New specialized domains

Since many of good .com domains have been scarffed up what are your thoughts about the new specialized domains like .guru .today, etc. Are they good to market a site?

I'm buying up certain key domain extensions. But it's a long-term plan. As of right now, the best extension to own is the .com; for SEO, for marketing, and also in terms of market value. This will change in the future, though. Short term, you're still best off with a .com.

Probably perfectly adequate but it doesn't really matter very much: what matters is that it wouldn't make a lot of sense to build a business on a domain-name of which the .com variant already belonged to someone else. In the short-term, and probably medium-term, that's all going to be downside.

No problem using any of them, as far as I can see, if you also own the .com version yourself (and simply redirect it to the "more brandable" one you're using for the site).

But to look at these things as a substitute for owning the .com strikes me as probably very short-sighted.

I don't doubt that there may be some long-term opportunities there, though.

Hi folks thanks for the replies. Sorry it took so long to get back. Alexa, I agree the .com is best but there are still some premium names that there is no way your gonna get in the .com. I own the domain "popculture.rocks" now way I am getting "popculture.com". It seems these things are getting more mainstream as I am starting to see some branding with the new names.
