what are some tips for beginners who are trying to get their career in internet marketing launched to a good start?

Find a good niche that you can carve out a segment of. if there are already products or services there then its no point in starting a new one or less you feel you can add value to the marketplace. If you desperately want to go into a competitive market then you should do in-depth competitive analysis and figure out what you can do to make your website known in your market.

As first find a niche that you are passionate...

If you don't have a paid budget then you can work on FB to build connections, friendships and then when you make a little money scale up to paid ads to go fast.

Don't search for magic bullet, jumping from offer to offer and thinking the next is going to make you successful.

It all comes down to YOU, your work and mindset....

Build list from first day and focus on building a relationship so they like and trust you and then present them with offers that solve their problems.

Market daily, and reinvest all back to scale up your business...

    Hi Lynn,

"Success" comes in time once you've established what you want to achieve, learned how to do it, apply it yourself and then teach it to others. (Different for eCommerce and a few other industries but this is typically common).

It's going to be a roller coaster, and especially if you don't establish yourself with a coach or leaders in this industry that can help you avoid numerous bumpy roads (i.e. scams, case studies and so on).

You have to go in this, knowing what your goal is, and understanding that you have to be patient. It's a learning process, but as you learn, you've got to be moving forward. Even if you can only apply 1 hour a day, keep moving forward as progress.

This is going to vary, but you could simply start by forum research. See the types of questions people are asking, and if the demand is there, you can work on building a list, driving traffic towards your offer which would often be something where people can resonate to that problem, and you're the one who can look up to and approach in order to help get that problem solved.

Something else you may want to consider doing is to find a popular fan page for example with like minded users. Maybe even from fan-pages of successful WSO's that were launched and connect with those people. Find out what they liked and disliked about the product. Did they get everything they were expecting? Was there anything that they did not get resolved?

For me, authority and relationship building is crucial for anyone right out the gate. You have to think long term and really get involved with everyone who's making the effort to see how you can help them. Automating things help, but you have to hustle and really show them that you're there for anything they need you for.

People look up to those more successful than them, and that's how you want to position yourself. You may not have $$$$$$ but knowledge is also power, and if you can incorporate that into your marketing, people are going to resonate with you and will eventually start investing in you.

Email marketing is going to be crucial, but what I often teach my followers, is to focus on building that foundation and structure right from the beginning. So, start with getting a blog up and running, build some content, then structure a sales funnel so that way you can have a system for people to follow and go through. That's going to help them achieve what they signed up for in the first place.

Learn and you progress and position yourself as someone who will make people think "Damnnnnn Lynn really knows her stuff", and then eventually you'll resonate with others. Be yourself and continue to move forward.

The simplest advice I like to give people just starting out is: without doing keyword research, pick a topic you love, search Google for other sites talking about it, then put in the work and make it better than anything out there.

Why I say don't do keyword research is, that stuff confuses a lot of people. Numbers stray them from writing on the proper topics they care about and instead produce low quality articles on topics they know nothing about.

Build quality stuff, then learn the other things as you go along and optimize what you have built so far.

I totally agree with this 100% you don't have to be a product creator or anything to get this going either. You just need an offer, a way to collect subscribers and something to sell (affiliate offers). You can create your freebie around the offers you plan to promote or create a kick butt resource guide that every newbie must have. Your main goal is to not over complicate things. Head over to W+ or jvzoo they have tons of the best selling products in any niche mainly IM/MMO in an instant you can see whats hot and whats not.

      Pick offers-->Create Freebie-->Build Squeeze page--> Send Traffic--->collect subscribers-->Follow up

You don't just "find success" like Napoleon Hill from "Think and Grow Rich" says : "It all starts with a burning desire". If you have no burning desire you will not figure it out , you will give up, and you will not do what it takes in order to be successful! If you have a burning desire to succeed, you don't just "find success" you do whatever it takes to achieve success. You don't let any obstacle get in your way, you take action and you don't make excuses! If you really want to succeed online you must make sacrifices and learn to become disciplined. Success comes to those who work hard and don't give up no matter how difficult it gets. Success is getting back up time you have fallen down, and refusing to lose! If you keep going and refuse to ever backdown you will become successful! You must believe you will succeed even when everybody doubts you! You must always see yourself at the finish line!

When I first started out I read and studied as though I was in an Ivy league MBA post-graduate program. That's not for everyone.

