Syndicating Content Question

I am interested in aggregating content from other blogs/sites on a very specific topic onto my site. I plan on making it very clear at the beginning and end of each article that the content was originally created and posted from another source which I will link to. Would those measures be enough for me to use other website's content word for word onto my site?

The key is permission. You can't take someone's material and credit them and have that be enough. They have to agree to it. I've found that RSS is a good way to go because when someone submits their stuff to a feed, they are, in effect, granting their permission for you to use it.

So it sounds like the standard etiquette here would be to request written permission to repost their content.

Yep. Unless the source has an RSS feed. You can subscribe to that. The writer credit along with a link to the source site will be included in all the feed's content.

RSS feeds are still subject to copyright law, so just be sure the RSS publisher is meaning for their feed to be used commercially. Usually not an issue if the RSS just contains a story snippet, but could be an issue if the feed has the full story.
