How do I do this with Wordpress??

Hi Warriors,

I installed a sales page theme onto one of my wordpress sites. It appears as the static first page.

I would also like to install a blog so it would appear:

domainname.com/blog/postname

I would also like to have a different theme for my blog (i.e not a sales page theme). I have seen this done before but I have no idea how to do it myself.

Travis Sago has it with his instacashkeywords.com as an example.

Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Thx,
Ciara

Well, you could just install WP in a folder called 'blog'. There you can install any theme you desire,

    Yup, do what VegasGreg suggests.
Then to get .../blog/postname you will need to go to "settings", then "permalinks", then choose "custom" and then write %postname%. However, I would recommend you to use this instead %category%/%postname%. Looks prettier =)

You can install Wordpress in any directory you choose, it doesn't have to be the domain root.

You can also just create a html page and then add it in the root and this will over ride the wordpress default.

So an index.htm or html will always be seen before a index.php

this means you can take people to an OTO if you want as well before you direct them to your blog.

Just create a index.html and index.htm in notepad and upload to see which one loads first.

Sorry, that's a very bad advice. Don't try to put an index.html file in the root WP directory because your WP installation will stop working. The script is set to always look for the index file in the root/main directory and if your site is set that index.html takes precedence over index.php - WP won't display.

    You're welcome

As for the %postname% thingy, it's REALLY useful for SEO, as well as it helps the user if they want to go back to a good post they read, using their surfing history. (Instead of for example ...p=35)
