Am a developer but suck at marketing

Emuigai,

What type of developer are you? What can you develop? What product did you develop that you said isn't doing well?

I can't imagine myself giving you any sort of relevant advice without knowing at least those things first...

I am a web developer too and I can totally feel you right now. Been through that situation before also. What i did is learn marketing as well and it really helped me a lot in my projects.

I will be happy to share with you some cool stuff where you can learn from.

It can all be learned just like programming.

Just launched one product on jvzoo. Its my first, its an automated amazon affiliate store. However don't seem to get the attention.

  I suggest you to JV with someone who has done successful product promotions/sales similar to yours. Search on Jvzoo for the similar product(s) to yours and get in touch with the owners if you can and ask them if they want to JV with you.

  If you have access to a time machine, take your product back several years to when automated amazon affiliate stores were all the rage (and before Google slapped them down).

What you do and where you do it for marketing kind of depends on what you are selling. Some marketing ideas might be appropriate for some markets and not for others.

Why don't you JV with someone who knows the marketing side of things, so you can concentrate on what you're good at, coding.

The Joint ventures sub forum here is a good place to advertise a JV offer. Offer them a decent cut of the profits, and tell them that they'll be in charge of getting the sales and you'll take care of the rest. Should work out well if you find a trustworthy person.

It depends what you develop. I have a web development agency and we do a roaring trade. Some of the designers and programmers have no expert marketing skills yet they provide just what the clients need. Look into that type of business for now and work on your marketing education at the same time.

I am a product developer and marketer. Lately I have been focusing on product development more. I realized I enjoyed that more than marketing activities some time ago, so I will continue to focus on the development side of things and leave the marketing side of things to my current and future partners.

In my opinion mastering in marketing and getting to a certain level is more difficult than mastering in development. Both paths require creativity, skills and experience of different kinds. If you enjoy both of them, continue to focus on both of them. If you enjoy development more than marketing, approach and partner with marketers who can handle the marketing side while you handle the development side.

It couldn't hurt reading up on some good marketing advice (maybe a book or two) or asking some questions to expert marketers concerning your situation and applying the answers to your projects.

If that doesn't work for you or it burns you out, I'd agree with the advice of having someone else to the heavy marketing work for your products.

Hello,

You should find a target and aim at the group you chose.

For exemple if you sell motorbikes you will not try to contact people who dont have the driving licence.

That might sounds pretty simple but the first step is here, think of your product which kind of people it might interest. Find a community that represents well this kind of people and talk to them give them the app free. They will test, like or not but they will talk about it anyway.

Furthermore if you manage to get feedback you'll now what to improve and that will puch you to make better.

Go over facebook and search for "JV groups".. you will find a ton of affiliates hungry to promote your offer, if you compensate them well.
Build a high-quality compensation plan, and publish it in the groups, you'll attract definitely some good affiliates.
Alex Jeffreys has made a great course about it,I reviewed it, Secret Affiliate Sniper 2.0. Search it and grab it, really cool stuff
