  • Sean,

Well, for traffic that'd most likely post ads on your classified ad site -- LinkedIn would be good, since corporations, companies, businesses, independent professionals and freelancers are a significant part of traffic that'd be responsive when it comes to classified ad site posting offers; and

Reaching out to the decision makers in the relevant departments of these corporations, companies and businesses (mainly sales department, marketing department and HR department) via LinkedIn InMails and / or LinkedIn ads would also be good. Plus:

PR distribution portals like PRWeb would be good to promote your business through feature stories that subtlely announce the launch of your classified ad site and / or your special offers; and

Participating in relevant discussions on heavily trafficked niche-related blogs, social networks and sites that are relevant to your target market so them webmasters / owners of those sites'd be more responsive when you directly contact them in the future for possible guest posting deals and advert / ad banner / mailing list ad placements would also be good, i.e. Blogs, sites, Web forums and social groups that are heavily trafficked by freelancers and independent professionals and decision makers in the relevant departments of corporations / companies / businesses that operate in your target areas. Also:

Contacting offline organizations / associations of corporations, companies, businesses, independent professionals and freelancers who operate in your target areas so as to introduce (to the leaders of those groups and also to their members via newsletter feature stories and adverts) your business and your classified ad site and to promote free and paid ad posting offers in your classified ad site would be good...

    Hope this helps...

I doubt these networks could prove worthwhile in generating traffic for classifieds type of sites. You will have to focus more upon SEO.

I would be agree with Marx.. Linkedin+PRWeb+Discussions in Niche Sites+Direct Contact Would be a good strategy.

Other than that you can also search other such classified sites of your niche to contact and encourage the business owners to use your site.

    Wish you good luck!

Yes, that's part of market research. Once you've successfully identified your ideal customer avatar, then it's time to look for them, and in this case:

It'd be good to directly contact the decision makers in the relevant departments of corporations, companies and businesses that have recently posted ads in other heavily trafficked free / paid classified ad sites, along with independent professionals and freelancers and mom-and-pop businesses with recent ads in those popular free / paid classified ad sites, especially those that operate in your target areas, so as to introduce your business, to inform them about the benefits they can gain from posting ads in your classified ad site and to entice them with your special offers...
