$2000 to invest, new to the game, where to start?

Hello,

Just like everyone else, I'm tired of the 9-5. I want something with residual income. A few ideas me and my buddies discussed were YouTube, creating an app, or starting a business, such as a clothing line. I then came back across internet marketing, which I had looked into in the past, but not too in depth because i didn't have much money.

Anyways, now I have around $2k to invest. For someone who is just barely starting to try and make money online, what exactly would be the best option for me to make an income I can live off of within 6 months?

Any advice/input is appreciated, thanks!

I would personally buy a course on advertising affiliate offers through PPC (Just get a WSO, they aren't too much really). Then get a good autoresponder like GetResponse, get the landing page creator add-on ($30/month for both autoresponder and landing page creator), then build a list and promote the products through PPC (send them to your landing page, they opt-in, and then the thank you page after they submit their email is the affiliate offer page).

You can get pretty cheap clicks going through Bing Ads, so I'd look into that.

    Good luck!

Yeah man I would listen to this guy. I remember when I blew money and shot it to the stars with nothing to show for it investing PPC without knowing what I was doing. $2000 is kind of a decent budget but since you're a newbie, I wouldn't recommend spending it on Paid Advertising like others would suggest. Invest in a course, and learn the ropes, and it doesn't even have to be a $1000 course. Invest in a $50-$100 course that can teach you the basics and I'm pretty sure from there you can be able to figure the next steps which is what I did. There are tons of resources out there.

Niche Man is right do your research and educate your self then when your ready with some of your $2000 invest in a good mentor but again do your research on finding the right mentor for your chosen niche.

There's a big learning curve online. If your goal is to quit your day job, it's not going to happen very soon by starting online as a newbie. It will take a lot of time before you start making any consistent money, let alone enough to replace your full-time income from your job. Some people try to make it full-time online for years and never make it.

Not trying to put you down or anything or saying that it's impossible. Just trying to give you the right information for you to make an informed decision.

No idea. It all depends on your talents and skills. Are you a top-notch coder? Maybe you should look into app development. Are you a fantastic writer? Maybe you should try your hand at blogging or article marketing. Are you a fantastic designer? Maybe your idea of a clothing line would work. Are you not particularly fantastic at anything? Maybe you should look somewhere else...

The thing is that there are lots ways to make money online, but probably only one or two that'll work for you. So think about what you're good at and start from there. There's still no guarantee you'll succeed -- some say that 95% of people fail when starting online businesses -- but at least you'll increase your odds that way. I'd also want to reconsider that 6-month timeframe. It might be feasible; then again, it might not. Just as a point of reference, Facebook took five years -- five years!!! -- to turn a profit. Obviously you're not Facebook, but the point is starting a business is a marathon, not a sprint so even if you eventually succeed it may take quite a bit of time to get there.

At any rate, your budget is mostly irrelevant, whether you have $20 to spend, $200 or $2000 (though if you have $200,000, then it might matter...) There are plenty of people who started with under $100 and if you've got a great idea but you need more money you're better off trying to raise the necessary funds than going with a crappy idea just because it costs under $2,000.

Sorry I don't have a definitive answer on what you should do, but your first lesson in business should be that you shouldn't rely on others to tell you what kind of business you'd be good at -- especially on a forum filled with people pitching make money online products...

    Good luck!

First, you need to do research in this forum.

Get a war room membership and read up on marketing principles, then read up on which niches have the best profit potential.

Next, take what you've learned, think about what you're passionate about, and choose 1 niche to start in.

Get webhosting and an autoresponder and you should have about $1,850 remaining.

First off, put your money away for a while and read. Absorb as much information as you can about SEO, social media and content marketing.

Next, decide what you can do on your own. Identify what you bring to the table so that you don't have to pay someone else to do it. You will need to do a lot of work up front yourself or you will burn through that 2k.