But I do recommend educating yourself before you spend money (other than what you could afford to lose). And educate yourself before you make a commitment to a niche or business direction.

For some reason in every career, vocation or even job the person is expected to get educated "before" they attempt it. But for some reason when people ask how should I start in I.M? Everyone gives vague, abstract and generalized ideas, no one mentions educating yourself. Can anyone answer that?

If I had to start all over again, my first step would be to find a hungry and popular niche market with low competition.

Step 1. Use Warrior Forum, clickbank, JV zoo, Amazon. Check out whats selling well, what are the products that are converting?
Step 2 Once you have a general idea based on whats selling and what your interests are, you need to qualify your research: Use Google Keyword search. I try to pick keywords with between 1,000 to 50,000 monthly unique searches.
Step 3 Check out the competition using the keyword tool and by searching on Google.

Ensure there are good affiliate offers you can offer your niche prospects.

Build your list using a combination of free traffic (Youtube marketing, Set up a FB page, get involved in your niche specific forums) and paid for advertising, (PPC, solo ads, media buying,)

Build a simple blog website and give value and give more value. .

It's really quite simple to get cracking.

    1. Take a look on PeerflyOffers.com
    2. Take a look at EPCs to get an idea of what's converting.
    3. Use (2) to determine your market.
    4. Decide on a handful of high-EPC "free" offers in a sub-market.
    5. Put together an affiliate site based on (4).
    6. Add content, pushing the offers.
    7. Drive free traffic.

Take action on (1) to (7) and you'll be making money pretty much from the get-go. A version of the above allows me to setup an income site generating 3 figures in around 30 days or less.

Once you get the hang of the above (the absolute basics), learn the more advanced techniques of affiliate marketing.

Either that, or you could faff around researching markets for a month, growing lists, and hurling traffic in the direction of Amazon (with their oh so generous % commission rates).

Not rocket science at this level.

Most people here on WF will tell you to start a list. And they're not wrong, it is the best way to make money online for sure, but ultimately it comes down to you, your specific skills, interests, and whether or not you will even put forth the work needed to make it happen (not saying you won't, but most don't). What are you good at? Personally I started making my first few bucks from affiliate marketing through banner advertising on niche related websites.

Firstly - Im sue everyone will join me in wishing you the best of luck!

My advice to a newbie would be - Firstly, DONT get sucked in to all the hype and BS that you sill see on a daily basis! As internet marketers, we constantly see promises of becoming a millionaire in a matter of weeks if you just "follow my system". PLEASE don't fall for these kind of offers!

Don't get disillusioned, This business is a hard business to find your way. yes, once you have found your way it becomes hugely rewarding, but don't be another sufferer of what internet marketers call SOS (or SBS) these abbreviations mean:

    Shiny
    Object
    Syndrome

    or.....

    Shiny
    Ball
    Syndrome

As people have already said, do some research on the niche that you would like to target first, and go for it, work hard, educate yourself on the market, Research, research, research! Listen to people on the WF as they will always be here to offer help or answer any questions that you may come across.
    All the best

When I first got started, I just started surfing the Net & found some guys site, pictures of his family and vacations and such. I got very excited.

He was a real guy who was 'already' a millionaire online. I later met him in person. He lives right here in Canada (Montreal).

I guess that I got 'Hyped' Up!

Hyped up enough for me to find $1,500 from a credit card (while being in $50K debt) to 'get in' a top tier direct sales company.

That was over 9 years ago.

Started taking action and I am still thankful to 'this' day that I did.

What are you going to do?

The very first thing? Study it, learn what it really is.

I am amazed when I look back and realize how badly I wanted to be an "internet marketer" without really knowing what it meant to be one.

I think it's easy to get sold by a dream some other slick marketer presented to you. And the only end result is parting with your hard-earned cash.

So first, do your research. If you're posting about researching a good niche, it sounds like you've already started some of the groundwork.

Your further research (for potential profitability) will depend on the niche you're interested in. And depending on what it is, Google, Amazon, etc may be good places to start.

Hey saw your post, and those are solid questions. I like to do that myself, seek the counsel of people who have 'been there done that'. This is essential in any success. The best way to find a niche that is in demand is doing some keyword and search engine research. If you are just starting out, research your keyword in google adwords/keyword tool. You're going after a target audience of no less than 1,000 exact searches per month, but below 15,000 (if you are just starting out) to avoid major competition. If you find one to meet that criteria, then take it to the search engine, and see what kind of sites are ranking on the first page for those keywords. If there is page after page of large, authority type websites, I'd say competition is a little high for that niche to effectively market it.

