What Does This Mean For Future WSO's?

Morning,

Recently I have tried to help a friend set up a premier PayPal account so that he can run his FIRST WSO. I have noticed that this option is NO LONGER available. Is it likely that he can not run a WSO unless he has an actual Business Type PayPal account?

Please weigh in.

Thanks,

Lance

It would perhaps be a little foolhardy to sell a WSO without having a business PayPal account, anyway? (Those are the people who complain about PayPal's "unexpected account freezing" and various other problems, aren't they?).

If you're actually doing business online, it surely makes sense to have a business account?

Of course, it isn't necessary to have a PayPal account at all, to promote a WSO successfully, as long as the customers have a way to pay by PayPal (that can be done, for example, by using a service like 2Checkout, instead: people can still buy easily by PayPal but the seller doesn't need it, to collect the funds from the processor).

But anyway, opening a PayPal business account is easy enough?

Many people run WSOs and sell products on JVZoo with a premier account. In order to get a business account I believe you need a business license or you need to start an LLC. There are literally thousands of Internet Marketers who do not have a business license and are operating with a premier account.

If you are going to run a WSO or do any kind of launch and you anticipate a lot of sales flooding into your PP account, it's wise to call them first and let them know to expect a sudden surge in sales. I think what causes account limitations are when a relatively "slow" account suddenly starts receiving many payments, and rightly so. If you look at it from their perspective you can see how that looks shady.

I don't believe you can start with a premier account on PP. I think you need to open a personal account first, and then you will need to verify address, bank account, and at least one credit card before you will be able to upgrade to Premier.

Don't quote me on that 100%. I'm not entirely sure, but I think the ability to upgrade from personal to business and business to premier will only become available once you have verified your identity to their requirements.

The premier account was originally for people doing business under their own name and not a DBA. That was the only difference.

If your business bank account used your name you selected a premier account. If it had a business DBA name, you selected a business account.

Does your friend have a regular PayPal account already? If so, the option to upgrade the account to a premier/business account should be in their control panel.

If they are in the US, you don't need a DBA. You can run your business as a sole proprietorship under your own name: If I am operating a sole proprietorship under my personal name, do I need to file a DBA? - DBA FAQ - LegalZoom

All you really need is a social security number to open up a PayPal business account along with a checking account/credit card to lift the limits.

You NEED a business paypal account or they will freeze your account. Especially if you plan to bring in 10k+ in sales a month. Its easy to create one too.
