Facebook Charging Beginning In January???

Has anyone seen or heard anything about Facebook to begin charging for each post, beginning in January?

I normally wouldn't give much time to speculating about something that may be a rumor but if the info is true, I would like to get the details now and not be shocked come January.

I heard this tonight while listening to the Kim Komando radio show, which is a syndicated talk show. Her show is dedicated to everything related to the digital world, so I would think that she'd only put out information that is credible and reliable. .

Kim stated that FB would be making a change in January that she did not like. She talked about having a couple hundred thousand people on her fan page and that beginning in January, FB would start charging about $2000 per post on the fan page.

I did a little searching but haven't found anything, except old rumors that are similar.

Anyone else heard this?

Probably test propaganda from FB themselves.

I hope it is anything other than true.

Thats insane man! Seems like another rumour :/
LoL....I knew someone would ask that.

Yes, I heard right...I was zoned in on what she was saying and I immediately thought the same thing...."that's crazy."

I'm starting a new project that will rely heavily on FB and sharing, so when Kim first said, "FB will be making a change in January and I don't like it," she had my attention, even though I was driving. She specifically talked about it affecting people with fan pages.

She puts out very good information through her show and if it was anyone else, I would have waved it off.

I sent a message through the contact form on her website. Hopefully, they will answer and it will turn out to be nothing.

$2000 per post, some people are gullible enough to believe anything.

I didn't say that I BELIEVED it. I posted the question here to find out if anyone had heard anything related to this.

It's called inquiring.....it's what some people do before ascertaining whether something is true & factual.

Maybe she's talking about making her post reach 100% of the likes on her page.

Well, don't know...she didn't go into much detail.

Guess I'll have to wait and see....

If it is, The Kim Komando show will go down a few pegs on my respectability meter.

There are Fan pages with 200,000 fans and there are those who have 2000 fans, so a $2000 fixed fee would simply not be feasible for both, it simply would not be worth it for the ladder.

That is the same thing I was thinking.....she is probably saying, people will be charged according to how many fans they have,
But, that is my thought process about what she might have been saying.

It was during the last few minutes of the show and she didn't go into detail, except to say how the site (FB) has become what it is today because of the people and those people have made them (FB) money.

    $2000 per post? Really???

People, please don't be so gullible and naive, and believe every rumor that comes out about Facebook!

Why on earth would Facebook absolutely kill its business by charging "$2000" per post by a business. That's ridiculous and insane!

The only thing I can find remotely related to this subject from Kim Kommando is a post on her blog that mentions that Facebook will be cracking down on "Spammy Marketers" starting in January.

Here's are are some excerpts from what she wrote:
Users accept that Facebook is paid for by ads, but they also want clear delineations between what's an ad and what's an actual post.

Starting in January, Facebook will start burying three types of posts from small business Pages:

    1. Posts that solely push people to buy a product or install an app
    2. Posts that push people to enter promotions and sweepstakes with no real context
    3. Posts that reuse the exact same content from ads
You might still see these, but much less often.

On the surface, this might seem like a cash grab more than anything. Part of it probably is. After all, Facebook wants businesses to start paying for ads instead of getting the same reach for free through regular posts.

The problem is you aren't getting the same reach. Organic reach - that is, the amount of people that engage with posts - is on the decline for business Pages. People just don't want to see, click on or engage with that kind of content. It's not interesting or compelling.

Going forward, your job as a marketer for your business is to create posts that people want to see.

Read the post here: Facebook cracks down on spammy marketers | Komando.com

So everybody, take a breath, relax, and don't panic: The sky is not falling, internet marketing is not coming to an end, and Facebook is not charging $2000 per post!

Asking about, whether other marketers know something to be false or true doesn't determine one to be gullible.
You were interested (or gullible) enough to do your own digging, weren't you?

Of course, it's INSANE! It sounded crazy and that's why I chose to post the question on the WF. If anyone knew about a change coming, IM'ers here would know.

The blog post has nothing to do with the DIRECT statements that she made on the air, on her show, today.

Next time consider not wasting people's time with thread based on you not listening closely or understanding context. This thread is an example of how mindless internet rumors are started.

Maybe you should not waste my time and READ correctly. Where do you see anything about me not listening?

FYI, I understood exactly what was said on the show and if I want to know something, I will ask whatever I damn well please, whether it turns out to be false or not.

If you don't like it, leave the thread.

I'm not gullible, and I know B.S. when I hear it. I mean, come on, doesn't the very premise that Facebook will charge businesses $2000 to make a post sound completely fruit-loop crazy?

It would be suicide for Facebook to implement this kind of inane (and insane) policy.

Of course it would be suicide, people would leave in droves. So, hopefully they will abide by their own terms and always keep the site free for users.

IF it were true, I'm guessing it would be based on how big the page is? The bigger the more you would have to pay.
But I doubt they will ever charge for using Facebook (besides ads, game extras, etc) They are making tons of money now, why change that and risk losing there users?

FB has the following statement posted on their site:

Facebook is a free site and will never require that you pay to continue using the site. You do, however, have the option of making purchases related to games, apps and other items. In addition, if you choose to use Facebook from your mobile phone, keep in mind that you'll be responsible for any fees associated with internet usage and/or text messaging as determined by your mobile carrier.

    I'll believe that for now.

why would they do this. they make money through ads.

so the more users they have. the more money they'll get.

They're not that stupid to jeopardise user experience for 2000 dollars

Facebook only cares about profit—they're a corp now. They don't care about you at all. I could totally see them charging 20 cents per post.

$2000 per post on the fan page.
That will never happen. Personally, I think FB only has a few years left. Something like this would certainly hasten their downfall.

On the whole, you get what you pay for.

No heard of that rumor yet -- The first time here in this thread and I dont believe that. I had also heard that they would be trying to make it more of a dating site than a social network, but that rumor dried up.
