Load your webpages instantly. For free.

Hi guys,

I'll start saying that speed matters. Many studies show that a slow page means revenue loss, it's as simple as that.

Why ? Because people don't like slow websites, and a percentage of those people, that are potential customers or list members, leave the website before it evens loads !

And also because slower loadtimes also harms position in search engines.

With that in mind, there are many factors that influence the speed of a website. Among those :
  • The hosting company/package you use, obviously
  • The weight of your pages
  • The number of requests to display to your pages
  • And some others, but let's keep it simple

So how can I load my pages instantly, and for free ?

Here's the good news. A free script known as Instantclick has been developped by a clever dude named Alexandre Dieulot.

What it does is simple : it starts loading the page before the user actually clicks the link to that page.

How it does it is the clever part : when a visitor puts his mouse cursor on a link, the script starts loading the page. According to Alexandre, "200 to 300 ms" usually pass between hovering of the link and actual clicking. You can test that here yourself.

Anyway, I've been using this on a site of mine, and it's pretty amazing.

I'm not sure this will help search engines position, but it WILL improve user experience, meaning you won't lose all these people leaving your website because it feels slow !

Get it here :

Non-Wp
Wordpress plugin (sweeet, free plugin)

You should know that install doesn't always work out of the box, so do your testing right.

In my case it didn't for example. For some reason, minifying all my JS and CSS fixed that. Again, sweeet.

Have fun with those fast pages of yours !

I agree. I'm going to try this out. But for me I think it's going to come down to upgrading the server.

What if I just go over the link with a cursor but don't want to visit the page behind? Does it slow down loading of existing page?

Anyway .... I just tested it Test your click speed - InstantClick a few times.

Getting similar results. The idea is good but in my opinion it just adds to bloat...I prefer stripping/optimizing html and css manually.

To be honest, I don't know how it performs on poor performance or saturated server.

However, it's worth noting that it WILL add some load to your server, as the script preloads the new page even if users end up not clicking the link.

If I understand you're post right, the answer is no, it won't slow the page you're currently on, as it's alreadly loaded.

However, same as above, it will trigger more load on your server, as it preloads the new page.

As for your last sentence, we still need to do this kind of optimization, but you'll have a hard time beating the instant feel this script adds to your users experience.

    This was a cool script.

I added it to my site and noticed instant results seeing as my site is an image based theme. I did however notice that my sliders for my pictures did not load the first time around. Something to do with the script only loading the first image on the slider but not any of the images after. So I would have to reload the page. I'd like to figure out how to make that work because my loading times were noticeably reduced and I have plans for several more pages to be added.

    Thanks for the find.

You need to tell the script which other js scripts it should "blacklist".

Instructions to do so can be found here : Blacklisting in InstantClick

I have to say that I'm not a js expert, so I can't really help more. Sorry about that buddy.

      EDIT : I'm sending you a PM.

I am not an expert either but I will definitely take a look.

And, again, thanks for taking your time to help me and my site, which is no where near completed.

Whoah, great find thanks for this (literally thanked).

I am going try this out on a shared server let's see how it will perform.
