What is the best method to create ads or banners?

Hello I was curious how some of you marketers create ads or banners? and if you use pictures where do you get pictures for your banners?

I create them in Photoshop. There are many free alternatives to Photoshop such as Pixlr if you don't have it. I get the images I need from stock photo sites. Personally I like crestock. I am sure there are also free banner makers out there as well but I always feel limited with the options they give you.

Use photoshop or another photo editor software to build banner, also you can use some online software like banner.fotor.com

  The best way is with a photoshop type program. Banner and ad images are usually jps's or png's, so whatever program you use, you need to make sure it can save in those formats.

Gimp or Paint.net or Photoshop if you're half decent with graphics you can manage that or you can outsource ...

I personally use photoshop but there are a wide variety of free alternatives as mentioned above. as for the photos, you get them from stock photo websites like bigstock, istock, getty images, etc.

  If you are using one of those online banner creators, my advice is NOT to use one of the tools which brands your banners with "made by XXXX". Apart from looking like a cheapskate amateur: If you're displaying your banner a million or a billion times, why would you give 1/4 or 1/5 of the space on your banner away free to the banner designer?

Me too. I do so much more then just banners with it.

You can use Photoshop or one of the free alternatives like Gimp or Canva, or you can outsource cheaply at Fiverr.com.

Photoshop is not as expensive as it used to be and you can buy it from Adobe on a monthly payment plan now that's pretty reasonable.
