Hey all

I'm in the fitness niche. Is it common to get much lower sales in the Christmas period?

I've had ZERO sales for 3 days straight, this is very unusual, and has never happened to me before.

I have a Wordpress site, and have made a test purchase to confirm that everything is working. Traffic is a bit lower, but most of it is still there. All of it is from SEO.

Yeah i guess it's normal these days that sales are lower, nothing to worry about if you ask me.

In the fitness niche i expect you make a lot of sales from people's New Year's resolutions though.

I once sent a solo ad to one of my old lists (when I used to do that) and during this time I received barely any clicks from my email list. I guess it involves people being out of town and being with their families more.

Try after Christmas and maybe have some sort of sale to spark interest.

Wait until after the holidays, your sales will probably make up for this slow week.

Our sales average $250 - $400 per week and sales have dropped as well. We'll see what post Christmas brings. I'm not concerned.

A few days before Christmas, business is slow for everyone.

    Here's a little tip:

Just because no one is buying from you now should not mean that you should stop to advertise. People are seeing your offers and are most likely to BOOKMARK your site/offer for later consideration. (meaning a few days after Christmas is over or the first few days of the new year)

Since the traffic is organic, chances are people are just not looking to stay in shape right now. Let them have to brownies for now and they will come back to you in a weeks time

After Jan 1st, they will make resolutions. Getting in shape is one of them!

Keep your marketing going because many already successful marketers know the value of 'production' right into the new year!

    It could be competitions.

There are many huge/big companies out there such as Amazon offering discounts during this seasons.

Sales in a lot of niches tend to drop during Christmas (and possibly other holidays as well) -- unless you're promoting something that's particular popular that might he purchased during said holiday. For example, electronics are (and probably will always be) popular during the holidays, so if you were to promote something like an Iphone during this time of the year, your sales would no doubt go up.

we are doing about $900 USD a day in profits.

Our sales always drop into XMAS, but then by the 27th its all going nuts, and off to the races again.

Basically people are with their family and friends for XMAS and BOXING day.

Unless people hate their family, then they will secretly go off and spend time on teh internet, which for some is an escape. Hey! maybe there is a way to target these guys or a niche. I NEVER thought of that one. LOL. haha.

Not easy to pinpoint what it exactly could be...

However people spend tons of money around X-mas...

Especially within the fitness niche (think gyms and New Years).

Have you tested anything in the process?

Changed around headlines, offers, squeeze pages, etc?

    Thanks for your replies folks.

I threw in a 60% off one-day sale (a $37 product for $14.99), the last time I did that (over a year ago) I made just under $1,000 in one day. I did that now as a Boxing Day sale, and made only around $200 . To be fair though, that first one was my first ever sale.

28th of December today, and only $52 . Usually make anywhere from $100-$200/day, occasionally dipping to $74.

See how it goes anyhow, traffic is gradually decreasing, so pretty sure I've been de-ranked here and there. Hope things pick up over the next few days.

This has really pushed me to start playing around with paid traffic though, and I managed to make $145 on a $100 spend. Guess you can't trust free traffic from Google.

It's pretty common at this point after Christmas. Don't sweat it....just set plans in motion to 'clean up' from all of the people who will want to get back in shape, with their New Years resolutions, and those who want to lose the 'Holidays weight gain'.

So many people spend the few weeks leading up to Christmas online, shopping for deals. And, they get all their gift ordering done at least a few days before Christmas. And, the last thing they'll want to do is be online shopping for more products. Those people are offline enjoying egg nog and other Christmas cheer events and on Christmas day, actually taking time to enjoy family. You can't expect too much traffic or sales on those days, unless your site is about 'how to cook the perfect Christmas day turkey'. In which case, you might get lots of traffic from people trying to make a good holiday dinner.

One thing you don't tell anyone include things like:

Has traffic slowed down (analytics will tell you)
    Bounce rates up?
Are you getting cart abandonment? i.e. are your conversions down?
Any penalties? Google webmaster tools can tell you this.

Right now, all we are doing is speculating.

Paid advertising. Now is a great time to test it out, and even better, test different sales pages. Sometimes, the sales page gets stale and needs to be changed up. But you won't know until you test it.

I think you're fine. Don't let 3 days of no sales thwart you. You'll see your normal sales return to normal soon. I'm confident about it. In the meantime, still do your marketing and getting those leads in.

Yes this is worst time to do business and generate revenue as many people are on holidays so traffic and revenue always down in this period but I think in next 2-3 week we will see improvement in this.
