Yes I have made money 'without' having a list. The great majority of sales that I have made came from 'knock over' sales. A knock over sale is when someone buys right away from you.

I have done this by sending traffic directly to a 'highly' converting sales page.

I think that these people were ready to buy 'before' they hit my webpage.

I sell affiliate products through a 'system' and sometimes people have already made the decision to get started with something.

They hit the sales page and just 'instantly' get started after watching the video.

So yes you can still make money without a list but I recommend building a list because you can still make 'upfront' profit with knock over sales and reclaim more dollars on the back end with your list.

It would depends how you built your list.

You can offer something at the thank you page (freelance work that you does)

This way, you will be able to have some work and also built a list at the same time. You may also email your list about your services or having a discount for your services.

Sure you can make money while you building your list. You can build it for free...
The "magic" is in funnel which need to convert and bring you money back while you build the list

First step is to make funnel which will bring you back the money you invest into the traffic.
You have more ways to build profitable funnel….god converting offer//product,
CPA offer, affiliate offers...
When your funnel is able to bring you positive cash flow then the

second step is to drive traffic generate money and reinvest money back into the traffic
You need to drive paid traffic because it is fast and scalable…

I build two two big lists in fact for free. You only need some money to start traffic….

Just depends. Some people build Lists that are only 500 to 1,000 and are able to make some nice money. The Niche has to do with it along with your own capabilities in building a relationship with Subs and promoting products to them.

You should start your own list but you can also make sales when you send people to the offer itself right away.

Everyone's results are different and you should at least get 500-1000 leads to see if it is worth it for you to build a list.

focus your ads to target buyers only in a particular niche like traffic or squeeze pages, create or promote a great offer with consistent copy. brand your funnel and your follow ups, create a blog and promote high quality content to your subscribers.

this works for me [make sales] even when mailing to a relatively small list - about 700

build a great relationship with your list by providing great quality content and branding yourself every way possible

You'll want to build a structured sales funnel, so that way, when people are coming in, you'll eventually have a way of either breaking even (it's still good because you're essentially list building for free), or even gain some profit from it.

The main aim is to constantly split test and tweak your funnel, until you can essentially automate the process and rinse and repeat.

Yes, I've made money while building my list. I've built it by offering coupons and access to great deals that are only available by signing up for my list, so the people who sign up are already in a buying mood. They get the coupons, and enough people take advantage of the deals to where I'm able to build my list for free while turning a nice profit.

Maybe there's some kind of urban legend going around on the internet that says building a list is the slower way to earn money. What could be slower than sending one off traffic directly to a sales page and not having it convert? Or, making one off sales here and there with no chance of repeat customers? Isn't your goal to have long term, repeat customers and stable income? You could just as easily earn money on the same day as someone signs up, so long as you are offering some kind of special deal or value to buy on your thank you page and even in your first email to the subscriber. The person has already entrusted you with their email address, so that's the best time to go for that sale.

Some people build Lists that are only 500 to 1,000 and are able to make some nice money.

With smaller then that even.

I monitize from subscriber one. If your OTO converts at 5%, after 100 subscribers you have already made five sales...
