I am not mentioning the domains of the spammer to avoid further probelms. I expect he is by now well known. Please read on.

I've been inundated with spam from a guy in Russia. Apparently he does not access my site (and that of thousands, as per many comments online) but uses the keys in Google Analytics to fake a visit that does not happen. He has dozens of domains and keeps changing them. My understanding was that the idea behind this was for those detecting the referrals to click on the lonk and end up in another page that he is trying to proomote, or for somehow toincrease his own Google ranking. I read also that he may be placing cookies on people's computers to get commissions from eventual affiliate sales.

Anyway, I am concerned that over the last few days, after blocking some access through the .htaccess file, and blocking referrals through GA. I started getting "visits" labelled as google/organicm with pages per session and session duration suggesting an actual visit. However, the logs in the server do not show any traffic from his town of Samara. Now, that does not make any sense as he is no longer tricking anyone into accessing some other site!

In fact, today, the strategy changed again as I am getting a new referral.

has anyone any idea what is goin on?
