To Newbies who want to make a Business with just using Adsense ...

Lately, I have seen a number of Threads where people ( mainly Newbies to be honest) are trying to start IM and base their Model solely on Adsense Advertsing.

Although Adsense is a great tool to add to your Revenue stream, it is by no means a tool which your whole business model should be based on.

Seven years ago when I first started in IM , there were Marketers who had been making full time income with MFA
( made for Adsense) blogs for a number of years.

However, with the Advent of Google Algo changes like Panda this is really not a legit route to pursue.

At least not as a full time endeavor anymore.

So Newbies you might just want to get that Notion out of your head that Adsense will be the ONLY model you use for starting an IM business

True enough, Robert. I have had some EMD's that competed quite successfully with very large, well established sites like WebMD. But those days are done for the most part.

Not that you can't make money with Adsense, I have friends that make a considerable amount, but their sites are older now and entrenched in the search engines.

Even though I have made a lot in the past with Adsense, I would not start out that way now.

    Robert,

I agree with you. IMO, Adsense is one of the most difficult ways to monetize a site if you're working toward full time income. It pays you pennies when someone clicks away from your site. Is that really how you want to make money? You work so hard to get traffic to your site . . .

I think Adsense is best for those who can drive mega targeted traffic to a web site . . . and that usually isn't a newbie.

So yea, if you want to make a few dollars online and fool yourself that you're earning real income, then go ahead and make a few pennies. But if you want to make serious income, full time income, there are many, many other ways to do it than with Adsense.

Agreed with this thread opinion/dominant viewpoint.

I'd add that being an IMer to make a difference by creating value and by freeing your audience is the simplest way to make money through a variety of channels. Start with freeing yourself and your audience. Make this your predominant intent. Then the quality of your offering will improve, as will the quality of your relationships AND the volume of your cash flow will increase too

Game. Set. Match. If each party to a commercial interaction does not walk away feeling that they have received more value than what they gave, the idea of a long term business with repeat customers waiting to spend money with you is dead.

I was just reading another thread in a different part of the forum where someone was saying they had been buying products on a regular basis from a list they had been on for 5 years and only stopped buying when the marketer stopped sending emails. And the person writing this was wishing there were more products and services to buy - that's the idea of passive income right there. Where the person doing the marketing has such an excellent reputation, that all they need to do is send an email, and people buy based on the strength of their reputation.

      Awesome.

Yeah all the people I know now still doing mainly adsense have well entrenched sites with lots of varied traffic. The last two years especially have seen dramatic changes in SEO related business models.

Unfortunately a lot of the overseas IMers whether its through language differences or different expectations for income still think its the same game but its not.

Simply put, you should never, EVER put all your eggs in one basket, especially when it relies on someone else's property (i.e. Google's Adsense or Facebook ads). Diversity is an absolute necessity when it comes to an actual online business. Problem is, most people don't have businesses. They have...hobbies, more or less, that might make them some money. If more people treated what they do as an actual business, I believe more would be successful.

I couldn't agree more Robert, however why we still see newbies trying to make business around adsense is just because it's "fairly" easy for start in the eyes of those newbies. Build a website or blog in particular topics they have interest to, throw in the adsense code, hope there will be clicks from visitors, it's sounds kind of ez.

AdSense is a GREAT way to start. It's where the majority do start. But as an end-all-be-all business model, it's very limited.

I'm not aware of a poll in the last year or two that backs that up. That might have been the case when Made for Adsense sites ruled but Google slapped that model (thin sites with ads) pretty badly and now I think more people start out with affiliate marketing of some kind (even Amazon) than adsense.

Review site have for many replaced MFAs
