How do I start my career as an internet marketer?

Ok, I always will recommend to newbies to join a coaching program.

Your coach/mentor will work with you every step of the way of your online business and guide you.
I was in your shoes not too long ago and I think i spent over $600 on products that never work (aka shiny object syndrome). So i would say save yourself the time and stress, and go with a coach.

But be careful cause there are some "not so good" coaching programs out there.

If you would like some recommendations on some good programs, just let me know. There are some coaching programs out there that just don't sit well with me. They are unethical and dishonest.
I can't tell you their names on the forum, but they are some of the more well known programs out there.

Clickbank might not be the best place to start, not with paid traffic anyway.

If you really want to kick things off with paid traffic, try some low-paying CPA offers with some cheap clicks from Bing Ads. That way you've got a good chance of breaking even and you won't blow a fortune if things don't go quite as well as you'd hoped.

Competition for Clickbank products on PPC tends to be fairly strong, so it's definitely not something you should do when starting out.

Your best start as a internet marketer is to get as much information as you possible get and the best place for that are SEO forums like warrior for example. Knowing stuff that other people don't know means $$$ in this business!

I see many people out there (same me) start with clickbank, but usually they was disappointed because of lack of knowledge....

Ok you must start somehow and make mistakes...
If you do nothing, if you sit and you stay quiet and you’re afraid to make a mistake,
well, you’re just not going to learn very fast.
If you have guidance, your progress is faster, and when you see progress you get momentum which result to success...

Without this momentum people usually give up and stop pushing, what is the biggest problem in our industry... the average in this industry is that only 5% make money.

So I suggest you that you threat this as a business, start with right foundation and don't try little here and little there...

Find an online business model that you find suitable for you, then learn the basics and start applying. It's a long learning curve however the more you try the more you learn. Then it's all about sticking to it until it works and you make money.

You can do it like me and learn by trial and error.

When I first got started in this industry, I bought into a top tier direct sales business.

I got started with the first level product that cost $1,500 and was required to pass up my first two sales to my sponsor / coach.

This guy's name was Craig and he was already a Millionaire before IM.

Craig was making over $10,000 per month with his Online business but decided to call it quits because of his primary offline business.

This guy made millions by starting up brick and mortar companies, getting them profitable and then selling them for big bucks. So his online income of 10K was an absolute joke compared to his main stream income.

Craig quit marketing by my second month of getting into this industry while I was 'still' very green.

Before he quit, he gave me a link to Perry Marshall's FREE Email course on how to 'master' Google Adwords.

So there I was on my own with a free 5 day email course that lead up to a 97 dollar Ebook by Perry Marshall on how to advertise on Google Adwords.

I bought the book and started following Perry's advice.

Can you picture this?

I was a guy that used to 'shift' gears for a living driving an 18 wheeler semi truck in Canada to 'trying' to figure out how to become successful marketing big ticket products that started at $1,500 right up to $21,000.

I was only 'positioned' at the $1,500 entry level product that would make me $1,000 after I passed up my first two sales to my sponsor who eventually quit because he was already making a lot of money off line.

I don't know why Craig ever got into IM in the first place because the guy was already a millionaire.

Anyway, I ended up rolling up to Craig's sponsor - a guy by the name of Orsini who held the record in this big ticket top tier direct selling company for the leader with most duplication on his team.

2- Find a good system that has the potential to make BIG profit. full of training and a leader to 'Coach' you to success!

Many newcomers assume that Clickbank is the 'easy' option as it requires no product development; just put up a few links and promote the product. But, it takes so much more effort than just putting up a link or banner to make a sale, especially when your job as an affiliate is warming up the prospect before they visit the main site.

If you have no experience with this presell process, you won't earn money at affiliate programs.

If you would like to sell Clickbank items or anything affiliate related, you should take time to read any affiliate based blog out there. Just Google the term, 'affiliate tips' and see what comes up.

You will learn more there from seasoned professionals who have actually earned money in selling.

