How important is it to feature a recognized brand?

I sell a peripheral device that uses micro sd cards. Prices for these cards
are all over the place - you can buy generics in China for 80¢. SanDisk and
Kingston are recognizable, US brands, but cost a lot more - $5 - $8 ea.

Question: How important is brand name recognition?

    It is important because the recognizable brand is presumed to have the better quality. You can overcome that if you can prove that the benefits of your brand are equal to or better than the big name brand.

      Yes the brand means something BIG to most consumers. Think about how most people fel about big names such as Apple, Disney, Sony etc.

      With a well know brand the consumer will have much more confidence that the purchase will be correct. It removes a huge barrier that can prevent sales of "unknown" brands. Perception is important and marketing is largely about creating (or using) a positive perception for the consumer.

        Yes, as others have stated brand names are important to people, especially in the west. We're so proud we'll gladly pay extra just to have a brand plastered on the butt of our jeans, athletic shoes or even our tatted bodies.

        The only way to overcome it is to work to brand "yourself" to your list, viewers, readers or listeners. So, over time they will trust your offering or recommendations over name brands.

          Offer trumps brand/proof every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

          Of course, your killer irresistible mafia offer has to be wrapped in a story designed for the right target market...because when you do that right, you win.

          Now, if you don't know how to craft a killer irresistible mafia offer or if you don't know how to design a story that sells, then you may need the crutch of a brand.

          Not that that's a bad thing.

          It's just...there's always someone in the wings waiting to rip the brand off. But a story!?!

          A story is a different animal.

          A story belongs to you...and only you.

          A story elevates you head & shoulders above your competition.

          In fact, a story -- the right story combined with a killer irresistible mafia offer -- eliminates the competition all together.
