Lighting For Whitewall Videos?

I have bought everything except the lighting for the videos. I can't seem to find what kind of lights to buy, where to put them etc. I need to know different options on what will work best. Prices etc.

Google for "home video lighting" or "basic video lighting".

You can find YouTube videos and articles about basic lighting.

A simple set-up uses 3 lights to light the scene, background and performer. Lighting a scene for video is aimed at:

    1) Lighting the scene for proper exposure
    2) Lighting the subject
    3) Eliminating shadows

The main thing to look for is bad shadows. Look for where the lights overlap and make sure they aren't making crossing shadows or double shadows.

You can buy photo/video lights from a camera supply pretty cheap or you can do-it-yourself.

When using artificial light you will want to do a "white balance" so the lighting appears natural when viewed on video. Without this the light and video could be tainted with off-color lighting.

I know I was looking around and still kind of confused. See some people using led, some making their own, etc. I guess I will look around a bit more! Thanks

I think a lot of that has to do with budget and personal preference or experience than any one type of light or system being better than another.

There are lots of good "how to" videos on YouTube so you can see what would be best for you.

It also depends on what you are using the videos for.

Even big budget production companies make "low budget" looking videos because that seems to work for marketing.

Things like bad camera shake, unprofessional lighting and natural settings (living room/back yard) are used to make the videos appear to be home videos or amateur point-of-view videos.