Getting a coach is good advice, if that is not an option you need to do your research and really understand the fundamentals of this business before spending money on traffic such as ppc, ect. or it will be a very frustrating and expensive learning curve.

The best two ways in which to be reasonably successful with any worthy Clickbank products is a healthy and responsive email list and decent Google keyword/phrase rankings for the relevant products.

If you have or enjoy both of the above then you should do well, but without either well............

Get your own website where you show yourself and review the product for your audience.

Then just work with pay per click companies to get as much traffic on a daily basis.

Couple of poinots:

1. Ideally you have used the CB product yourself and can share first-hand experiences...this works best because you are able to provide an "insider" view of the product, it's application and results.

2. You want to setup a sales funnel and THAT is what you want to send traffic toward...within your sales funnel you can recommend and pre-sell your affiliate products

3. You want to intimately understand the market that the product is targeting so that you can put together the right messaging and landing page material to capture the interest and attention of your traffic

4. How best to reach your market...if you can reach them via video, put together a series of instructional videos around the problem space and link them back to your landing page/sales funnel. If writing is your strength, then put together content as articles/blog posts and then pull traffic in via a combination of social engagement as well as strategically creating content that will be syndicated across relevant websites. The other approaches are to test and then roll out paid ads (Facebook, Twitter, Adwords, text or banner ads on sites/blogs, etc...)

The keys to all of this are: 1) Have a very good understanding of the target market 2) Build a compelling pre-sell funnel 3) Get involved with the products you are promoting (so it adds extra value for your target market and 4) Work on constantly improving the conversion of your traffic into sales - the more you can improve on this, the more traffic options you have

Wow, this is a loaded question but I will add my 2 cents anyway.

You can start your "Internet Marketing" career by simply engaging in the industry. What I mean by that is subscribe to some IM blogs, optin to a few popular online marketers autoresponder. Join a few traffic exchanges and click for a bit. Stuff like that.

I also suggest limiting the money you spend early on as you can waste money easily when you're not sure what you're doing. Begin to familiarize yourself on some of the free forms of traffic and then when you've got your feet wet in that, you can begin to experiment with paid forms of traffic generation such as pay per click ads, sponsored You Tube video advertising, paid email marketing, and then onward from their.

That's basically how I got started. Played around at first and acquired knowledge and experience as I went

Well make sure you actually do something and don't procrastinate. You should just jump in and get your feet wet, and start implementing some of the advice that you have learned so far about internet marketing. If you make a mistake, fine. We all make mistakes. Don't be scared, and don't be afraid to challenge modern conventional internet marketing wisdom.

First you have to know basics of IM.
In my opinion read this blog. LukePeerFly Affiliate Marketing Blog - Luke Kling this is luke klings blog. He is affiliate manager at peerfly.com . This blog is good for newbies.

If you want to start IM career You have to learn some important terms. Such as what is affiliate marketing?, How to promote affiliate product or your own product?, How to bring good number of customers to your products? Where to put your affiliate link and how? How to choose a niche related product? etc.

If you want answers of your questions? Then search those terms to Google and YouTube.

For better result and fast earn, your have to learn them well. You also can hire a coach to teach you one to one basis. After learning all of these choose a product in which you have interest. I also refer some video tutorial courses to newbies about affiliate matter you will get them to my signature. I think they will be helpful for all newbies affiliate learners.

I definitely agree with other folks here. You should look into getting a coach to guide you through properly. It will save you a lot of time, headaches, and money.

You said "how do I start my career as an internet marketer". The 3 things you require are as follows:

1) Understanding how to get traffic (which from SEO, you know a little)

2) Having a monetization strategy. You can start with a simple product or use other people's funnels as an affiliate.

3) Understanding how to convert that traffic from prospects into leads/customers.

You are a marketer, not an SEO-er. There's a real difference but sometimes people do not get it. Traffic does not automatically equals sales.

You need to either:

1) Sell something - Through an affiliate product or your own.

2) Sell ad space - Building up a viewership through a blog or list and actually having advertisers contact you to place their ads. Either that or you use ads like Google Adsense, etc.