The average app makes around 2-5 cents per download. Clearly, you need to hit a home run in order to make a profit. This article covers the benefits and drawbacks of the freemium model as well as the 10 traits every successful app shares in common.

If I had a gun to my head I would probably say that affiliate marketing is a good place to start.

Regarding content, obviously I'm biased, but I do believe you get what you pay for.

  • - keyword research
    - look for low comp keywords
    - hire a writer to write them articles
    - domain/hosting/WP Template
    - social media accounts
    - update everyday or every few days

the easiest course I have ever taken was the lazy ass stoner crash course. It breaks the very basics down.

The most important thing, in my experience, you can put your money down on is content. But you have to do keyword research and find a market you can attack. You should also learn the primary (at least in my perspective) profit models.
    - adsense
    - amazon
    - email marketing

Go to JVZoo and look for a adsense or amazon course. But ultimately save your money from "making money" because it takes time to do it online.

Nope, don't go investing in anything unless you know what you want to do. Assess your skills first. What are you good at? If you start looking at make money products, you'll find a lot of products that promise riches doing a lot of things. They might or might not work, that's not my point. The point is, you might not like the method.

There are literally hundreds of methods of making money online out there, and not everyone of them will suit you. You won't know what will unless you know more about this subject.

So, my advise is, start reading stuff for free first. Read marketing blogs, forums (this forum is a good place to start) etc. Understand the methods out there, and assess if you'll have the interest to proceed with them in the long run.

Let me start off by listing a couple of methods:
    1. Niche sites with SEO
    2. Blogs
    3. Kindle
    4. Affliliate marketing
    5. List building
    6. Offline marketing
    7. Amazon review sites
    etc etc

Then, choose ONE. I say one because when you start off, its better to start with one method, get good at it, set up and stabilize the business, and then move on to the next. You'll still be learning, and learning too many things at once will scatter your focus and lead to poor results (I talk from experience).

Once you choose your method, buy a good course in said method. Finish the course, take notes, and create an action plan.

Now follow the plan until you get results. Don't get discouraged if you don't get results immediately. Keep at it and you'll eventually get results.

This way, you'll only be paying for one course/training rather than 100s of them in different topics. Save your money. This market loves to take money from newbies, so be careful.

You'll also have to pay for tools, based on your method (hosting, website, marketing tools etc), but again, you'll save a lot more when you have a clear plan rather than when you go in blind and start buying things.

    Hope this helped. Good luck!

Mike Anthony makes a good point.
You should definitely do a bit of research. A really good thing I did was attend a live event in internet marketing. Take lots of notes and talk to people wanting to do the same as you.
There is plenty of opportunities to look into. Some are good and some are rubbish. But as long as you are prepared to invest, learn and take things slow.
But my suggestion is to find a mentor or coach to help you! (this is what helped me the most).

My advice is to setup a bing account, get $100 coupon for $10 and start building your email list.
From all methods I've tried, this one brought me regular, easy (after you learn about ppc) and autopilot income.

From your post, I assume you are new to IM and this method would require probably the least ammount of study. You can easily invest your $2k once you see good results.

First I would ask what do you like? See everyone wants to make money but you first need to find an area that interest you. Is it

    CPA
    Ebay
    Affiliate marketing
    Build a blog
    Amazon/Kindle
Building a list and selling solo ads
Developing and selling your ow products
The list goes on, do some research in the forum and see what interest you and go from there

Chose a method of making money and then invest all your time and what money you have to invest in that method. For me, I love blogging so I would invest my money in blogging and advertising.

    Study:

    2. Creating a Website/Squeeze Page
    3. How to build a list
    4. How to give value to your list

Read success stories of Online Entrepreneurs and study their process

Read, understand, and keep on trying

Keep your money, keep your day or night job and start getting educated. It can seem like a lot of stuff to get your head wrapped around.

When I was new, I didn't wait because I was 'Ignorance on Fire' and that excitement started quite a journey.

    But it was worth it!!

