Hello all. I'm new here so please be kind.

I've started writing articles for my website which are motherhood based. If I submit them to ezine.com would that be duplicate content? Should I only submit them to ezine or should I submit them to several submission directories. I want to have them on my website as well. I'm just afraid of getting a slap on the wrist for having duplicate content.

Thanks so much for your help.
Amanda

Many article directories don't demand original content, though EzineArticles does. Many people (myself included) will submit to Ezine first, and once they're approved, submit to others like ArticleBase (I recommend them -- they seem to bring me a lot of hits).

Ok so I shouldn't put the articles on my site until after I submit them? Or not at all?

If you intend to post on EzineArticles, you should make that your first point of posting. After that, it's up to you. As to whether you want to post on your site, my impression is that it won't hurt. This is a point of debate, though I recently read a good article that attempted to debunk the concept of Google's duplication penality.

In other words, I would post to my site if I were you, but only after it's approved by Ezine.

yes, take our word for it. when you have a number of articles and you plan to submit to different directories. submit to ezine articles, first. i guess they consider themselves king of the article directories. you need to submit to ezine articles first, before you even post it on your own site.

i know of a lady who only writes content to post on her site only. she doesn't believe in article submitting, and she receives plenty of natural traffic to her site.

so to submit or not, has it pros and cons

Hi Nanny, first off welcome to the forums.

Secondly, duplicate content has been dis-proven so many times within these forums and by webmasters everywhere that it has been long relegated to the category "myth".

So far you have been getting horrible advice. Please ignore such nonsense. Here's the facts on this matter:

You always want to place your content on your own site first, but after doing this you can submit that article to as many directories as you wish - verbatim. The only reason you would place it on your site first is so that the content is seen as being owned by you - and not considered as having come from EZA originally. Otherwise There are NO penalties for you content being in more than one place. These are the facts.

As you can see, there are those who assume far too many things incorrectly and as a result their own productivity suffers, and the advice they lend can continue to perpetuate nonsense myths and lead new people to fall into the same bad habits. I certainly don't blame them for trying to help, as I am sure they are getting that same advice from some other uninformed company or individual.

Take it from me, your content is meant to be placed on many directories, AS IS. Changing or rewriting the articles is up to a personal preference. You do not need to change, reword, or edit content when submitting to more than one directory. Like I said above, it's always best to place content on your own site first just to show that you are the original owner of the content, but that is only a suggestion, there will be NO penalties for you placing your content everywhere.

If you would like to see what experienced people say regarding this myth, please read this thread.

Hope this clears some thing sup for ya. Again, welcome.

EzineArticles.com doesn't all duplicant articles. So you need to write new articles or you can hire a ghostwriter for you.

1- Post the original article on your
    own site.

2- Post a variation on EZA linking
    back to the originals.

3- Post more variations on other
    directories linking back to your
    main site.

Et voila... instant link juice and
page rank, not to mention traffic.

    Good luck

My understanding is that 'Duplicate Content' refers to the use of the same content 2 or more times on one site. I've never worried about submitting and using my articles multiple times unless a directory specifically calls for original content.

Consider the numerous "Make Money" opportunities that provide participants with ready-made sites - all of which are identical. Some of these businesses are successful and are obviously not getting slapped for duplicate content. I believe this is one of those IM myths that continues to pop up regularly.

        Hi all,

First off, I must start by saying thanks to everyone who's made a post here. I am in the same shoes as the person who started this thread. The only difference is that I decided to submit to EZA first before anything else. One big issue with EZA is that, being a new member, it'll take them forever to approve your articles.

Take for instance, 2 weeks ago i submitted 10 articles to them and up till this very moment, they've only approved 7. I had only one rejected for using affliate link but that's it. The thing with these guys is they slow you down.

I read the article (yesterday) about dup. content too & it said exactly what [peter gibson] said above and I think the writer was quoting a Google adress on the issue. So, I'd lean more to posting first to my blog then to EZA before the others.

So, [mkayius] to answer your question, basically, what happens is you get traffic faster submitting to all the major directories (including EZA) instead submitting to EZA first then waiting ages for them to get approved b4 submitting to the others. I've just learned this a little over 48 hours ago & I can notice the slight changes. It should pick up after i put more out there...

I intend to keep up with this thread - maybe learn a few more.

        Cheers guys!

Hello NannyD and Welcome New Warrior

Post to as many sites as you wish as long as it's original content. You do not need to do variations of anything. Whether you post to your site first or to ezinearticles is immaterial. Other useful article marketing sites are GoArticles and Amazines.

    Good luck.