Everything else you learn is built around this. Get all of these working. Understand all of this before proceeding. It's a real business, not an opportunity or leisure project.

A few things you need to consider here:

1. Build yourself a social media presence on LI FB and Twitter. Engage with your audience and post relevant IM related content.

2. Build an email list of subscribers - this can be done via your social media channels and various squeeze pages.

3. Master the art of building sales funnels and squeeze pages to send your traffic to.

4. Focus on a specific area of IM to become an authority in. SEO could be a good place to start due to your current skills, but with bought media (CPM/PPV/PPC etc) this is less fundamental.

5. Look for a way to make quick gains and then scale up. Something like Cost Per Action (CPA) offers via networks like MaxBounty and Peerfly is a good place to start with. Once scaled, invest your profits into your business.

6. Invest in a coach/mentor and copy exactly what they've done!

I hope this helps and good luck. Remember that it doesn't always click overnight but as long as you never give up you'll crack it!

My best piece of advice I can give you is to do everything you can yourself. You are going to make mistakes, and that's fine, but if you spend a bunch of money then realize it wont work, you will lose money fast.
Depending on what you do, you will need to pay for a domain and hosting and maybe a couple other things but that's not much.
Prove what you are doing works by doing almost everything yourself and spending the least possible.
If it works and makes you a bunch of money, great! now you can invest more money into it and expand your business. But if it doesn't work, its not the biggest deal because you only loose a few bucks and your time. And its not a complete waist of your time because you will learn things along the way.
For some businesses this is not possible but for most of internet marketing it is possible, and that's the beauty to internet marketing.

Sales funnels are only for lead capture or to sell a product you created using sales page

Squeeze page which is for you to build a list and promote to your list

Sales page funnel is a funnel to sell your product and upsell other products to maximize your return.

Traffic is either

1. Free traffic
2. Paid traffic

If you don't have money do free but it takes a lot more time and effort to build this.

Paid is almost instant and you can pay and get traffic to your squeeze quickly.

My suggestion is to find something that you like and you have passion for and create a blog and blog about that topic.

Then market stuff in that field...

Internet Marketing is just what the phrase says "Marketing on the Internet"

I'd suggest getting a strong grasp of the fundamentals such as setting up wordpress sites, using an autoresponder, etc... all the essential stuff that one needs to know. Once you know all that, then go ahead and get a proven, reputable coach.

Not before that.

I would start by building a list. You can promote some stuff along the way to pay for your ad cost but I would make my priority list building. It will be the foundation for all the marketing you do. If you are serious about wanting to be an internet marketer then you need to build a list.

Coaching is a great way to start, also find websites where you can promote yourself and advertise. high traffic sights will bring you traffic

You should consider a coach, it is probably the quickest way to start a successful career online. Learn from someone whose been where you are, someone whose exactly where you would want to be right now.

When I knew absolutely NOTHING about im I made an affiliate commission in a forum. Didn't even know about list building.

I assume that by "basic skill of SEO" you mean you know about selecting a domain name and setting up a blog with content targeted to a particular niche.


So with your blog set up you need to:

1. Select ClickBank products in your targeted niche.

2. Also select PLR products in the targeted niche that you can use as a free download in exchange for an email address.

3. On your blog, use posts to pre-sell your ClickBank products. You can also create sales funnels on blog posts starting with a free download to opt in to an autoresponder service. Set up the autoresponder sign up form to redirect to a pre-sell page with a relevant low priced ClickBank product link and a "No Thanks" link. Set the 'No Thanks' link to lead to other relevant ClickBank product pre-sell pages before the download and thank you page for the free offer. Place a re-direct link to the next offer in your sales funnel on the thank you download pages for any offer purchased. (The pre-sell and thank you pages can be created with the free KompoZer software)

4. After you set up your first post and sales funnel, you can test its conversion to sales, using free or low cost traffic methods. You can use social media posts linking to your blog post and use your blog post 'shortlink' as landing page URL for low cost ads.