    And still is.

I didn't have any available funds outside my $1,000 per week job as a truck driver other than credit cards.

And I was already $50K in Debt.

I couldn't wait years like the great majority of people on this planet to take action.

So I found an opportunity that excited me because it represented freedom and had to borrow another $1,500 from my credit card.

This was coming from a guy who had zero experience in this industry and who used to shift gears for a living.

And then I went into paid ads straight away after reading Perry Marshall's $97 Ebook

But hey that was just me being crazy.

If you are like most people, do yourself a favor and take it simple, one year at a time.

If you are like me, a little twisted in your head & would like to make money now & not 10 years from now, go to town baby!

$2000 could either get you a lot of very useful information to get you started, a good website and some money for advertising. Or it could buy you a lot of junk that won't take you anywhere.

I'd say research as much as you can do from the free resources on here and other sites. Have a critical mind, don't pay too much attention to the promises on the sales pages but listen to the advice of the people who are most successful. Look at where your skills are; are you a good writer, programmer, etc? What are you interested in? Could you sell/affiliate market products based on your interests? If so spend a little money on web hosting and a domain and get started.

You want to decide what type of marketing you wish to move into.

Wether its cpa, list building, ppc, video marketing, etc, the list goes on.

Research all the possible methods and then decide on one.

Once you have decided on what particular space you wish to educate yourself in, you can either purchase a course, or get a coach.

A coach will fast track you to success as they have 'been there done it'.

Maybe spend that $1,000 on a GOOD course and a GOOD coach... (educate yourself with this, yes will take time)

Then save up money over the next couple of months for either traffic budget or whatever else you need to spend money on within internet marketing.

The other alternative is simply educating yourself via this forum or other free sources. They are there, but will take a lot longer, as its like learning a new language at first.

I learned by myself more than I would ever learn from paid course, all the material are available online.

Don't rush on spending money online. learn, search, and most importantly don't get into a business until you feel u r passionate about it

It sounds like you already know a little bit about getting started from your post & the recommendations above. With $2K I would recommend doing all of the suggestions you made as making several high quality YouTube videos, possibly making an app (haven't done that) & starting a teespring account as it looks pretty promising I would start with getting your own website & an autoresponder though. With a few hundred dollars you should be able to get a good web designer to make the site for you & order some articles to start building up your SEO & list at the same time. I recently added a Facebook page to my site & is also a great way to promote your videos as well as sharing them with social media. Alot of things you can do yourself in order to save money (if you have the free time) or you can outsource all the work like I said above. Either way, I would start making a profit from this before deciding to spend alot of money on advertising or anything else. This should give the best chance at being successful in 6 months or less & could become a long term source of income for you

It's tough to say something you can immediately live off of in six months (unless you live modestly) because more than likely there will be some trial and error. Here is what I wish someone would have told me years ago when I first started out. (Assuming you go the internet marketing route)

    1. Create a high converting squeeze page (search around and there are plenty of examples)
    2. Offer a high quality product in return, preferably something you create
    3. Build a list
    4. Build a list
    5. Build a list
I'm emphasizing this because I wish I would have listened when I first started out instead
    of putting this off.
    6. Create more of your own HIGH quality products

All of this can easily be done with little start up money if you do your homework. Avoid "shiny object"
purchases at the beginning that so many chase after. Later on you can go back and buy certain products that enhance your business once you've got a few things working.

My advice would be don't spend any money until you really need to. I blew loads of money on paid traffic, when I first started. I really didn't have a clue.

You can get lots of content free on the internet. The key is to stick to one thing until you can see results. Don't get distracted or fooled into buying products you don't really need.

Learn in the way that others here have said. Dan Kennedy said once that if you don't know how to make money without money, you probably won't be able to make money *with* money. Learn the ropes, understand how every strategy works (and WHY it works), then implement, and then move forward towards investing a little bit of money into some advertising (around $50 starting off slow).
