It's not required, but why not? If you're serious about your business, then put a face to your brand.

I think it is a must but I am sure you could build a relationship with an alias. The important part is to build and maintain the relationship so you can create repeat customers and hopefully fans that will share your works with their friend and associates. Best of Luck!

If you are marketing in multiple unrelated niches it can be counterproductive to use your "real" photo and name. Branding is far more effective, and the use of pen names, aliases, and even whole personas are often carefully crafted by marketers to meet the needs of targeted buyers who want to "know" them personally. This "personalization" of brands is a powerful marketing technique for maximizing conversion rates, and actually it's quite a common practice especially where the competition is more intense.

No. You don't have to. Your visitors will purchase from you whether they know you or not.

I don't use my real name to sell books or products, and I sell plenty of them. I do, however, use pen names to sell my books and branding to push products. It's all about building a relationship and gaining trust. The more trust you're able to establish, the more products you'll sell...

    Who here shops at Amazon?

    (Without looking it up)
Do you know the name of the owner?
Do you know what the owner looks like?
Do you have some sort of relationship with the owner?

The point is: People will buy what they need, when they need it.
It's our job to show them what they need, and why they need it.

Your name and looks are useless information when it comes to a buying decision.
Being friendly helps keep things moving smoothly. But, that doesn't mean you have to be best friends with everyone you sell to.

It's your attitude that counts! Not your name/looks.

I do. Photo and pen-name, not real name. But that's the same thing (better, in some ways).

It's just as easy to "brand" a pen-name as a real name, and of course part of the point about a pen-name is that the people seeing/using it don't know that it's a pen-name anyway: to them, it's a real name, and that's what matters.
