Hello IMers!!

I'm new to Affiliate marketing. & I'm at the stage where I'm looking into FINALLY offering products other than my own, to my list! I'm just wondering should you Request A review copy or Buy it?

What would you do? And Why?

Your list is the most important asset you can have.

Treat your list good and promote quality stuff that will help them in their business

When I first started I promoted anything... Now many years later

I will only promote what I use and like and trust.

Stuff that get's me to the next step.

If it's something that will help you and your list either ask for a copy or buy it...

I think that buying it is better buy all the upsells too so that way you can show your list you made the purchase too.

You should be fine requesting a review copy. Just find their contact info via the contact us or affiliate/jv page.

If they DON'T respond, I'd recommend just buying the product so you can do a solid review of it.

For all the ClickBank products I'm thinking of potentially promoting as an affiliate, after checking that their sales page is adequate for my minimum essential requirements as an affiliate, to be willing to send my traffic to it, I request review copies, and I do so like this.

I try to put myself in the position of the vendor, and ask myself something like "Is this an affiliate to whom I should send a free copy"? I need them to take me seriously. I don't think it's much more complicated than that, really? (There are some who simply never send out "review copies", and if they're going to be like that about it, I'll usually end up buying a copy through my own hoplink, and probably tell them openly that I've done so, too. It's allowed, after all.)

    • Normally I request a Review Copy, but when the Seller doesn't Respond and the Sales Page looks interesting to me I buy the Product. In the Beginning I took everything I could get but that was a huge Mistake

Review copy always. You will find out how fast the vendor responds and his attitude towards affiliates.

It depends on how much traffic I'm sending. Lot of traffic, they should give me a review; heck, that and a lot more. Not too long ago, sponsors would send you a Corvette.

Can we use our own hoplinks everywhere or only for WSOs? I didn't realize we could do that...

Not at all for WSO's: "hoplinks" are specific to ClickBank. (Excuse me if this is unhelpful - I'm also not quite sure what you're asking! ).

I've suddenly realised, a day later, what you meant here. Apologies for my unhelpful reply above.

You're asking about "buying something as a customer but through your own affiliate-link", aren't you?

The answer is that it depends on the terms of the service of the affiliate network, and they vary. It's usually not allowed, but on ClickBank it is allowed. I hope I've answered your question, now!

    I do both.

If I already know the person I'll simply ask.

On the other hand if I don't, I'll buy it, personally go through it and achieve some type of result with it.

I usually don't ask for review copies or buy the products and the reason is because for the past year or so I have had lots of vendors contacting me offering me a free copy and asking me if I will look it over and promote it. This is how I've been finding just about all of the products I have promoted to my list.

Mostly they contact me via Facebook. I think it started happening because my name was appearing on lots of top 10 boards for affiliate contests. I know that one of the ways vendors find good affiliates is to look at the names on affiliate contest leader boards and then contact that affiliate via Facebook and pitch their launch.

I have to say it feels good to have this happen. I always try to look at every product I'm given, but sometimes it's not possible.

Also, if you have a lot of affiliate sales or you have promoted successfully for that vendor in the past, you should never be afraid to ask for a review copy. Any smart vendor has no problem giving out a review copy to an affiliate he/she knows is going to make several sales for them.

If you are a newb and don't have hardly any affiliate sales, or like less than 100 sales on JVZoo or Warrior Plus, the chances of getting a review copy lessen. However, that doesn't mean you should not try!

Also, if you are an affiliate with a substantial amount of sales, you should always try and ask for a commission bump. Many vendors have no problem bumping a good affiliate up 10% or even 20%.

I buy the product. That way I can go through the exact experience the prospective buyer will go through. The sales experience is also part of the product. You can't get that experience requesting a review copy.
