If you're a Woman selling in a Woman's Niche the better looking you are the worst your Conversions !

Listening some more to Eric Graham lately and he brought up a very interesting find based on over 10,000 Split tests he has performed in the last 20years.

One of them I have found to be true myself. And that is Conversions ( whether it be an Optin or actual sales) are higher when a picture of an attractive woman is somewhere on that Page.

I know my CPA banners with an Attractive woman have head over heals kicked the crap out of other Banners for the exact same Product and wording.

But Graham goes on and further expands on this topic. He also says in all the tests he has done that Women IMers who were marketing to women niches had poorer Conversions when the picture of themselves were more attractive.

He said there was a direct correlation... The better looking the photo of themselves , the poorer the Conversions.

He stated this as counter intuitive .

Knowing how some women do view others , to me it is not.

      Obviously you are not reading my Post. You must be just briefly scanning over it.
      Go back and carefully read what I just wrote.


      Hint: the first ones pertains to a random picture across all markets male , female etc..

      the second one is for a specific market and specific marketer ...
      and look at the word themselves and see if you can deduce and figure it out

        How does one know if the photo on a page is the marketer or a model?

        If a good looking model is pictured that says "I love this product and you will too?"

        Do conversion go down the better looking the picture of the woman is because the copy implies she is the one selling it?


        If a marketer uses a picture of herself that says, "Oprah's number one recommended diet!"

        Do conversion go up the better looking she is because the copy implies she is not the marketer?

            LOL! Aww really? So unnecessarily sensitive of you discrat. I am well versed in condescension...

            Anyway, I was just confused a bit because I couldn't see a clear relation between the marketer and the model without sales copy to imply it.

            Other than a personal connection to the marketer so you 'know' who they are (i.e. mailing list) but then there would be too many other factors to be able to attribute any difference in conversion solely to appearance.

            It is an interesting paradox.

            So ugly male marketers should not use hot young female avatars for best results?

              Women are worse than man.

              When a man sees a photo from a handsome guy he thinks nothing of it.

              When a women sees a photo from an awesome looking women she thinks: what a whore.

              I have one site with a female persona and purposely selected a somewhat older lady so that no jealousy arises.

    1. Being attractive is a relative term, thus maybe Eric Graham used ugly women in his marketing, whom he happened to find attractive.

    2. If marketing beauty products to woman, weight loss, skincare, etc, I would think that having a more "attractive" appearance when representing a product would help the cause, rather than hinder.

      I must admit thats a very valid point. I could see it both sides. I know for a fact there are women who are just caddy as hell when it comes to other women who are considered very attractive . They are always looking for some way to bring that woman down or find fault with her.

      When a weakness or fault is found with this woman all of the sudden these same women like her a lot better. Like I said many women are NOT like this. But some are

      As always, it's best to test and track results as your own results will vary.

      Results will vary by industry, by audience, by the offer, etc.

      What you're saying may very well be true most of the time . . . however, testing is not difficult and there is no better way to be sure than to test everything.

    Look at the people selling this type of stuff through infomercials...Cindy Crawford, Alyssa Milano, etc.

    Imo, it's because an average looking woman would feel more real and seem to be "someone just like me".
    They had found a similar result with chocolate ads. A beautiful model selling it reminded women that they should be dieting instead of buying chocolate, but an average woman increased the sales. (as far as I remember, didn't save the study...)
    Yet I think that a pimple ridden face still will have bad effects on the sales of an acne cream and a double chin will have a bad effect on weight loss pill sales.
    If it still stands for those two examples, it is truly counter intuitive.

    Like any kind of marketing, the message boils down to who you're marketing to. This includes the use of avatars. There are instances when the use of an attractive woman would be beneficial.... and other times when not so much.

    Marketing is not "one size fits all" which is why the OPs findings are what they are. His results are from 2 separate markets.

    So, boil down who you want to sell to and THEN decide whether or not to use an attractive woman avatar..... based on your markets specific dynamics.