Check out one of my newer websites here where i explain all of this:

There are a lot of ways to potentially make money online. Potentially being the operative word.

If you really want to find success, research a method that appeals to you, whether it be email marketing, Adsense, Amazon, product creation, and so on and so forth.

If you find that what you're doing is a chore, you will probably give up, as there is nobody breathing down your neck to actually get off your ass and do some work.

If you read the posts above, there are some solid pieces of advice there. Some of the recurring themes are - finding your passion, identifying a good niche - preferably something you are passionate about or have good knowledge in, ignoring the "shiny object syndrome" and being consistent (and persistent).
Once you pick your niche and your method, consistently follow through. Keep working on developing your online asset/ property (list, blog, website, forum - anything you've picked as your method). Above all network with other successful entrepreneurs.

Finding a niche that is "in demand" is not really that big of a deal, it's the sub niche that you should be focusing on, stick with proven niches, go to the clickbank marketplace and see which are the available niches..

Find a niche that you are passionate about.

It should also be what others are passionate about and most importantly willing to spend money on in your target market.

Say if you are passionate about cooking.

What you can do is to look up at blogs, forums and even videos to find out if there is a demand for cooking.

Then zoom in on the type of dish you love, like to cook and others feel the same as well in regards to learning.

Besides online, you can also do offline research as well at libraries, bookstores or by joining your local community club or cooking class where there are people who are just as passionate as you in cooking.

Make friends with them, connect and stay in touch with them. Because you never know, these people could very well be your prospects, customers and even affiliates buying and even helping to promote what you are recommending be it your own product or others.

Once you got a fair amount of knowledge, experience and network, then you can start blogging which is the first step I highly recommend. Write 5-7 good quality 500 word and more articles on those.

Gain a fair amount of followers through your blog posts and connecting with other bloggers in your niche. Also have and give away namecards with your blog url in offline events.

Once you have a network of say 100 people and more growing, create a squeeze page, set up an autoresponder from Aweber or Getresponse and recommend a few online cooking courses through your emails be it your own products or affiliate products from Amazon, Clickbank or other affiliate networks like Cooking.com

At the same time, do Facebook marketing as well by placing ads for as little as $5USD per day, create Facebook group and fanpage inviting the people you know and connected with on-and-offline to join and like.

In contrary to what most gurus, the way I see about making money on-or-offline boils down to 2 main factors:

    1. People Connection and

    2. Value Exchange

You give people what they want and what they will give you what you want though you can't expect everybody to do that.

You treat them the way you like to be treated and they will treat you exactly the way you treated them.

It does not have to be cooking or even internet marketing but any other niche you are passionate about.

    Like playing guitar, drawing etc.

Most people come into IM just wanting to make $ for themselves but not everybody understands the importance of connecting and giving value to others first

The top three niches to make money with fast online as an affiliate marketer or product creator are:

To answer your question, I guess I never really searched for a niche that was "in demand". I searched for a specific niche within general topics I'm interested in. My advice is to do that because you'll be more passionate about it.

I think some people spend too much time seeking that "perfect" niche but that niche is often something of interest to them. So even though they have a profitable niche, they don't make money because the content on their blogs/websites/emails are boring.

Find something you're passionate about. Chances are there's a way to make money with that niche.

The most important thing you need to master is - YOUR MINDSET!

You can have the best program, the best system or mentor in the world, but if you are not able to apply what you learn, then you will fail! Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, the first thing I would work on is ALWAYS THE MINDSET.

And then you can take a look around to find a mentor. Because it's been said over and over again in the WF, if you don't have a mentor, it's getting pretty hard to succeed in this business.

It's like the same with other stuff in your life, you always have or had a mentor, a teacher who guided you along the way...the same goes with this business.

Totally agree here... a mentor is especially important... and a good one too.... there are those that just dump u with the resources and videos and leave u to fumble around on yr own.

Despite having a mentor, Even things like how to track a campaign / solo ad sale... some mentors expect newbies like myself to know it or find out on my own when in actual fact i was terribly frustrated at having to search loads of infor and try to work it out myself.

Good coaches / mentors are hard to come by....

Identify "True" marketers like Frank kern, Ryan Diess, Ezra firestone etc in your niche and stick with them, learn what they have to say and implement it..

Eventually you will make it like others do
