Hi warriors,
I just got the domain name buymarineboats.com after I saw a wonderful thread on the war room and would like you to help me decide what I can possible do with the domain name.

I have thought of selling it but I am not totally sure how much will be a good price for it. If you suggest I should keep it, do you think I can possibly get some affiliate sites selling marine boats?

Please help.

  • I don't quite know what to say to this - and probably neither does anybody else.

The domain name is not really very useful - I can see that somebody might want to search 'buyboats' or even 'buyriverboats' but 'buymarineboats'?

Marine boats, as far as I am aware, even in Africa, is not a nomenclature that crops up in normal conversation so it is equally unlikely to be used as a search keyword. Maybe you should have checked the availability of buyseagoingboats' - at least that does, sometimes, arise in normal conversation.
  • I woulod probaably have a quick look at the searches Google and other keyword tools predict for this keyword and also what sort of competition there is for it when searched in various search engines.

This will then give you an idea if people search the term or not and if it would be valuable to somebody!

I ahve never bought and sold domains though so I may be a little off base here! ; )

    • Search results analysis using the GKT show very little data for this particular search phrase.

bay marine boats - global monthly search volume - 91
buy marine boats - global monthly search volume - Not enough data

This would lead me to believe that the actual domain wouldnt be worth much at all, and whilst I havent dug very deep in terms of other research, I notice that someone has the domain registered with godaddy, but are yet to do anything with it.

My guess for what its worth, probably what it cost to register.

  • i dont think its worth anything, really most empty domains are not worth anything unless

    a) there is an established site on it or PR
    b) its a super keyword like money or banking and not a tight niche like "marine boats".

You can always try to sell...but honestly i dont think you would get more than $10 for the name alone.
  • domain - not that much, but if you developed a site that was generating some income and traffic - now you have a web property that has some value.

marine boat, great deals on eBay Motors, Electronics on eBay!

those results might give you some niche ideas.

  • I probably wouldn't have bought that domain before doing some keyword research.

I personally am waiting for the day one of these big companies messes up and forgets to renew their domain.

  • On top of what's already been said, the boat market has completely tanked.
People can't get rid of their boats fast enough and there are no buyers.

In fact, several states have had to make new laws making it an even harsher crime
to abandon boats in water ways. Apparently, people have been removing identifying
marks from their boats, running them aground and reporting them stolen...all because
    they can't sell them.

If you think your domain has any value, I'd tuck it away for a better economic climate.
  • What was your plan when you bought the domain?

Trying to find something positive: you might be able to do something with Marine Boat Speakers through eBay or another affiliate program. There are some related keywords that get some traffic. Also marine electronics and perhaps marine insurance are options. It's not something I'd spend much time or money on promoting but it's better than nothing.
