tons of books at home - most of them I never finished reading).

After studying my-messed-up-self for almost 4 decades I finally figured out what is wrong with me after I started using an expensive pen. Here is what happened:

I used to notoriously lost pens. Sometimes I would buy a few a week and then they would disappear. Then, one day my good friend gave me this awesome and expensive pen. Guess what - I have been using it for a few years now - I never lost it! So, I finally came to this conclusion: I reach satisfactory results when I have the right motivation.

So, if you think you might have the same problem - this is what I would do if I were you:

Find a good Internet Marketing course by a good, reputable IM Goober and make sure it is so expensive that you can just barely afford it. Then, sign up for it, pay for the first month (it should be so expensive that you can't afford paying for the whole thing at once) and you are much more likely to stick to it - IF YOU ARE LIKE ME.

Aha - and unsubscribe from all those lists or at least don't read any emails that might get you too excited about something new!

I've done it and I am glad I did - at last I finished something - and learned tons of good stuff!

    I hope this helps!

I personally wasted literally thousands of hours and many hundreds (ok, Thousand ) of dollars when I first started online.

If you follow the steps below you will be on your way to a successful long term business.

1). Get an affiliate account at Clickbank and chose a product in a niche that interests you.

2). Do some in depth keyword research

3). Registered a domain based on one of your most profitable keywords

4). Get hosting for your domain

5). Start by setting up a redirect from the domain to the affiliate offer

6). Write at least three articles and submit them to Ezinearticles. Be sure to focus on one of your most profitable key words for each article (use a keyword density of 1.75% t0 2%) and don't forget to add a resource box and one call to action then link your article to your redirected website.

7). While waiting for your article to be approved start building your website. Use a
template and try to create content for at least thirty pages. Focus each page on a profitable key word from your key word research using about the same key word density of not more than 2.5%.

8). Setup an autoresponder account. And follow up email series

9). Create a report or an ebook or whatever that you can offer to your opt-in list
get rid of your redirect and set up your website.

10). Write at lest 3 more articles for article directory submission and get them submitted. Each article should again be focused on a specific key word.

11). TAKE A DAY OFF! Do something that will let you completely forget about your business hoe the entire day!

12). Upload your website and go live. Don't forget to remove your redirect

13). Start setting up you social media network. Wordpress.com, Squidoo.com, Tumbler.com etc. and don't forget Twitter.com
Each site in your network should have a unique key word focused article with a 1 call to action and one link pointing back to you website. It is ok to spin some of your earlier articles here.

14). Start tweeting at leas 3 times each day and continue to expand your social media network.

15). Start building some backlinks to both your articles and your expanding social media network.

The list goes on but these steps will get you started and making some $$$
Once you are earning a few bucks you can start outsourcing some of the more tedious aspects of your business and start investing in some of the more expensive forms of advertising.

This is what has worked for me every time.

Looking forward to hearing about your success!

      Robert,

Wow, thanks for the detailed response! This helps.

I guess I really need to focus on steps 2 & 5 through 7 this is were I feel I have not really played much attention to.

      Thanks again.

This forum is full of information on that. Use the search and you'll come up with some great advice and inspiration.

From my own experience you have to follow a solid system. Step by step and be as much focused as possible. Stop wasting your money on numerous systems. Get to work and be persistent. Good luck.

You need to offer something of value. Do you have anything to offer? Do you know how to create something valuable? If not, can you find something of value made by someone else and resell it yourself? Becoming an affiliate means becoming a small fish in the food chain. I don't recommend you do that.

You need a way to distribute the value you want to offer. Do you know how to put a website up and running? If not, you don't need any ebook to teach you how. Simply search Google on how to install a wordpress blog or create any other type of site.

You need a way to attract people and convince them of the value you're offering. Most IM products will focus on this will neglecting other important parts.

You're failing because you're looking for an opportunity. You need to start thinking about it from a businessmen perspective, not an opportunity seeker. The only problem you're trying to solve is "how do I make money" while you should be thinking from the perspective of your potential customer. What problems do they have and how can you solve them?

      King Tyrus,
you are soooo right, I have not been trying to find a customer base to help. I have been doing exactly what you said and that is thinking "how do I make $$$$"

I definatly need to work on that and get an understanding of what I have to offer to make others lives better.

      Thanks for your post!

I would really recommend that you know how to setup blogs first. This is the best way to learn, even basic HTML which you really do not need it starting out but you may later as you start to sell ads.

I personally feel it will be more practical to focus on ONE model and take action on it.

There will definitely be some reactions and it will be much better than not doing anything.

    1. Think of a topic that interests you
    2. Use Google's keyword tool to explore the topic
    3. Pick a keyword with reasonable traffic but low competition
    4. Search the keyword and have a look at the top sites
    5. Check the strength; content, backlinks, commerciality
    6. Find an affiliate product (Amazon or something)
    7. Put up a free site to test the market
    8. Write 4 or 5 articles
    9. Post them on your site plus links to your product
    10. Rewrite a couple of the posts and submit to article directories
    11. Find a few forums and blogs relevant to your niche
    12. Post and comment leaving links anchored in your keyword
    13. Track your sites ranking and traffic
    14. Create your own domain if it seems to work

Here is my advice on what you should be doing. And I am sure it has been said here but oh well. Stop reading NOW, take the information you already have, pick one, and roll with. Don't worry about not know ALL the details because you will never know all the details. You just have to start it and learn as you go. Start RIGHT NOW and don't look back.

Pick one thing (one product) and then one method of promotion and just DO it until you've done all you can. Then try other methods until you've done as much as you can with each of them. Then, go back over those methods a few days later and see if you can further your efforts.

    Then, do it again.

I know that's kind of vague--the important thing here is to just pick something and DO it. You don't have to try everything at once. You'll learn more from doing than from reading and some of the lessons will apply to other niches, methods, and products as well.

Just pick something and DO it and you'll be on you way!

(I know how hard this can be because I used to have the same problem myself. What if I didn't start off doing the best thing? Well, you probably won't do the best thing when you start off--but you WILL get a lot closer to doing the best thing. You won't get any closer to doing the best thing if you're just sitting around "preparing to prepare", as someone mentioned above.)

My own experience is very similar.

Lots of reading, downloading free stuff, buying stuff etc.

Then about a month ago, after a particularly frustrating day, decided that I had to DO SOMETHING instead of reading about doing something.

So I unsubscribed from a lot of lists who send me the 'very best and easiest' way to making a fortune, deleted a lot of the downloaded stuff from my hard drive and set about learning how to build and publish a website.

I have to say that, as a technophobe, this was an uphill challenge. But thanks to a lot of help and advice I received on this forum, I did it!

I will be spending a little time each day making it better as I learn new stuff, but at least I now have a platform from which to market my own particular skill.

I am now working on learning html.

What have I learned from this? Take small focused steps, one at a time and complete one project before starting another.

I wish you the best of luck

    Regards

    Karen
