How can I promote a dating site?

I started a dating site for mature people and I think it's really good. How can I get the word out there on it?
I've started writing articles but they haven't been accepted yet.

I'd like to do something like offer a prize of like $500 to a lucky member and once I hit 10k members then just pick a name and give it away. Or a monthly prize of $100 to a random member to help spread the word.
But I dont know how to spread the word on that.

I live in Boston and could market it to local Boston people but it would be expensive to run ads in the paper or on radio so dont want to do it if I cant afford it.

I'd love any ideas, or to work with someone who can help me market it.

    We had good luck with newspaper ads (tiny classifieds) and horrible luck with radio ads. Those were a really dumb idea lol.

      Thank you very much! Now I have a million questions

      We have the Boston Globe, The Boston herald, the Metro (free newspaper at commuter stops), and small local towns papers. We also have the Boston phoenix which is adult listings.
      Of course the big papers are the most expensive.
      Any suggestions on where I should go?
      And just put in a tiny classified ad? Should I do a photo too?

      btw my site is free, it has to be free since no one is on it and i need to build membership. So I dont know if theres a specific method or wording I should use since its free.

    you can promote your dating site through the following ways.

    1. article submission
    2. classified posting
    3. Email marketing
    4. forum posting

    Find your target market - and let them know about your site.

    This means finding cheap ways to advertise to your target market.

    If they are a mature audience, think about what sort of forums they may participate in and - go there and participate.

    Find books they read - advertise in them - Reader's Digest?

    Find where they shop - and pin a notice on the notice board in their supermarket.

    Basically, think about where they particpate - and make sure you get their attention.

    3 questions
    1. Is there more information about classified ads, or a WSO I can buy? Since its expensive to do I don't want to "wing it", I want to read something to give me a good idea about how to do it.

    2. Where can I hire people to post on forums?

    3. How can I do email marketing if I dont have a list yet? Do I buy a list, or advertise in someone else's list?
